![]() Tuesday, November 11, 2025, was the annual Fillmore-Piru Veteran’s Day celebration on downtown Central Avenue. The Fillmore & Piru communities gathered to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. The Veteran’s Day Parade featured local organizations, Fillmore High School marching band, community groups, and honored veterans. Leading this year’s parade as Grand Marshal was Mark Dominguez, a retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant and interim Fillmore Police Chief and Peace Officer, recognized for his exemplary service to both his country and community. ![]() Following the Veterans Day Parade a luncheon was held at Fillmore Middle School. The Annual Veterans Day Ceremony began at 1:30 p.m. This year’s speaker was Fillmore City Councilman and U.S. Navy Veteran John Garnica, who shared a reflection on service, sacrifice, and community. The event remains one of Fillmore’s most cherished traditions, uniting generations in gratitude and remembrance. This year’s event served 130 people. ![]() On Friday, November 7, at the FHS Football CIF playoff game against Cerritos High School, a ring ceremony was held for the Boys Flashes Baseball Team. Back in May 2025, the team earned the title of CIF-Southern Section Division 8 Champions in their game against Pioneer High Titans at Blair Field in Long Beach, California, after going extra innings and winning in the bottom of the 8th. ![]() On Friday, November 7, the Fillmore Flashes hosted Cerritos High School in the first round of the CIF Playoffs at 7:00 PM at Flashes Stadium, marking the fourth playoff appearance in the last five seasons. Fillmore Veteran’s Day Grand Marshal Mark Dominguez proudly served his country from November 4, 1965, to November 8, 1968. Mark answered the call to duty by enlisting in the U.S. Army and later volunteering to serve in Vietnam. He was stationed in Germany from 1965 until 1967 in various law enforcement duties and as a training instructor. |
![]() On Friday, October 31st, at 6:21 a.m., Fillmore Police Department, Fillmore City Fire, and AMR Paramedics were dispatched to a collision on Ventura Street at Santa Clara Street. ![]() Fillmore’s downtown Central Avenue was really bustling on Sunday night, November 2nd, for Dia de los Muertos! The festivities started at 3pm and ran until 10pm. Decorative car displays lined the avenue as music and dance filled the air courtesy of Danza Aztecs, Love2 Dance Studio, Mariachi Los Leones, Cosmico, Danza Los Viejitos, Mariachi Los Rayos, La Sentencia Nortena, Danza Oaxaquenas, and Relicho Norteno. Ventura County students are making gains in both math and English language arts, according to the latest scores from the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). The percentage of students countywide who met or exceeded state standards in the 2024-2025 school year is up by 1.3% in math and 1.9% in English. This is the fourth consecutive year of improvement since scores dipped during the pandemic.
