From Coach Tony Hernandez The defensive stoppers throughout the tournament were Isabel Hernandez and Miley Tello with Mikayla McKenzie and Lexi Pina sharing time in the net as goalkeepers. Lexi had two complete game shut outs in the semi-final and championship game with a blocked penalty kick for good measure. Our offense was led by forwards Jadon Rodriguez and Mikayla McKenzie who really came into their own this tournament with their gritty and aggressive play. Our tireless mid-fielders Tori Pina and Syanne Valencia worked both the offensive and defensive ends scoring goals and shutting down opponents while Kari Terrazas managed our team and got the offense rolling with her great distribution of the ball. Next for the Eels are the Western State Championships in Carson City, Nevada on March 25th where they will not only represent the great City of Fillmore, but the State of California against teams from Washington, Nevada and Oregon. This is an exciting opportunity for our hometown girls to make a lasting mark for the City of Fillmore. Keep wishing these ladies luck as they look to bring home yet another championship and a big thank you to all the family and friends that came out in support. Fillmore’s Electric Teal Eels emerged victorious at the section 10 League Championship in Bakersfield, and are now set to compete in the Western State Championship. |
