STUDENT INFORMATION

1. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL – If you are interested in being a part of the FMS girls volleyball team, come to a meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 23rd in the media center. Meetings will be held during both lunches.
2. SCHOOL RULES – If you are absent from school, be sure to have your parent phone the school or send a note stating why you were absent.
3. ID CARDS – If you were not here on registration days, you do not have an ID card. We will have a picture make-up day on Monday, Sept. 12th and you will have your picture taken and an ID card issued to you on that day. Until then, you will still be able to get lunch and check out books from the library.
4. CAFETERIA – Students need to have their ID cards out and ready for scanning when you go through the lunch line. All students must show their ID. We recognize that some students do not have their cards yet and you will still be allowed to go through the lunch line.
5. A NEW CLUB ON CAMPUS – If you are interested in joining a new club that will be active in the performing arts, such as music, art or drama, plan to meet after school in room G-1 on Tuesday, August 23rd. All grades welcome!
6. 6th GRADERS – Want to make a difference? Be a part of making our school more fun? See Mrs. Bortins in room K-4 by Friday, Aug. 18th to be a part of ASB. FMS needs you!

1. THE FILLMORE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT board policy provides a process for complaints alleging discrimination of a program or a program’s failure to comply with state or federal law. The policy protects the privacy rights of the complainant and prohibits retaliation for filing a complaint. Complaints must be written on “Program Discrimination/Legal Violation Complaint Form” available from the Assistant Superintendent and filed within six months of the incident or when it became known. Help in filling out the form will be provided if needed. All other types of complaints, including complaints regarding personnel or instructional materials follow other board policies. The process for registering other complaints is: 1) if the complaint concerns a teacher, first contact the teacher. 2) if the complaints are not resolved by the teacher, contact the principal of the school, then the district superintendent, and finally the Board of Education. 2. SCHOOL RULES – It is very important that you are on time to school every day and on time to each class period. School starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:50 p.m.
3. LATE START DAYS will be on Friday’s this school year. Start time will be 9:00 a.m. The first late start day is this Friday, 8/19/11.

6. LIBRARY - All library and textbook materials are due! We still have 500 library books checked out! You may bring them in tomorrow even though there is no school. The office will be open on Friday.

FMS held an open advisory chess tournament last week; as of May 31st the finalist ( Juan Holladay, David Cadena, and Nick Liu) were in double elimination status. Several students are very excited to participate in the chess tournament next year. The participants in this year’s tournament were as follows: Diego Rodrigues, William Guess, Ian Overton, Cody Isaacs, Ivan Campos, Zach Saint Pierre, Vicente Hernandez, Broc Foster, Anthonty Castaneda, matt Wilmot, and Micha Hartzell.

Show your pride by wearing red, white and blue or your baseball or softball jersey. Buy a Jamba Juice for $4.00. Enjoy the BBQ and then check out the activities all over campus. Leave your cell phones at home so at the end of the day you can enjoy being sprayed by the fire trucks!
9. AVID will be selling Pico De Gallo, fruit cups with lemon and chili, for $2 at Pride in America Day. Don’t forget your money. They are delicious so come early – we sell out every year!
10. ASB is taking sign-up during lunch for a basketball tournament during Pride in America Day. Get a team of 5 players and sign up! The last team standing wins!
11. SHUFFLE BATTLE on Pride in America Day. If you want to participate in it you will need to sign up with Isis Munoz Garibay by Wednesday, 5/25.
12. 8th GRADE SKATERS – Sign up with Mr. Cummings to skate during Pride in America Day. Advanced skaters only. You must be able to do an Ollie. No suspension during 4th quarter and you must wear all skating equipment while skating. Sign up by Wednesday, 5/25.
13. ALL VETERANS and/or active duty soldiers are invited to attend our Pride in America assembly on Friday, 5/27 at 10:00 a.m. in the gym. Please turn in their name and a short description of their service to our country to Mrs. Ecklund in the office or to your 1st period teacher.
14. SUBMIT YOUR PRIDE graffiti art and name to Mrs. Nichols TODAY in order to participate in the graffiti wall on Pride in America Day.

STUDENT INFORMATION

1. CONGRATULATIONS to the Poetry Slam winners: 1st Place – Sammy Estrada, 2nd Place – Leonardo Rodriguez, and 3rd Place – Isaiah Chavez.
2. SCHOOL RULES – All students should stay within the blue lines at lunch. If you are past the blue lines, you may receive an administrative detention. Thanks for following the rules!
3. PROMOTION – 8th grade promotion takes place on Thursday, June 2nd at 11:00 a.m. Students are encouraged to wear nice school clothing – nothing formal. Our dress code will be strictly enforced. Also, no balloons will be allowed in the gym so be sure to share that information with your parents. 6th & 7th graders wishing to attend the promotion ceremony must be checked out by an adult through the front office.
4. LIBRARY - All library and textbook materials are due! No more library books may be checked out. There are 1400 library books still checked out; it is up to you to return your books and pay your fines. There are a lot of field trips scheduled so plan accordingly! Thank you for a wonderful year!

STUDENT INFORMATION

1. PRIDE IN AMERICA DAY is a special day where we show pride in our country and honor our veterans. As part of that day we will be making special flags with our Wall of Honor Certificates. If you have family members or friends who are veterans please fill out a Wall of Honor certificate and return it to your 6th period teacher or Mrs. Wade by Wednesday, 5/18.
2. YEARBOOKS ARE HERE! They will be delivered to 8th graders during 4th period on Tuesday, May 24th and they will be on sale after school Tuesday to 8th graders only. 6th & 7th graders will have yearbooks delivered on Wednesday, May 25th. Yearbooks will be on sale to all students on Wednesday. Cost is $50, cash only, no checks. Please do not come to Miss Beal’s room to ask to get yours early. They will not be handed out any earlier or on sale any earlier.
3. SCHOOL RULES – Possession of a firearm, knife, explosive or other dangerous object will result in a 5-day suspension and expulsion recommendation.

5. HIGH SCHOOL PEP SQUAD – If you are an 8th grader and interested in trying out for the high school pep squad, please sign up on the clipboard at Mrs. Lemons’ desk at the high school front office. More information will follow regarding tryouts.
6. 8th GRADERS – Remember, for the end of the year trip to the park you must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 for the year and no suspensions in the 4th quarter. Also, all library fines must be paid. See Mrs. DuBois for further information.
7. PENNIES FOR PATIENTS – For the next few weeks FMS will be participating in the “Pennies for Patients” program. Donate your loose change to your 6th period class and help save some lives. See Mr. Cummings for more information.
8. LIFETOUCH PICTURES – Students who received their promotion and/or Spring pictures need to return the pictures, money due, or a combination of both to the office. There is a large collection bin in the office. Please do not disturb the office as you return your picture envelopes.
9. RELAY IDOL – The Relay for Life program, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, is holding auditions on Saturday, May 21st at 3:00 p.m. in Central Park for local singers or groups. The winner will perform the National Anthem at the Relay for Life on September 17th, 2011 and also be part of the 24-hr. Fight Against Cancer. Pick up a flyer in the front office for further information on how to register to audition.
10. WALK-A-THON – Fillmore High School is sponsoring the second annual walk-a-thon on Wednesday, May 18th from 8:30-5:30 p.m. benefiting Make-A-Wish and Kids for Wish Kids Foundation. If you are interested in participating contact Principal Wilber at the high school.

2. TDAP – Clinicas del Camino Real is offering a TDAP immunization clinic this Saturday, 5/14 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. No student will receive his or her class schedule or be able to start the 2011-12 school year until the school health offices receive proper TDAP documentation.
