 Fillmore High senior Fabian Del Villar advances to the CIF SS Division 4 Finals at El Camino College in both the 1600m and 3200m races this weekend. This meet was against Oxnard, Simi Valley, Ojai and Ventura. Many of our local athletes completed their track season with personal records. In the (7-8/division) Jayden Cortez's feet did not fail him in his last track meet of the season, he Personal record’s in the 100m 19.09, 200m 42.64 and 400m 1:29.83; Jacob Vasquez 17.35, Aiden Arias 17.49 and JuanCarlos Garcia 18.52 all in the 100m; Aaliyah Arias ran her heart out with a 400m 1:59.30 Personal record; Jaylene Ponce both in the 100m 19.90 and 800m 3:33.68; both Maren Kubler 1:41.38 and Natalia Retana 1:44.45 in the 400m. In the (9-10/ division) Jacob Martinez had a Personal record in his 400m 1:12.55; Eddie Sumaran 16.89 and Manuel Kubler 18.21 in the 100m; in jumps we had Adrian Uribe 10'-01 and Declan Doran 6'-06.25 with their best jumps of the season. Julie Luna 20.20, Sandra Vaiz 19.28, and Kaylee Riedmiller 15.38 all had a 100m Personal record; both Sarah Cedillos 15.71/32.93, C'Enna Uribe 15.73/32.99 raced to a Personal record in their 100m and 200m; Alani McKeen 1:29.18 and Aliana Manzano 1:24.58 both Personal record 's in the 400m race. In the (11-12/division) Elijah Kubler leaped over into a season best time of 20.69 in the 80m Hurdles; Noah Flores Personal record's in the 1600m 5:54.18 and right behind him was Diego Felix who excelled with season bests in the 800m 2:49.05, 1600m 5:54.48 and a throw of 20'-03.5 in shot put. Also throwing his Personal record was Jasiah Patterson 20'-09.25; For the girls 400m race, PR's we ran by Ava Manzano 1:29.02, Sara Magdaleno 1:33.04 and twin sisters Karinna 1:22.95 and Emelie Magana 1:32.49. In the (13-14/division) the 100m race Personal record 's we accomplished by Kade Larson 13.58, Benedict Collins 13.68 and Noah Juarez 14.78; 200m RESONAL RECORD was ran by Angel Gonzalez 31.66; in the 400m race Personal record 's were ran by Josiah Guzman 1:00.27, Luis Castaneda 1:01.78, Eric Morales 1:02.14 and Nomar Diaz 1:25.94; In the long jump we had Josiah Cruz with a Personal record of 11'-07.25; Jonathan Tarango ran a 1:23.57 400m Personal record and threw his furthest in shot put with a throw of 24'-11.5. In the 100m race Alexis Lopez ran a PR of 17.81; Aaliyah Kendricks 200m PR of 31.97 and then jumped a season best of 12'-4 in long jump; Danna Munoz 400m Personal record of 1:30.50; Yaraby Herrera jumped her highest in high jump with a 4'-3 PR; Karime Ramirez had two season best in the 200m 32.91 and 400m 1:20.76 races to complete her track and field season. This Saturday, May 11th, 2019 Heritage Valley Blazers will be taking all their "A" Relay teams and an additional 34 athletes who qualified for the Ventura County Youth Track Conference (VCYTC) Championships, formally known as Varsity at Moorpark High School. They will be competing against the top athletes in Ventura County. GO BLAZERS! Submitted by Erika Arana This past weekend on April 13th and 14th, the Heritage Valley Blazers competed in the two-day 10th Annual Southern California Invitational at Oxnard High School. A total of 16 clubs from both Ventura County and Southern California Youth Track and Field Conference, were in attendance. Our Blazer athletes brought home a total of 44 medals, 18 for the girls and 26 for the boys. Saturday events began with the 3000's. Blazer athletes Niza Laureano (11-12/girls) finished 2nd in 11.23.52; Lindsey Ramirez also finishing 2nd with a time of 10:57.10 and teammate Carolina Garcia in 3rd with 11:27.89, both (13-14/girls). Middle distance medalist in the 800m were Paola Estrada, with a 1st place victory of 2:39.92 PR; Timothy Pillado II in his best performance and victory yet, 2:37.76 PR; Ayden Marquez, 4th in 2:42.28 PR, all in (9-10/division). Kaliz Perez finished 5th in 2:33.43 PR (13-14/girls); and Luis Castañeda, 8th in 2:26.24 PR (13-14/boys). Last Saturday event was the 200m, where we saw Timothy Pillado II take 3rd in a 30.70 PR (9-10/boys); Leah Barragan, also 3rd in 29.22 PR (11-12/girls); and Josiah Guzman in 8th, 26.50 PR (13-14/boys). Sunday morning began on a high note with Blazer Paola Estrada's braking record 1500m run (9-10/girls) in 5:18.24. Previous record was set in 2014 with a 5:19.40. Next 1500m victory was, Ayden Marquez who ran a 5:28.36; and Abel Arana placed 7th in 5:41.52 (9-10/boys). Niza Laureano, 2nd in 5:23.52 (11-12/girls); and Lindsey Ramirez 4:55.19 for 2nd place (13-14/girls). Blazer's only hurdler was Noah Halcon (11-12/boys) who made finals and medaled in 6th place with a time of 17.05 in the 80m Hurdles. In the 4x100m relay finals, we saw Sarah Cedillos, Jasmine Gonzalez, Aliana Manzano and C'Enna Uribe take 2nd in 1:03.13 (9-10/girls). The (9-10/boys) had to fight their way back into the finals after a zone exchange DQ on Saturday. The fierce team of Isaiah Morales, Jacob Martinez, Rodrigo Castillo and Timothy Pillado II, came back faster, placing 2nd with a time of 1:00.38; Nathan Kendricks, Joseph Moore, Josiah Guzman and Nathan Garcia, placed 3rd in 52.23 for the (13-14/boys). 400m races saw Jasmine Gonzalez in 2nd with 1:14.04 PR and Sarah Cedillos in 5th, 1:16.18 PR (9-10/girls); Rodrigo Castillo, 2nd in 1:13.35 PR and Jacob Martinez right behind in 3rd with a time of 1:14.01 PR (9-10/boys); both girls and Rodrigo have now bumped into the top 9 spots in Venturia County; Diego Amezcua finished in 1:02.42 for 3rd (13-14/boys). Sprinter Leah Barragan was the only Blazer athlete who made the 100m finals on Sunday. Leah's fast competition was a taste of what is in store for her at Co-Conference Championships in May. She medaled in 4th place with a time of 14.13 (11-12/girls). Our (13-14/boys) 4x400m relay team, was ran by Luis Castañeda, Joseph Moore, Eric Morales and Nathan Kendricks, who represented in 3rd with 4:13. In field events, shot putters Carlos Esquivel, threw a PR distance of 18-04 for 5th place and Emanuel Velasquez pushed his 3' PR into the top 9 Ventura County spots with his 7th place throw of 17-01.50 in (9-10/boys); first time Blazer athlete Kaylee Riedmiller threw 24-04 PR for 5th (11-12/girls); Nathan Alcantar, 2nd with a 29-06.50 PR (11-12/boys); and Celeste Velazquez, throwing 30-08 for 4th (13-14/girls). Blazers compete away on April 20th, in what will be their fifth meet of the regular season against the Oxnard Stars at Oxnard High School. GO BLAZERS! Fillmore Flashes Varsity Fall Short To Thousand Oaks, 5-3 Fillmore Flashes Varsity fired up the offense in the first inning, when Tatiana Werts homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs. Thousand Oaks pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. In the third Madison Wilson singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Zoe Ballen was in the pitcher's circle for Thousand Oaks. She surrendered three runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one. Werts was on the rubber for Fillmore Flashes Varsity. She surrendered five runs on 13 hits over seven innings, striking out three and walking zero. Fillmore Flashes Varsity tallied one home run on the day. Werts had a long ball in the first inning. Ebony Venegas led Fillmore Flashes Varsity with two hits in three at bats. Thousand Oaks racked up 13 hits in the game. Alexa Pollara, Ballen, Savannah Graham, Wilson, and Lindsey Archer all managed multiple hits for Thousand Oaks. |

Submitted by Erika Arana With Spring just underway, The Heritage Valley Blazers track and field team had plenty of bounce in their step as they competed on Saturday, April 6, 2019, in the fourth meet of the season. This was the third meet the club hosted at Fillmore High School, which saw some of our local athletes competing for victory as well as personal records against the Thousand Oaks Flyers. 3200m distance runners this week were Niza Laureano placing first in 12.19.63 (girls/11-12); Lindsey Ramirez 11:43.31 and Carolina Garcia 12:25.97 (girls/13-14). Combing speed and endurance in middle distance in the 1600m run were Aaliyah Tarango 7:50.37 (girls/7-8) first; Abel Arana with a PR of 6:04.64 for first (boys/9-10). Paola Estrada 5:50.26 first and Kaylani Perez 6:07.99 second, both in (girls/9-10); Niza Laureano 5:52.44 (girls/11-12); and Peter Kuebler a PR of 5:17.76 for first (boys/15-16). In the 800m run, Carlee Perez 3:52.94 first (girls/7-8); Paola Estrada 2:43.00 first (girls/9-10); Lindsey Ramirez 2:26.12 first (girls/13-14); and Timothy Pillado II 2:45.56 first with teammate Santiago Felix second (boys/9-10). Distance runner gone Sprinter was Lucy Zuniga (girls/7-8) who has been blazing a trail in every single event she races. This week she placed first in the 100m, 200m, and 400m Dash, putting her in the top rankings for Ventura County. Also placing first in the 200m Dash, was Vincent Halcon 38.86 (boys/7-8); Leah Barragan 29:50 (girls/11-12); and Albert Penuelas 28.50 (boys/11-12). In the 400m Dash, HV Blazers had four in a row across the finish line in the (girls/9-10) with Jasmine Gonzalez 75.98, Sarah Cedillos, D’Andra Amezcua and Aliana Manzano, in order. Leah Barragan, first with a PR of 68.93, also PR’s right behind her were Destiny Cardona in 3rd 76.39 and Jaelyn Castro, 4th with 76.96 (girls/11-12); Kaliz Perez PR of 66.03 for first (girls 13-14); and John Paul Mohun 57.80 also first (boys/15-16). In the 4x400m relay, Jacob Martinez, Evan Ramirez, Isaiah Morales and Rodrigo Castillo took the win with a time of 5:18.49 (boys/9-10). Long Jump leapers impressed with jumps of 16-09.50 for Diego Amezcua; John Paul Mohun 16-02.00 and Joseph Collins all in (boys/15-16). Throws saw Carlos Esquivel PR with a throw of 17-01.50 (boys 9-10); Nathan Alcantar threw 28-06.25 in (boys/11-12) for first; and continuing to dominate the field were Celeste Velazquez, with a distance throw of 31-03.50 in (girls/13-14) and Kade Larson first 34-04.50 (boys/13-14). Next on the schedule sees the Blazers traveling to Oxnard High School to compete in the 10th Annual Southern California Youth Invitational on Saturday, April 13th and Sunday 14th, 2019. FILLMORE, CA - This past weekend saw the return of the Heritage Valley Blazers to the Fillmore High School Track for their second of four scheduled home meets. The Blazers went foot-to-foot with a strong team representing The Newbury Park Panthers. A day’s worth of events started off early with Blazer athletes taking over the 3200m run with victories by Niza Laureano (11-12/girls) in 12.22.97 and by Carolina Garcia (13-14/girls) with a time of 13.00.37. One of track and field’s most challenging events, hurdles, saw victory for Noah Halcon (11-12/boys) who pulled out the win in a time of 17.06 in the 80m Hurdles 30” as well as for Benedict Collins (13-14/boys) in the 100m Hurdles 33” in a time of 20.06. Blazers girls dominated the 100m dash by holding tight to victories in nearly all age groups. First place finishers include Destina Guzman (7-8/girls) in 21.44; C’Enna Uribe (9-10/girls) in 15.86; Leah Barragan (11-12/girls) in 14.12; and Jennifer Castillo (13-14/girls) in 14.27. Middle distance saw outstanding performance and victory in the 1600m run for Lucy Zuniga (7-8/girls) in 7:19.33; Paola Estrada (9-10/girls) in 5:51.18; Niza Laureano (11-12/girls) in 5:47.87; and Ayden Marquez (9/10/boys) with a time of 6:01.76. Field event long jumper, Jasmine Gonzalez (9-10/girls) went the distance to take first with a jump of 8-11-00 and Diego Amezcua (15-16/boys) went 15-11.00 for the victory. Each week Blazer athletes train hard and bring forth their best in competition, team spirit, sportsmanship, and in reaching for their personal goals.  Pictured above are Fillmore Flashes Ana Cuvarrubias and Andrea Marruffo who made the All-County Soccer Team. For the second year in a row Fillmore has two players on the All-County Team. Ana Covarrubias, a 5’2 junior striker, scored 16 goals and had 9 assists. Ana was on the All-County Team last year as a sophomore. She was named 2019 Citrus Coast League Offensive Player of the Year. Ana has scored an impressive 76 goals through her junior year. Andrea Marruffo of Fillmore, 5’4 also made first team all league as a junior, and returns as a senior with 7 goals and 14 assists, with 31 assists overall in the last two seasons. Submitted By Coach Cindy Blatt Fillmore Varsity Boys and Girls participated in the very competitive Ventura County High School Swim Championships last week at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Varsity Girls placed tied for 12th (out of 17 teams) beating Buena, Santa Paula Channel Islands and St. Bonaventure. Kat Furness placed second in the 50 yd. freestyle with a personal best time & new school record and she placed third in the 100 yd. backstroke. The Varsity Girls 200 yd. Medley Relay swim to a CIF Consideration time (Kat Furness, Yazmeen Gonzalez, Karen Trujillo & Zoe Avila). They also swim to a CIF Consideration time in the 200 yd. Freestyle Relay (Zoe Avila, Natalie Couse, Yazmeen Gonzalez & Kat Furness). Varsity Boys placed 15th out of 17 teams beating Villanova and St. Bonaventure. All the boys swim well especially the final swim in the 400 yd. Freestyle relay dropping 14 seconds from their time. (Ricky Cadena, George Mooradian, James Chandler & Ethan Gray). |

The Heritage Valley Blazers track and field club kicked off their season opener, Saturday, March 16, at the Fillmore High School Track. With laces tied tight and anticipation high, The Blazers welcomed the Ventura Tigres and saw youth participants of all skill levels, ages 6 to 16, taking part in running events, hurdles, relays, shot put, long jump, and high jump. After weeks of conditioning and training, the hard work paid off and the Blazers saw outstanding effort and performance by all. This week’s event highlights include: The boys 100m dash (7-8yr) which saw all three top positions taken by Blazers (1) Aiden Arias 18.15; (2) Jacob Vazquez; (3) Vincent Halcon 19.21. Double individual victories were seen for several athletes in the running events including Leah Barragan who took home two first place finishes in the 100m dash (11-12yr/girls) with a time of 14.24 and in the 200m dash (11-12yr/girls) with a time of 30.62. Aiden Arias ran to a first place finish in the 100m dash (7-8yr/boys) with a time of 18.15 and in the 400m dash (7-8yr/boys) with a time of 1:27.40. Likewise, Timothy Pillado II took home double individual victories in the 100m dash (9-10yr/boys) with a time of 14.97 and in the 400m dash (9-10yr/boys) in 70.96. Albert Penuelas took over the 100m (11-12yr/boys) with a time 13.94 and the 200m (11-12yr/boys) in 29.75. Paola Estrada gave an outstanding performance to win the 800m (9-10yr/girls) in a time of 2:46.22 and as well as the 1600 (9-10yr/girls) in 5:58.88. Peter Kuebler demonstrated his running skills in the 800m (15-16yr/boys) by running to victory in 2:29.67 and then in the 1600 (15-16yr/boys) in 5:33.77. Blazer’s showed strong representation in fielding events with long jump victories for Isaiah Morales (9-10yr/boys) with a distance of 11-08.00 and for John Paul Mohun (15-16yr/boys) with a distance of 15-06.50. Shot Putters Celeste Velazquez (13-14yr/girls) threw a winning distance of 30-07.25 and Kade Larson (13-14yr/boys) grab victory by throwing 36-04.75. The focus and design of the program is to see athletes throughout the Fillmore, Santa Paula, and Piru reach their full potential through positivity, sportsmanship, respect, and love for the sport. The Heritage Valley Blazers would like to thank all the volunteers and coaches for their support in achieving this goal. Next on the schedule sees the Blazers traveling to Ojai on March 23rd to take on the Ojai Roadrunners. |

 Fillmore High’s Katrionna Furness took 1st place in the 50 yard free prelims with a 25.33 time, and 3rd place (above) in the finals with a 25.50.  This past weekend at the Veterans Memorial Building, the Fillmore Youth Recreation Basketball Program participated in the End of Season Pizza Party, official last games of the season, and the Fillmore vs. Santa Paula Recreation Program Basketball games! For the record, all of Fillmore’s Youth Recreation Players that we’re able to attend the pizza party on Friday had a great time we hear! Saturday February 23rd was full of excitement as the last official games of the season were played & on Sunday. Santa Paula came to Fillmore. Fillmore won all games against Santa Paula on Sunday, but at the end of the day, all children who played in those games showed sportsmanship & had a morning of fitness. This Sunday, March 3rd, will be the all-stars games at Fillmore Middle School Gym starting at 9am. Be sure to go show your support to the youth this Sunday.  On Friday-Saturday, February 8 -9 2019, Fillmore wrestlers competed in the Individual SSCIF Wrestling Tournament at Citrus Hill High School in Perris, Ca. Nine Fillmore wrestlers qualified to compete and took 4th place and 2nd moving on to Masters on February 15 – 16 at Cerritos Community College.
