Flashes are Frontier League Champions
![]() Collin Farrar ran for 148 yards and 4 touchdowns. Andrey Sanchez ran for 125 yards and a touchdown. Jonathan Flores had 6 tackles, 1 sack and 2 tackles for a loss. Brett Edwards had 7 tackles, 3 for a loss. Adam Jimenez had 5 tackles 3 for a loss and 2 sacks. According to Coach Matt Dollar, â We played great defense, holding them to -22 yards rushing and only 117 yards in the air. ![]() The Fillmore Raiders Senior team and the J-2 both won their first round of play-offs last Saturday. The Seniorâs beat Saugus 38-0 and will play away against Grace Brethern, Saturday November 3rd. J-2âs beat Westlake 30-0 and will play at home this Saturday 2:00 p.m. against Crown Valley. Enlarge Photo On Tuesday, October 16, the team invited the league to challenge the home course at the Fillmore school farm and competed for the final Tri-Valley League rankings before the league championship. The boysâ varsity placed second to Oak Park who is now tied with the Flashes in league while the girls maintained their 4th place spot. The junior varsity girls maintain 3rd in league but improved their score by 20 points. The junior varsity boys also find themselves in 2nd place overall in league. Climbing Mt. SAC The best performances of the day came from the Boyâs sweepstakes race and the JV National Championship race. Your Fillmore Flashes Cross Country teams won both races. In a nail biter that came down to the finish the varsity boys managed to edge out Salesian by a narrow 4 point margin. Hugo Valdovinos surged to the forefront to finish 7th overall with a very impressive 15:55. Alexander Frias and Anthony Rivas finished 12th and 13th at 16:12 while Isaac Gomez was 28th at 16:33. Jose Almaguer and Adrian Mejia placed 30th and 31st at 16:36. The rising super star, Nicolas Frias, placed 55th with a clocking of 17:05 to round out the boysâ varsity team. The JV boysâ race was an excellent example of pack tactics as Frank Chavez, Justin Beach, and Vincent Chavez placed 3rd, 4th, and 5th with Frank recording a 17:17 and Beach and Chavez at 17:31 and 17:32. Jovani Oregon was 13th at 17:45 and David Enriquez finished in 17:51 at 15th place. Perce's Kenpo Karate Studio of Fillmore had it's annual karate tournament October 6, 2012 at Fillmore Middle School. The karate tournament had over 129 students competing from Ventura county, and Arizona. The results from Perce's Kenpo Karate students are as follow: forms divisions: 4-5 yrs. ![]() (above) Nick Sanchez (#21), with the help of his teammates, take down the runner. Fillmore Varsity defeated Santa Clara 41,7. Collin Farrar ran for over 190 yards and three touchdowns. Andrey Sanchez ran for over 100 yards and had a touchdown pass reception. Carson McLain threw for over 165 yards and two touchdowns. The Flashes had over 500 yards of offense. âBoth the offense and the defense played solid, we need to have to have great practices to continue the momentum.â Fillmore JV defeated Santa Clara 62,0. JV Flashes open Frontier league with a win over the Santa Clara Saints. On offense the Flashes had 7 different players score touchdowns led by freshman Bryce Farrar and Vincent Whittaker with 2 TDâs, also scoring for the Flashes were Michael Luna, Jorge Andrade, Nick Liu, Damien Gonzalez, and Joseph Magana, who was 8 for 8 on his P.A.T. attempts. Quarterback Carlos Brecino was 4 of 5 throwing for 102 yards and 2 TDâs. The offensive line did a amazing job at blocking for the running backs, they are led by Chad Petuoglu, Michael Castro, Michael Townead, Jarred Warren, Emilio Hernandez, and Wes Breechen. Eric competed in the NKC National Championship at The Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas , NV on Sept.28-29, 2012. More than 30,000 spectators were at the competition and expo. The Fillmore Middle School wrestlers are Coached by Manuel (Chicken) Ponce (not pictured). They have wrestled Frank Intermidiate Middle School and Freemont Middle School, both in Oxnard. They will be wrestling Isbell Middle School on October 10 at Isbell (Santa Paula). Other Middle Schools in the leauge are Balboa (Ventura) and Matilija (Ojai). These boys have been working real hard, Their goal is to get to the league championships and do well. |

With visions of large trees in their minds the boysâ varsity team traveled north to Palo Alto over the weekend with plans on competing in the prestigious Stanford Invitational. Promises were made to go to Ghirardelli square if they ran well or Alcatraz if they did not. The team took to the 5k college course and left it all on the field. They placed 1st in Division 4 and 5th overall against California schools. Once again tight group running allowed them to surge to the forefront. Jose Almaguer, the varsity runner of the meet, led the pack this time around with his finish of 16:28. This was fast enough for eleventh place. Alexander Frias, Hugo Valdovinos and Anthony Rivas were next, finishing 15th, 18th and 19th respectively. Isaac Gomez was the final scorer for the team at 22nd place and Adrian Mejia and Nicolas Frias held off the competition and kept the other teams at bay. In an amazing day of intense cross country action the fan favorite team of Fillmore managed to play off their incredible abilities to power through the line and place high in the results for all divisions. The boysâ varsity in a spectacular effort finished 3rd through 7th and 9th letting only two runners finish ahead of them and only one runner to break up the group. They once again had tight grouping and managed to finish within 5 seconds of each other to earn the first place slot in the meet. This weekâs runner of the meet for the boysâ varsity Adrian Mejia led the effort with a 17:04.6. Over the next 5.08 seconds the remaining boys Isaac Gomez, Hugo Valdovinos, Anthony Rivas and Jose Almaguer would cross the line. Nico Frias in an impressive effort finished in 17:27.48. The boysâ have now gotten an early lead with their first place team victory. The girlsâ varsity was led by the charge of this weekâs runner of the week Alexis Tafoya. The girls managed to hang on for a respectable 1:35 difference between scorers. Despite being banged up a bit with some injuries the girls surged for a fourth place overall finish. The girlsâ junior varsity also had a great race, finishing 3rd overall with Briana Segoviano and Amber Wilmot leading the charge finishing within seconds of each other and anchoring a 1:48 spilt difference between the first 5 scorers. Amber had such a superb performance that she earned runner of the week for the JV girls. The junior varsity boys rounded out the day finishing 2nd overall with all 5 scorers in the top ten and all 7 placers in the top 20. Thirty four seconds separated the first place finisher Frank Chavez from 10th place finisher Sammy Martinez. Javier Rodriguez was the stand out performer of the day earning a coveted week in the spotlight with his JV boy runner of the week accomplishment. Up next the boysâ varsity team will head to the Stanford Invitational on Saturday while the rest of the team will travel to the Dos Pueblos Invitational in Santa Barbara on Friday.
