On Wednesday, July 12, the Fillmore Flashes hosted a summer clinic for the Fillmore Raiders Youth Football Program. He took 1st Place finish with a personal best throw of 38"6.25. Ralphy will travel to Eugene, Oregon to compete in the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championship on July 24th to 30th.

Fillmore senior Anahi Arreola earned the VC Star’s All County Softball Player of the Year Award. The Oaks Christian Senior finished the season leading the state with 20 homeruns. Her batting average for the season was .515, with 60 RBI’s and 36 runs scored out of 34 games. She finished her 4-year high school career with a .485 batting average, brought in 155 RBIs, and hit 45 homeruns. Anahi said, after taking a campus tour, she is looking to attending Cal State University Monterey Bay on scholarship. On the weekend of June 24-25, 2023 the California United Fillmore Soccer 2008 Boys team, competed in the Come Up For Air Tournament, in South Lake Tahoe. The boys were determined and wanted to make the 7-hour trip, despite only having thirteen players. They played a total of four games in high altitude, and fluctuating weather conditions, ranging from early 8:00 am, 40-degree games, to afternoon 1:00 pm, 75-degree games, to evening 4:00 pm, 60-degree games, and went undefeated the entire weekend to come home with a Championship title in the boys 2008 division. Goalies Julian Medina and Jose Zaragoza had an entire tournament shutout. This group of boys traveled last year to compete in the same tournament and came up short. Way to come back and put our little city of Fillmore on the map; Congratulations to the boys and coaches!

Four California United Fillmore Club Soccer teams competed in the California Cup - Premier Memorial Day Tournament at the Lancaster National Soccer Center. Only one team came home with hardware and the Championship title—the Girls 2013 Division! The 2013G went undefeated with four victories, and goalie Aalyiah Cervantez knocking out an entire tournament shutout. This young group of talent has traveled to compete in Tahoe, Phoenix, won the Oaks FC Summer Cup Tournament, in Conejo Valley last August, and the TFC League Cup Tournament in Santa Maria in March. In winning the California Cup Championship titled, they have now earned their spot to compete in either the Tampa Bay Cup in Florida on Labor Day weekend, or the Super Cup in Phoenix, Arizona, on Thanksgiving weekend. Below are the scores for those games this past weekend:

May 2, 2023 – Fillmore vs. St. Monica Academy - CIF Wildcard #1, Location: Fillmore High School; Fillmore 6 - St. Monica Academy 0.

Highlights: Ivan Becerra went 2-3 with a run scored, an RBI, and a stolen base. Santi Avila went 1-4 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Anthony Chessani went 1-3 with a triple and a run scored.

May 3, 2023 – Fillmore vs. Gladstone - CIF Wildcard #2, Location: Gladstone High School; Fillmore 5 - Gladstone 2.
Highlights: Santi Avila pitched 4.2 innings with 5 K’s, 2 walks, only 1 hit, and 0 runs. He also went 1-3 with a double, a walk, and an RBI. Ivan Becerra went 2-3 with 2 runs scored and a HBP.

May 4, 2023 - Fillmore vs. St. Genevieve - CIF First Round, Location: Fillmore High School; Fillmore 10 - St. Genevieve 2.
Highlights: Game went into extra innings with Fillmore winning in the 8th. Jathan Magaña got the win, pitching 7 innings with 6 K’s, 3 hits, 2 walks, and 2 runs. He also went 1-3 with a double, a walk, a HBP, 2 runs scored, and an RBI. Jacob Muñoz went 1-3 with 2 RBIs, a sacrifice bunt, and a stolen base.

According to maxpreps.com, the Flashes defeated Animo Leadership with a final score of 10 – 0. Heritage Valley Blazers hosted the JV Track & Field Finals on April 29, 2023. Teams who participated were Gold Coast Spartans, Ojai Roadrunners, Ventura Tigres and Heritage Valley Blazers. HVB Coach Chloe Smith kicked off the meet by singing the national anthem.

The season ended with a lot of Personal Records for our athletes who gave it their all on the track. In our Gremlin girls division. Jaime Medina had a PR of 18.64 and a 4th place overall finish in the 100 meter dash and a 3rd place finish in the 200 (40.51). Emery Riesgo had a great day on the track with 4 PR’s in the 400 (50.62), 100 (23.79), 200 (50.62) and long jump (6-2.00). Gracee Pillado finished her season with a PR of 2:08.78 in the 400 and 59.44 in the 200. Alessandra Ramirez had a huge PR in the 800 running a personal best in 3:53.92. Valerie Ramirez (52.35) and Alani Halcon (21.99) both PR’d in the 200.

Gremlin boy Nyle Johnson blazed his way to 3, 1st place finishes in the 400 (1:39.83), 100 (17.11) and 200 (37.35) meter race. Teammate Miles Kaiser had a 4th place finish with a PR of 1:39.83 (400) and 200 (44.50). Also bringing in some heat were teammates Jacob Banuelos who took 1st place in the 800 (3:21.37) and a 200 PR (18.33). Adrien Marrufo 100 (18.44), 200(39.48), Samuel Bennett II 100 (22.40), long jump (5-02.00). Sebastian Fraga 200 (41.28), and Julian Razo 200 (51.36) also had personal records. Blazers took a 1, 2 finishes in long jump with Jace Chewning (1st) and Julian Nunez jumping a PR of 7-06.50. Also setting Personal records were Moses Magaña (6-04.00).

Bantam girls Aixa Lomeli took 1st place with a PR of 1:21.94 in the 400. Hannah Faulk finished 3rd with a PR of 1:24.76. Ava Hurtado (1:33.41) and Nayeli Ponce (1:39.37) also earned PR’s. Heating up the 100 meter race were Cali Halcon (17.53), Sophia Hurtado (19.09), Viviannah Vargas (19.24), Aria Pillado (19.93), Natalie Espitia (21.47) and Layla Bernal (20.55), 200(46.07). Coraline Villela blazed into a 1st place finish and PR of 3:07.36 in the 800 meters. Setting personal records in the 200 meter race were Samantha Jimenez (38.22) who also jumped into a 2nd place finish. Setting PR’s were Coraline Villea (8-03.00) and Ava Hurtado (6-09.00).

Bantam Boys Jacob Cruz had a personal best in the 1600 race with a time of 6:42.91. Luke Furness (1:25.67), and Xayvier Magana (1:46.09) earned PR’s in the 400 meters. Running

Final wrap up for the Lady Flashes. Season ending for the Flashes in the CIFSS Division 4 Round 2 match up with Hillcrest High School. Final score Fillmore - 3 – Hillcrest – 5. Overall Record: 20-7. Game Highlights: Emma Estrella pitched seven innings with thirteen strikeouts. Makayla Balboa hit a 3 run homerun in the 7th inning. Aryanne Munoz- had a single. Marissa Lugo had a single. Emma Estrella had a single.

Fillmore walked off Hueneme in the bottom of the 7th. Jathan Magana pitched a complete game striking out 10, walking 4, giving up only 2 hits. He also went 2 for 3, driving in the tying run. Ivan Becerra hit the RBI walkoff single. Jarod Uridel went 2 for 3 with a run scored. Anthony Chessani went 2 for 3 with an RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored. Ray Alcantar went 3 for 3 with 3 singles.
