The Fillmore Fire Department in conjunction with the Fillmore Fire Foundation is kicking off the annual Holiday Toy Drive last week. Collection drop-off boxes for new toys are available at the Fillmore Police and City Fire Station, City Hall, local banks and Diamond Realty. As part of the Toy Drive, on Sunday, December 7, the Fillmore Fire Foundation will be holding the annual BBQ Chicken Dinner Fundraiser to collect donations that are used to purchase hundreds of toys for children in the Fillmore/Piru area. A complete chicken dinner meal is prepared for anyone wanting to donate fifteen dollars ($15) or a brand-new toy valued at fifteen dollars or more. This year, the dinner will return to the Fillmore Fire Station located at 711 Landeros Lane. Dinner will be served from 5:00 -7:00 PM and you may drive through for takeout or choose to dine indoors at the fire station. The hundreds of toys purchased from this event will be combined with those that are donated by the Community and then distributed on Saturday, December 13, in a huge Community Holiday Giveaway event. FILLMORE, Calif. – Following the resignation of District 1 Councilmember Luis Rodriguez, the Fillmore City Council has appointed Mario Rodriguez to fill the District 1 vacancy. The appointment took place during the November 12, 2025, City Council meeting. Rodriguez will be officially sworn in at the December 9 City Council meeting and will serve for the remainder of the term through November 2026, when the seat will be open for election. |

![]() Pictured is Fillmore Mayor Villasenor presenting the award of Trunk or Treat 2025 to Second Wave Physical Therapy at last week’s city council meeting held Wednesday, November 12. The 2025 City of Fillmore Trunk or Treat event was a huge success, with several participating organizations noting what appeared to be the highest attendance yet. This year, we had 27 amazing trunks enter the competition, each one showing incredible creativity and Halloween spirit. A total of 275 people cast their votes, making this one of our most competitive years so far. Second Wave Physical Therapy received the most votes and this marks their second year in a row winning the Trunk or Treat Competition! Arriving firefighters reported a trash truck with light smoke showing. Original call to 911 advised the driver was trapped but later confirmed incorrect. According to the National Weather Service Fillmore showed a 5-day total of 5.94”, Piru 5.13”, and Lake Piru 6.78”. Precip.ai/rainfall showed Fillmore 6.91. Ventura County Watershed (see graph) reported 6.47”, bringing the season total to date as of 11/18/25 to 7.94”, with normal to date, 1.98”. VENTURA, Calif. – Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced today that Jose Zavala (DOB 06/13/85), of Fillmore, was convicted by a jury of four felony counts of sexual abuse against two minor victims. Zavala was found guilty of three counts of lewd acts upon a child and one count of continuous sexual abuse. Several special allegations were also found true, including that he took advantage of a position of trust or confidence and that the victims were particularly vulnerable. |
![]() Tuesday, November 11, 2025, was the annual Fillmore-Piru Veteran’s Day celebration on downtown Central Avenue. The Fillmore & Piru communities gathered to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. The Veteran’s Day Parade featured local organizations, Fillmore High School marching band, community groups, and honored veterans. Leading this year’s parade as Grand Marshal was Mark Dominguez, a retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant and interim Fillmore Police Chief and Peace Officer, recognized for his exemplary service to both his country and community. The Annual Veterans Day Ceremony began at 1:30 p.m. This year’s speaker was Fillmore City Councilman and U.S. Navy Veteran John Garnica, who shared a reflection on service, sacrifice, and community. The event remains one of Fillmore’s most cherished traditions, uniting generations in gratitude and remembrance. This year’s event served 130 people. Back in May 2025, the team earned the title of CIF-Southern Section Division 8 Champions in their game against Pioneer High Titans at Blair Field in Long Beach, California, after going extra innings and winning in the bottom of the 8th.
