1. RED RIBBON WEEK starts today! The Red Ribbon Week trivia question today is: True or False? Most parents talk to their kids about drugs. The first 5 students to see Mrs. Bortins on the stage during break will get a prize!

1. INCLEMENT WEATHER – Do you know what “inclement weather” is? Inclement is an adjective that describes severe, rough, harsh or stormy weather. Some examples of inclement weather conditions that we have experienced in Fillmore have been rain, wind, and smoky air. There will be days ahead where we will experience “inclement weather” and we want you to know that during the lunch breaks, we will open the gym and students will be required to eat and spend the lunch break inside protected from the weather conditions. So, the next time you hear we are on an “inclement weather” schedule, you will know that your lunch break will take place in the gym.

1. TOTALLY 80’s DANCE - Today's the last day to get your tickets for the Totally 80’s Dance. Get your ticket at lunch today and get a free glow bracelet you can wear to the dance. The 80’s Dance is TONIGHT, so grab your friends and come get down to some kickin' tunes. Don't be the only one to miss out!
2. SCHOOL RULES – Federal and state laws make sexual harassment illegal, whether it involves boys, girls, opposite-sex situations. Some examples of sexual harassment are calling out obscene names, passing dirty notes, calling someone at home, telling dirty stories, staring at a person’s body in a sexual way, purposely bumping into someone or standing in their way so they can’t pass, writing graffiti or starting rumors about someone’s sexual orientation or behavior. Touching someone in a sexual way (pinching, touching or grabbing) is considered sexual battery. This is serious and the harasser can be arrested by police and expelled from school. This behavior will not be tolerated.

Make sure that there are no visible undergarments, shirts and tops should not be low cut or revealing, pants may not hang below the hips and shorts should be no shorter than thumb tip length. There should be no reference to drugs, race, alcohol, tobacco, gangs, sexuality or tagging.

PARENT INFORMATION

1. MEET & GREET – Our first Meet & Greet for the 2011-12 school year takes place this Thursday, 9/29 from 7:30-8:30 a.m. We have changed these monthly meetings from Fridays to the last Thursday of each month. Come and join us for a light breakfast and information.

2. POSITIVE PARENTING GROUP with Triple P (Positive Parent Program) starts Wednesday, Sept. 28th at 5:30 p.m. at FMS. Does your child fight with siblings/peers, not follow directions, angry outburst or lying? Does your child struggle with low self-esteem? As a parent do you feel stressed out most of the time? Would guidance from a trained facilitator and feedback from other parents be helpful? If you are interested in this program, please contact school counselor Mrs. Reyes-Deutsch at 524-6056.
3. MRS MERRILL’S SCIENCE CLASSES are in need of garden supplies and volunteers. We need tools (shovels, rakes, etc.), red bricks (to build a salsa garden planter), volunteers to help us with irrigation for the gardens and getting the outdoor garden classroom built. Please contact Mrs. Merrill at 524-6070 or stop by on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday’s after school in J-1 is you have any donations or if you can help in any capacity.

STUDENT INFORMATION

1. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7th (next week) is the end of first quarter. This will be a minimum day. We will NOT have late start on that day. School will start at 8:00 a.m. and end at 12:15 p.m.
2. SCHOOL RULES – All students should be appropriately dressed for school. Make sure that there are no visible undergarments, shirts and tops should not be low cut or revealing, pants may not hang below the hips and shorts should be no shorter than thumb tip length. There should be no reference to drugs, race, alcohol, tobacco, gangs, sexuality or tagging.
3. OCTOBER BREAK takes place Saturday, October 8th through Monday, Oct. 17th. Students return to school on Tuesday, October 18th.

1. MRS MERRILL’S SCIENCE CLASSES are in need of garden supplies and volunteers. We need tools (shovels, rakes, etc.), red bricks (to build a salsa garden planter), volunteers to help us with irrigation for the gardens and getting the outdoor garden classroom built. Please contact Mrs. Merrill at 524-6070 or stop by on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday’s after school in J-1 is you have any donations or if you can help in any capacity.
2. PARENTS – SIGN UP FOR PARENT CONNECTION for Zangle. See your student’s grades, attendance, class assignments. You may access the required form at our website: www.fillmore.k12.ca.us Click on the “For Parents” drop down, Zangle Parent Connection, Registration Form. Print and complete the form and have your student deliver it to the front office. Once processed you will receive a PIN number for accessing your student’s information.

STUDENT INFORMATION

1. PERFORMING ARTS CLUB – Meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 9/20 in room G-1 during lunch.
2. SCHOOL RULES – Possession of an imitation firearm will result in a suspension and recommendation for expulsion.
3. NEED HOMEWORK HELP – Visit the Piru Colina Vista Homework Center. The center is located at Colina Vista Apartment between the Laundromat and basketball court. Open Mon., Tues. & Wed from 4-5 p.m. The Rancho Sespe Homework Center is located at Cesar Chavez Community Center. Computers are available at Rancho Sespe and coming soon to Piru Colina Vista.
4. CAFETERIA INFO – Student who receive free breakfast and lunch need to remember that you may only eat breakfast once per day. If you go through the line and eat breakfast and go through the line again at break, you will be charged for the food .
5. YEARBOOK SALES ARE HERE! Best price of the year - $40.00 with your name free. Add a nickname or an icon for $5.00. Check you the yearbook table at both lunches to see the icon symbols. If you have any questions, see Miss Beal in K-3.
