Kimberly Ann Torres (1953-2018)

Kimberly Ann Torres, of Fillmore, California, passed away at her home on July 26, 2018 at the age of 65. Kim’s journey began in Oxnard, California on July 19, 1953, the oldest child of David Wright and Joan Temple. Kim was a 1971 graduate of Fillmore High School and spent most of her life in or near the Fillmore area. Kim’s greatest enjoyment came from her kids, Megan and Josh, and her grandkids. She had an unwavering love for her family. Kim will be fondly remembered for her work ethic, love of animals and her forgiving heart. Kim is survived by her daughter, Megan Lee; grandchildren, Lynelle Lee, Logan Lee, Brianna Reed, Parker Reed; sisters, Denise Core, Piper McGeehan; brother, David Wright; step-parents, Russ Temple and Shirley Williams. Kim was preceded in death by her son, Joshua Reed, and both of her parents, David Wright and Joan Temple. Kim’s family appreciates the support and kindness she was afforded by many during her final months. In accordance with Kim’s wishes there will be no service. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice in Kim’s honor.

Evelyn LaVerne Foster Moser (1937-2018)

Evelyn LaVerne Foster Moser, 80, of Pocahontas, Arkansas, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at the Five Rivers Medical Center in Pocahontas. Evelyn was born on Friday, November 5, 1937, in Swifton, Arkansas to Charles T. Foster and Evah E. Henderson Foster.
Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents Charles T. Foster and Evah E. Henderson Foster, husband Jake A Moser, son Charles Moser, brother Talmadge Foster, sister Charlotte Erickson.
Survivors include children Vickie J (Debbie Pocwierz) Bennett of California, Kenneth A. Moser of Arkansas and Evelyn L. Moser of Arkansas, sister Freddie D. Gregory of Arkansas; grandchildren Amanda D. (Billy) Warren, Katelyn C. (Dallas) Allen, Jacob W. Moser, Jillian A. Moser, Henry D. (Tiffany Mares) Bennett III, Kaytlin T. (Shaun) Holton, Mallissa M. (Johnny) Long, Jeremy J. (Jessica) Moser, Evelyn L Moser II, David G. Turk Jr. and Stephanie Pocwierz; great grandchildren Justin, Landyn Bentlee, Kahrlee, Madison, Lillyann, Kali, Dallas Jr., Eva, Aiden, Gavin, and Kale; many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones, special canine friend Bella.
Evelyn was a wonderful Nonnie to many, many souls throughout her lifetime.

Maria Lupe Lupercio Casillas (1934-2018)

Guadalupe nació un 18 de Diciembre de 1934 en Guadalajara, México. Ella falleció tranquilamente el día 21 de Julio de 2018 en su hogar rodeada de sus seres queridos a la edad de 83 años. A Guadalupe le gustaba cocinar, ir de compras y disfrutaba pasar el tiempo con su familia y cuidar de sus nietos y bisnietos. Se reunirá con sus hijos Rúben Casillas, María Casillas y su nieto Mario Arias.

Gaspar “Jess” Barragan (1939-2018)

Gaspar “Jess” Barragan, 79, passed into the arms of his beloved Savior on Saturday, July 14, 2018. In addition to his parents, Gaspar was preceded in death by his brother Lee Barragan and son Manuel Barragan. Gaspar will forever be remembered by his wife Anne Barragan, and his loving children Gwynne Weinreb, Yvette Miller, Traci (Brandon) Chewning, Jeffrey Barragan, (Fiance Justine Rosales) and Heather Barragan. Gaspar is the brother of Rachel Brown, Armida Martin, Diane Choubin, Ben Barragan, and Steve Barragan. He will greatly be missed by his grandchildren Frank, Erik, Sam, Ashley, Nichole, Alex, James Jr, Annalise, Leah, Brandon Jr, Jace, baby boy Barragan, and his 8 great-grandchildren.
In honor of Gaspar, a memorial service will be held at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary on July 28, 2018 at 11am.

Jerry Michael Botts (1938-2018)

Jerry Michael Botts, was born September 18, 1938 to Mardenis and Iris Botts in Santa Paula, CA.
After graduating high school in 1956, he joined the Army reserves. He went on afterwards to roofing homes for 30 years. He owned Thomas Roofing Service in Fillmore, CA for 17 years. On a rainy March 16th, 1963, Jerry married Paula Miller, in Ventura, CA. Jerry and Paul have two sons, Michael and John and 6 grandchildren. Jerry is survived by his wife Paula, of 55 years, his sons, his sisters Velda and Heidi and brother Chris.
In 1989, after his retirement from his roofing business, Jerry went into the ministry preaching the Gospels. His ministry led him to Burbank CA, Taft CA, and Helena Montana along with missionary work around the globe including Africa. Jerry and Paula returned to California in 2012 and made their home in Somis, CA. Jerry went home to his Father on June 13th, 2018, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Jerry led countless people to the Lord, teaching the Gospel and demonstrating what Christ called him to be, “a fisher of men”. He influenced many lives and will be missed by all that knew him. His life was celebrated in Santa Paula, CA on June 23rd with family and friends at the Church of Christ.

Henry Edward Krieger Jr. (1926-2018)

Henry Edward Krieger (Jr), long time resident of Fillmore, California for 80 years, recently of Santa Paula, passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 25, 2018. Jr. was surrounded and comforted by family members and friends at the time of his passing, Henry was 91 years old. Jr. was born in Ada, Oklahoma, on July 18, 1926. He was one of six children, of Auby S. Keller and Henry Edward Krieger Sr.

Henry Krieger Jr. was married to Dorothy Fern Mitchell, on November 26, 1945. They had two children. Henry was a Veteran of World War 2, for which he served from the age of seventeen, and turned nineteen, on his boat ride home from Europe. Henry was a member of the 44th Infantry Division, United States Army. Henry went on to work in the Oil Fields located around Ventura County and other various locations throughout Southern California.

Henry Krieger was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Mitchell, parents: Auby and Henry Krieger, Brother A.J. Krieger, and Sisters, Geneva Krieger, Winona Krieger, and Lohoma June Krieger.

Henry Krieger Jr. is survived by his Sister, Nola Ann Wilson, Sunland CA; his two children; Cecil Edward Krieger of Bakersfield, CA; and Junne (Jerry) Byrum of Santa Paula, CA; Four grandchildren; Jerry C Byrum Jr, Santa Paula, CA, Cecil Edward Krieger, Taft, CA, Christine Lynn Lopez, Bakersfield, CA, and Joseph Paul Byrum, Santa Paula, CA; thirteen Great Grandchildren; Dylan Cole Byrum, Matthew Jacob Krieger, Katelynn Nicole Byrum, Zachary John Kreiger, Hailey Nicole Lopez, Anthony Jaiden Byrum, Brenden John Krieger, William Edward Krieger, Malia Rose Lopez, Salena Marie Ayala, Joseph David Leon, and Jacob David Leon.

Rojelio Valencia Avila (1931-2018)

Rojelio Valencia Avila also referred to as ‘Roy / Chono’ 87 years old of Fillmore, Ca. was called home on Monday, June 11th, 2018.
Roy was a very loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle, Cousin and Friend to many.
Roy was born on March 11th, 1931, in Ventura, Ca. He was the 3rd of 6 siblings who were raised in Ventura County.
Roy met Rita Hernandez in Fillmore in 1954 and shortly thereafter they married. Roy settled with Rita in Fillmore and began a family of 6 girls known as the “Avila Girls”.
He was preceded in death by his grandson Joselito Lopez.
Roy is survived by his wife Rita: Daughters Rosa (Gino) Garcia, Antonia (Jose) Lopez, Karin (Joe) Diaz, Esmeralda Avila, Brenda (Gary) Toyooka and Jessica (Jaime) Esquivel. He leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.
He began his career establishing one of the first gardening services in Fillmore known as “J Roy’s Gardening Service”.
He spent his years living life to the fullest. One of his greatest talents and passions in addition to being a successful landscaper he was also a self-taught musician.
Roy was big on creating new family traditions for all the generations to embrace; these included family camping trips to Lake Tahoe and various regular outings. Family get-togethers at home were always one of his favorites, especially when he would bring out one of his many guitars and play some of his favorite songs for the family.
Roy came from a very humble beginning and accomplished so much within his lifetime. He taught his family that success was defined by how hard you worked and put your mind towards any goal and that having a degree did not always define your success. He took pride in leading by example and giving his family constructive loving feedback to accomplish whatever they had in mind.
God looked around his garden and found an empty space then he looked down upon your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest, I know for a fact God’s garden is beautiful because he only takes the best.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Faith Community Church 355 D Street in Fillmore. The recitation of the Rosary will follow at 7:45pm at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1048 E. Ventura Street in Fillmore. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 10:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1048 W. Ventura Street in Fillmore. Burial to follow at Bardsdale Cemetery, 1698 So. Sespe Street in Fillmore, Ca.

John Albert Brothers (1924-2018)

John was born in Muncie, Indiana. He spent his first years on a small family farm, a place he remembered fondly long after. When the family lost the farm in the Depression, his mother had to support four children through diverse odd jobs in town; her resourcefulness, hard work, and good humor provided the fundamental model for John's life.
John enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, after high school, serving in the Philippines. The Navy indirectly shaped his later life in music and art: he sang in the Blue Jacket Choir at Great Lakes Training Camp and whiled away long duty hours as a pharmacist's mate drawing sketches in the official log book. His later decision to move to California may have stemmed from naval training in San Bernardino, where he was amazed to smell orange blossoms in winter.
After discharge, John majored in art and music at Ball State Teacher's College, in Indiana. Here he met fellow music major Myrtle Minneman, to whom he would be married for nearly 65 years. From Ball State, John took a job teaching high-school band in Alto, Texas, in 1951. Two years later, he moved to the low desert of California to teach band and chorus at Calipatria High School. By 1956, the family had added four sons. Facing this economic imperative, John moved to a better-paying job in Fillmore, once again among orange blossoms. At Fillmore High he switched to art, in effect becoming a one-man art department. This meant not only teaching but providing after-hours help for school plays, Christmas pageants, and proms.
Although both worked full time, John and Myrt developed an unusually rich family life. John led the Bardsdale Methodist Church choir for several decades—a choir noted for his imaginative selection of choral pieces. John formed a faculty barbershop octet, and he and Myrt gave two-piano concerts for local fund-raising efforts. Meanwhile, John continually painted, sketched, and sculpted for family and friends. Around Christmas and Easter, he created gifts for one and all, including Easter eggs painstakingly painted in miniature. In summer, the whole family always spent two weeks backpacking in the High Sierra. Here there was plenty of time to hike, read, sketch, and stalk the wily golden trout.
John and Myrt were always generous toward others, but they lived within their means, so that John was able to retire several years early. He launched an array of art and music projects: singing in the county master chorale, painting a mural for the Fillmore Museum, sketching a series of postcards for Rancho Camulos, acting in local plays, and traveling to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and elsewhere.
John spent the last 15 years of his life battling muscular discoordination and speech impairment from a cerebral hemorrhage. While these limited him physically, they did not much dampen his spirits; he continued to view life around him with interest and a characteristically sardonic sense of humor until his last days.
John's wife Myrt passed away on April 23, 2013; he is survived by their four sons and families, including nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Bardsdale Methodist Church, 1498 Bardsdale Ave., at 10:00 a.m., July 7.

Terry Ray McGuire (1943-2018)

Terry Ray McGuire, born on July 24, 1943 in Fillmore, California, to Viola Lemons and Ray McGuire, passed away at age 74 on May 23, 2018 in Ventura, California. He graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in Social Sciences. Terry served in the United States Army and attended Officer Candidate School in Fort Lee, Virginia. As a 2nd Lieutenant he was assigned to Fort Riley, Kansas in the Quarter Master Corp, where he met United States Army officer Lieutenant Janice June Roth. They would later be married in Redlands, CA, and would eventually settle in Ventura, CA. He worked in the Liquor & Wine Industry as the Owner of Mandell's Liquor and Wine Shop for 35 years. Terry was married to and survived by Janice June McGuire. He is also survived by his son, Kevin Roth McGuire and wife Dr. Heather Renee McGuire D.P.M.; grandchildren, Addison Renee McGuire and Ewan Matthew McGuire; as well as brother Jim McGuire and wife Charlene McGuire; brother in law James Roth and wife Sharleen Roth. He was a member of Downtown Lions Club of Ventura for over 40 years. Donations are welcome and can be made in Terry's name to the Fillmore High School Alumni Association or the Ventura Missionary Church missions. Friends and family can pay their respects at a memorial service at Ventura Missionary Church on Saturday, June 16th at 11:30 a.m. at 500 High Point Drive, Ventura, California, with an off-site reception to follow.

Lanie T. Doll (1922-2018)

Lanie T. Doll 95, of Fillmore passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018, peacefully at home with her family by her side.
Lanie was born August 11, 1922 in Leipzig, Germany. She was a Ventura County resident for 42 years.
Lanie was a talented painter; she mastered both water color and oil media. She received awards for her portraits and landscapes. She traveled extensively with her husband John and served as his interpreter for him on trips to Europe as she spoke fluent German. Lanie and John were married for 65 years until Johns’ passing in 2006.
She was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Paula wolf.
Lanie is survived by her son Cary (wife Patti) and daughter Colleen Doll-Hornbaker (husband Dave), grandchild Jon Doll (wife Bethany), great grandchildren Samantha Dale, Alexandria Dale, Everly Doll and Ella Doll.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7, at Bardsdale Cemetery. A Memorial Service to follow at the Bardsdale Methodist Church, 1498 Bardsdale Ave, Bardsdale.

Onesimo “Ony” Cervantez (1934-2018)

Onesimo “Ony” Cervantez was born February 16, 1934 and was taken from his loving family June 3, 2018. He was 84 years young. He was born and lived his entire life in Fillmore. He graduated from Fillmore High School, Class of 1954. He was inducted into the U.S. Army to serve his country in the Korean War on March 1955, and was a Field Communications Crewman. He was honorably discharge in 1957.
Ony retired from General Motors after 35 years of service as a repairman. His main hobbies were hunting and fishing with his son, Raymond, and his brothers, nephews and good friends. Those trips will never be forgotten.
Ony is preceded in death by his parents, Gumesindo and Maria R. Cervantez Zuno and sister Lupe Rizo and sister-in-law Gloria Cervantez. Ony is survived by his two sons: Raymond (Nancy) of Fillmore, and Robert of Sherman oaks: step-father, Salvador (Chuy) Zuno, brothers: Joe (Marlene), Pete (Emily), Tony (Rosie), Tory Frank and sister Georgia (Joe Cabral) all of Fillmore. Grandchildren, Kelly (Dori) Brown, Casey (Anne) Brown and 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at Bardsdale Cemetery, Monday, June 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.

Eugene L. Warring (1925-2018)

Eugene “Gene" Warring, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21, 2018, in Mariposa, CA.
Gene was born on June 21, 1925, at his family home at Buckhorn Ranch, located in the Santa Clara Valley near Fillmore, CA. His great-grandfather, Benjamin Warring, settled in this area and developed several acres of citrus in 1861. Gene was born to Lester and Bessie Warring and was the youngest of five children. His brothers Jack, Leland, Bill and his sister Anita preceded him in death.
At 17, Gene volunteered to serve in the U.S. Navy. He served from 1943 to 1945 aboard the USS Chincoteague as a Radioman and received a Purple Heart. The most memorable event in Gene’s experience during the War was witnessing the raising of the United States Flag on Iwo Jima.
After returning from the war in the Pacific, he married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Mauck. He always said he wanted to marry Gloria from the first time he saw her at a Fillmore High School dance. They were married in Las Vegas, NV on July 7, 1945. Together they made their home in Fillmore and had four children, Christopher, Kathleen, Crystal, and Philip. Gene worked for the local Union Oil Distributorship for several years and later was offered an opportunity to work for the family-owned business, The Warring Brothers Citrus Ranch. He moved his family into his childhood home at Buckhorn Ranch where they lived for 7 years. In 1965, he and Gloria became owners of the 76 Union Oil Distributorship in Fillmore and worked together until their retirement several years later. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife in their RV taking in the beautiful country that he loved. These were always his favorite memories and stories to share.
Gene was a natural athlete. He enjoyed playing golf and swimming, but his passion was pitching a “mean” softball! He loved the game, but especially the camaraderie it brought. He was always very humble and modest about his pitching abilities, but he was very well known throughout Southern California for his “fastball." His love for the game continued as he coached his son in Little League for several years. He was also known for his sense of humor and love of life. His laugh was always very contagious. One that, when you heard him laughing, you just couldn’t help but laugh along with him.
Gene is survived by his wife Gloria of 73 years; his three children, daughter Kathleen (Vernon) Crofford of Mariposa, daughter Crystal (Gary) Cox of Mariposa, son Philip (Jessica) Warring of Milbrae; seven grandchildren, Leah (Ron) Zawadzki, Kelly (Ryan) Rettig, Summer (Justin) Gish, John (Gianna) Cox, Seth (Leanna) Cox, Alexander Warring and Sam Warring; and nine great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Ben, Jack, Joe, Kate, Violet, Leo, Micah, and Ezra; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives who loved him dearly.
Gene loved people and his family. He will be greatly missed by all those blessed to have had him in their lives.

Candy Gurrola (1930-2018)

Candy Gurrola was born on February 2, 1930 in La Verne, CA. Candy was a resident of Fillmore for 30 years before moving to Anaheim, CA, where she passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018. She was a medical assistant for 30 + years. She loved giving gifts and sending all occasion cards to all her family and friends.
Candy is preceded in death by parents Panfilo & Juana De Haro Gurrola, sisters Katie Zavala, Lucy Munoz, Pauline Ruiz, brothers John, Gregg & Dolores (twins) and Julio Gurrola.
She is survived by her brothers Camilo Gurrola, Richard Gurrola and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Services for Candy will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 starting with a Rosary at 9:30am at St. Francis of Assisi Church 1048 Ventura St., Fillmore, CA. Ruth Leah Gunderson (1928-2018)

Ruth Leah Gunderson of Fillmore, CA was taken by the loving arms of God through Heaven’s Gates on May 13, 2018. Born in a small home nestled by the tracks of the Norfolk and Western Railroad in Blue Ridge, Virginia Ruth’s life journey began on August 9, 1928. Raised by a mother widowed soon after her birth and being the youngest of 13 children, eight brothers and four sisters, from the very beginning Missy Ruth’s incredible journey began surrounded by love and care. From this she developed her invincible philosophy that she would hug, smile and share love with everyone she met.
After graduating from Piedmont College in Winston Salem, North Carolina she attended and graduated from City Memorial Hospital Nursing School in Winston Salem as well. After graduation Ruth’s independent spirit and encouragement from Sister Betty, gave her no hesitation to grab her newly acquired cap, sit it beside her in her car and head across the country to California.
Once in California Ruth realized she was where she was truly meant to be and started her new life at South Bay Hospital in Redondo Beach. Ruth found her calling as an ER nurse at Santa Paula Hospital after relocating to Fillmore in 1971. Later, Ruth left Santa Paula Hospital and went to work for a plastic surgeon in Oxnard. Ruth retired from nursing in the late nineties but never formally retired from working.
Ruth spent Sundays at her second home in Fillmore ~ Faith Community Church. Fellow parishioners could count on Ruth to greet them at the door with hugs and kisses, coordinate church events, mail out the weekly newsletters, help manage the church prayers, anything the church might need Ruth was eager and more than willing to do.
Ruth and her husband Don dedicated their lives’ work to the projects of the Fillmore Rotary. One of Ruth and Don’s favorite Rotary projects is the annual elementary school dictionary handout. Ruth was bestowed with the only known Rotary title of District Hugger. This honorable position was recognized at many West Coast meetings and by the International President ~~ all of course resulting in huge hugs.
Ruth loved her travels with her husband Don. Together, they took twenty three cruises that took them to many of the countries Don had been to during his long career with the U.S. Navy. These trips covered Europe and South America including places like Machu Picchu, Peru and multiple Panama Canal crossings.
When asked about the best gift her journey gave her the answer was always being a mother to her two children and then being a Grandmother to her grandchildren. Mama Ruth loved having her family by her side. She loved decorating for the holidays, cooking big meals, telling stories but most of all she enjoyed her family just being together.
In addition to a legacy of love, kindness and forever smiles Mama Ruthie will always be in the hearts, thoughts and prayers of her family ~~ Husband Don Gunderson of Fillmore, Son Scott Sanders and his wife JoAnn of Fillmore, Daughter Mindy Welch, her Husband Bill, Granddaughter Shelby and Grandson Koby of Ojai, Don's Daughters Jennifer Pimentel of Fillmore and Victoria Bogner, her Husband Jim and Grandsons JJ and Joshua of Carmel, Indiana.
Ruth’s loving and caring spirit will always be remembered and live on by the congregation of the Faith Community Church, and all of the people she touched and held in the City of Fillmore.

With her family by her side Mama Ruthie will have her final private graduation at the Bardsdale Cemetery where she will forever keep a special watch over her beloved Fillmore families.
As requested, Ruth’s family is privileged to extend hugs and kisses to all of her Doctors, their Staffs, the Palms Assisted Living in Ventura, Assisted Home Health Hospice and Caregivers, Dignity Memorial of Fillmore, members of the Fillmore Rotary, her Neighbors and all of the people of Fillmore who were along for her journey – there will never be enough thank yous for all you’ve done.

Abraham Diaz Carreño (2018)

Abraham migrated from Oaxaca, Mexico in 1944 where he went to Idaho until 1945 and came to California working in various types of ranch work.
In 1948 he started working for a grocery store in Santa Paula, Ca known as Siquideo’s Market for several years; from there he went to work for Chino’s Market in Santa Paula, Ca until August 1970. He opened his own business in Fillmore, Ca known as Abe’s Hi-Way Market. Abraham was always willing to help the citizens of Fillmore in any way he could, many local families went to his store for groceries. In 1995 he closed his store in Fillmore. Abraham served as President of the Rotary Club in Fillmore; he was a very well-liked man.
After he retired, he returned to his beloved home in Oaxaca, Mexico. Eventually he moved back with his family here in Fillmore and here he stayed until he passed away on May 4, 2018.
He will be deeply missed by all. May he Rest in Peace.
Services for Abraham will take place on Thursday, May 24, 2018, with Visitation at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 600 N Central Ave, Fillmore at 4:00pm; a Rosary will take place at 7:00pm. Followed by a Mass on Friday, May 25, 2018 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at 10:00am followed by a Graveside at Bardsdale Cemetery 1698 S Sespe Rd, Fillmore.

Carlos P. Gutierrez (1927-2018)

Carlos P. Gutierrez was born on September 17, 1927 in Coachella, CA.
He passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at the age of 90 a resident of Fillmore and Ventura County resident for over 40 years.
Carlos entered the United States Marine Corp on September 24, 1945 at the age of 18. As a radio operator aboard C130’s he delivered troops and supplies during WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam. During this time he logged thousands of air miles around the world, received numerous service awards and made lifelong friends along the way. One of proudest moments was when he received the Commanding Officers “Leatherneck Marksmanship Award” in 1962. He was honorably discharged in 1965. Retired from the USMC after 20 as a radio operator flying C130’s around the world serving our country he also retired as an electronic engineer from Lockheed Martin. His hobbies were Marine Corps history, aviation, avid reader, sports fan and Papa to a large family.
Carlos is preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and sister and his son-in-law.
Carlos is survived by his wife Eneida Gutierrez, daughter Shelly Rosenblad of Fillmore, CA, son Mike Gutierrez (spouse Stella) of Lancaster, CA, daughter Cindy Zanotti (spouse Tom) of Eagle Point, OR,
son Greg Gutierrez of Palmdale, CA, son Steve Gutierrez (spouse Barb) of Lancaster, CA,
15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
A rosary for will be held Friday, May 18, 2018; 9:30am at St Francis of Assisi Church 1048 Ventura St., Fillmore CA,
Funeral mass will be held Friday, May 18, 2018; 10am at St. Francis of Assisi Church with a reception to follow also at St. Francis of Assisi Church.

Mike Arcelio Martinez Mulberry (1939-2018)

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Mike Arcelio Martinez Mulberry. He passed away on April 29, 2018 peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 78.
Mike was born on September 19, 1939 in Denver, Colorado. Shortly after he was born he moved to Gallup, New Mexico to live with his maternal grandmother and his 11 aunts and uncles who were more like his brothers and sisters. At the age of 12 he went to live with his Mother and Stepfather in East Los Angeles, California.
Mike graduated from Roosevelt High School in Boyle Heights in 1958 and joined the United States Air Force immediately after. Mike served in the Air Force from 1958 to 1961 and spent 2 years overseas in Spain. He was honorably discharged.
In 1964 Mike met the love of his life, Amelia Cardona and they married in 1966. Mike and Amelia raised 3 daughters and spent 52 years of marriage together. Mike was the true definition of a family man. He loved his family more than anything and always put them first. While raising a family and working full-time at various jobs through the Teamsters Union, Mike continued his education and graduated from East Los Angeles College in 1973 with an Associates in Arts. Afterward he attended the University of Southern California and graduated in 1976 with a Bachelors of Science in Public Administration. Mike went on to work for the State of California at the EDD office for 30 years.
Mike was a devoted Catholic, Husband and Father. He and Amelia attended Mass every weekend. They loved attending Dodger games and watching all the games on TV and they took as many trips to Las Vegas as they could. Mike was a huge boxing fan and always looked forward to watching the big fights with his family.
There are not enough words to describe the type of man Mike was. No one ever had a bad thing to say about him. He was incredibly smart, funny, hardworking, honest and always gave the best advice. Mike’s family and friends enjoyed having conversations with him and Mike always taught them a thing or two. Mike’s pride and joy were his daughters and grandchildren. He adored them more than anything and loved them unconditionally no matter how much trouble they got into at times. Mike was known by many, loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Mike is survived by his wife Amelia; daughters, Monica (John) Arias, Gloria Mulberry and Linda (Jeff) Savard; grandchildren Michael, Vanessa, Chelsea, Hailey, Justine, Luke and Jake; sister Lucy Tellez; brother Raymond “Monchie” Tellez Jr.; aunts, uncles and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mike is preceded in death by his Stepfather, Raymond Tellez Sr., his Mother, Charlotte Martinez Tellez and Grandmother Bonnie Montez Martinez.
The recitation of the rosary will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 at 9:30am. At St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1048 E. Ventura Street in Fillmore, Ca. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am. Burial to follow at Bardsdale Cemetery 1698 So. Sespe Street in Fillmore, Ca.

Luis Villasenor “Big Lou Son Of Herk” (1947-2018)

Devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that the family of Luis Villasenor announces his passing on Saturday, May 5th, 2018 after a sudden and unexpected death.
Luis was born October 1, 1947 in Santa Paula, CA. He was the son of Herculano & Enriqueta Villasenor. He grew up in FILLMORE, CA were he resided until his time of death. Luis loved FILLMORE, he often referred to it as “God’s Country”. He attended and graduated from Chaminade High School. He was drafted into the Vietnam War in 1967 where he served for 2 years in the army. Upon returning from the war he met and married his best friend and the love of his life Pauline Tafoya Villasenor. They were married for 46 years. During those 46 years they were blessed with 4 beautiful children. Samantha, Louie Jr., Patrick, & Stacey. Luis was employed by the City of FILLMORE Public works where he worked for 34 years, and eventually retired in 2009.
After his retirement with plenty of time on his hands, he threw himself into his ministry. He enjoyed talking to people about Jehovah God and all of the blessing that the Bible foretells. All who knew him, knew what an avid sport fan he was. Luis loved the Rams, San Francisco Giants and Lakers. He knew all the stats and was always up to date on the latest trades and signing. Luis loved to watch his old westerns and classic movies. He enjoyed life to the fullest, but was always up for a good nap. Above all Luis loved to spend time with his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He attended all dance recitals, band performance, school functions and football games. Luis loved to talk to the kids in his infamous “Donald Duck Voice”. He loved to tease them and get them in trouble. He loved spoiling and spending time with them, going to the movies and taking turns picking out where to eat for dinner. He enjoyed going to the Rams games with his brother sons and grandsons.
Any time he was with his family and friends he would have a huge smile on his faces a smile that will be deeply missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents Herculano and Enriqueta Villasenor and nephew Alex Villasenor. He is survived by His wife Pauline Tafoya Villasenor, and daughter Samantha ( Son in Law Stephen ) Dick, Son Louie Jr ( Daughter in Law Ines ) Villasenor, Son Patrick ( Daughter in Law Aime ) Villasenor, Daughter Stacey ( Son in Law Ivan ) Richey. Brother David ( Sister in Law Sharon ) Villasenor, Brother Rick ( Sister in Law Christine ) Villasenor, Brother Victor Villasenor, Sister Rebecca ( Brother in Law Alex ) Zuarte, Sister Virginia ( Brother in Law ) Rick Wilson, Brother Andy ( Sister in Law )Joann Villasenor, Sister Judith ( Brother in Law ) Alfonso, Brother Albert ( Sister in Law ) Christina Villasenor. Maria Guadalupe Sierra Rodriguez (1936-2018)

It’s with great sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend Maria Guadalupe Sierra Rodriguez.
Maria was born on August 1, 1936 in Aquiles Serdan (Santiaguillo), Municipio de Zamora, Michoacan. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the age of 81.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Rogelio Sierra Barbosa and grandson Dennis Lopez.
She is survived by her children: Modesto Sierra (Lisa), Rogelio Sierra (Suzie), Vivian Sierra (Nellie) and her grandchildren Rogelio Sierra Jr. Vanessa Sierra, David Sierra, Joseph Sierra, Gabriel Sierra, Cirena Medrano and many nieces and nephews and friends that will miss her dearly.

Barbara Ellsworth Bates (1921-2018)

It is with great sadness that the family of Barbara Bates announces her passing on Friday, April 13, 2018, after a brief illness. Barbara Lee Ellsworth was born in Fillmore March 9, 1921, the daughter of Howard Ellsworth and Gladys Clapperton. She grew up playing in the orchards and helping in the family’s hardware store. She graduated from Fillmore High in 1938 where she was a gold merit scholarship, cheerleader, and active in many organizations. One of her many accomplishments was 250 words per minute shorthand (which continued to stump her family when reading her recipes).
She attended Pomona College and graduated from Armstrong Business College and began teaching at McCleod High School. She married Kenneth Bates in 1943, and they eventually settled in Bakersfield in 1946 where Ken established his law practice.
Barbara served on numerous organizations, including Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, First Presbyterian and Northminster Presbyterian churches and AAUW. She was a Cub Scout, Bluebird and Brownie Leader. She dedicated more than 25 years to cooking at Guild House. She was active at Bakersfield Country Club as well as at home with family, cooking, sewing, knitting, and reading.
Her diverse passions included bridge and golf, roses and music boxes, travel and square dancing, and Fillmore High School reunions. She enjoyed multiple bridge clubs up until her eyesight began to fail. She loved the beach and spent many vacations at the Rincon. She and Ken traveled, first on international golf trips, followed by cruises, and later exploring the US in their RV. She had amazing skills ranging from the hula and ukulele learned in college to mandarin cooking, sewing design, and painting taken up later in her life.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kenneth Bates of Colorado Springs, Susan Bates Harbuck of Sandpoint Idaho, and Patricia Bates of Sheridan, MT as well as her dutch daughter Ria Maaskant of Gahanna, Ohio. She is also survived by five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ken Bates, daughter Diane Murdock, and brother Jack Ellsworth.
Cremation has taken place and Barbara will be buried in Bardsdale Cemetery.
