Fillmore, CA — November 20, 2025. The Fillmore High School girls wrestling team faced a demanding week, competing in back-to-back duels against Agoura and Thousand Oaks. On Wednesday night, the Flashes traveled to Agoura for a tightly contested matchup that came down to the final bouts. Despite standout performances—including a dominant technical fall by junior Naomi Bonilla—Fillmore fell just short, 34–29, against the Chargers, who are coached by Dylan Hull.
The following night, Fillmore returned home to host Thousand Oaks. Bonilla and senior Skyla Sandoval delivered strong efforts, but the Flashes were unable to overcome a series of forfeits as the veteran Lancers, coached by Manuel Valdez, pulled ahead for the win. While the Flashes team showed aggressiveness, Thousand Oaks capitalized on key moments as the Flashes continued to refine their execution.
Head coach Michael Torres praised his young roster, noting the growth shown by several first-year competitors and emphasizing that each duel is helping the team develop. Fillmore now stands at 1–2 in dual competition. The Lady Flashes return to dual meet competition on Wednesday, December 3rd at 5:30 p.m. in the FHS Gym, where they will host the Hueneme Vikings in their first Citrus Coast League match of the season.

The Fillmore High School Gymnasium roared with energy Wednesday night as the Fillmore Flashes Girls Wrestling team delivered a commanding 59–0 victory over the visiting Del Sol Jaguars. The Flashes earned wins in every bout.
The evening opened with a tense, back-and-forth match at 105 lbs. In the final seconds of the third period—down on points—junior Elvia Palmerin secured a dramatic fall over Sofia Cortes, setting the tone for the rest of the meet. At 115 lbs, standout wrestler and junior captain Naomi Bonilla continued the momentum with an impressive technical fall against Giselle Flores.
The Flashes extended their lead with a series of dominant performances. At 125 lbs, senior Delilah Cervantez earned a pin over Axea Dael, followed by freshman Sophia Valdovinos at 130 lbs, who secured her own pin against Citali Morales. Fillmore added more points through forfeits at 140 lbs (senior Skyla Sandoval) and 145 lbs (senior Michelle Pinedo).
The upper weights brought no slowdown in intensity. At 155 lbs, junior Yoseline Cruz delivered a strong pin over Mia Ortiz, while freshman Sophia Rivera followed at 170 lbs scoring a reversal into a fall against Daniela Trejo. Forfeits at 190 lbs (sophomore Candy Aguilar) and 235 lbs (freshman Annebelle Olaguez) sealed the flawless victory for the home team.
Fillmore head coach Michael Torres praised his athletes’ preparation. “Our girls were nervous but came ready to compete,” Torres said. “They’ve been working steadily, and tonight’s performance reflects their dedication.”
Del Sol head coach Aulama Lemalu Jr. acknowledged the challenge presented by the Flashes and expressed pride in his athletes’ effort despite the tough outcome.
The Flashes now look ahead to their next home meet on Thursday, November 20, at 5:30 p.m., when they will host the Thousand Oaks Lancers. The veteran Lancers squad is expected to provide a significantly tougher test than the young and developing Del Sol team.

The Fillmore Flashes lit up Larabee Stadium last Thursday night with a commanding 45–8 victory over their long-time rivals, the Santa Paula Cardinals, in front of one of the largest crowds in rivalry history. The 115th meeting between the two schools wasn’t just another game—it was a defining statement in the storied Battle for the Leather Helmet, as the Flashes dominated in all phases and brought the trophy home to Fillmore.
From the opening kickoff, Fillmore’s defense set the tone with relentless intensity, overwhelming Santa Paula’s offense with six sacks and stifling their attack at every turn. The Cardinals struggled to find rhythm or space, facing a defensive wall anchored by the leadership and energy of team captains Marcus Lechuga, Carlos Cabral, and Mauricio Ocegueda. Their guidance and dedication all season long were on full display—commanding the huddle, rallying teammates, and setting the standard for championship-level football.
On offense, the Flashes were equally dominant, rolling to over 250 rushing yards behind the powerhouse Offensive Line that cemented their spot as the #1 rushing attack in the county anchored by Senior captain Genaro Villela. Senior running back Jasiah Patterson led the charge with 141 yards and a touchdown, punishing defenders and showcasing the balance and confidence that have become hallmarks of this year’s squad. Seniors Carlos Cabral and Angel Rodriguez added their own rushing touchdowns to the mix while Junior Saul Fraga displayed his versatility scoring both on the ground and in the air on a beautiful back shoulder fade from fellow junior quarterback Nate Perez.
The night’s most electric moment came in the third quarter, when senior newcomer Brenden Banks-Speed sent the Fillmore crowd into a frenzy with a jaw-dropping 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, effectively sealing the game and etching his name into rivalry history.
With the resounding victory, Fillmore has now won four of the last five matchups against Santa Paula and capped off a historic 9–1 regular season—the program’s best record since 1989. Head Coach Charlie Weis praised his team’s effort, noting, “This win is a reflection of our captains’ leadership, our players’ and coaches hard work, and the pride that runs deep in this community.”
Now, the focus shifts to the postseason as the Flashes host Cerritos High School in the first round of the CIF Playoffs this Friday, November 7th at 7:00 PM at Flashes Stadium. This marks the fourth playoff appearance in the last five seasons, continuing the program’s era of consistency and excellence.
The Fillmore community is being called on to pack the stands in Flashes Blue and create a true hometown, home-field advantage. Every cheer, every chant, and every fan matters as the Flashes take the next step in their championship pursuit.
Bring your pride, your energy, and your voice—because Fillmore football is on fire, and we need you to help fan the flames.
Go Flashes!
