Fillmore Middle School runs an AVID program. (AVID) Advancement Via Individual Determination.

The mission of AVID is to ensure that all students, especially middle-performing students, will:

• Succeed in the most rigorous curriculum
• Enter the mainstream activities of the school
• Increase their enrollment in four-year colleges
• Become educated, responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society.

This Fall, the AVID Center recognized Fillmore Middle School as an AVID national Certified School. This achievement is attained when a school has met the 11 AVID program essentials and completed the self-study/validation process. A big cheer to all and a special than you to our middle school AVID teachers: Heather Atwood, Emily DuBois and Ashley McClain. Jim Nelson, AVID Executive Director and Dr. Michele Marcus, National Director of Program Quality signed the certificate that is proudly being displayed in the middle school office outside the principal, Dr. Green’s office.

Another certificate of recognition is being displayed at the middle school from Wells Fargo Pacific Coast Community Bank that was presented to the school on October 20, 2011. The California Legislative Assembly created a “Certificate of Recognition” for Fillmore Middle School saluting their efforts and contributions to the community. Ernie Villegas signed the certificate from the office of Jeffrey F. Gorell, Assemblyman from the 37th District.
