After qualifying at the local PHR competition, 9 year old Sierra Huerta and 9 year old Taylor Brown advanced to the Super Regional that was held on Sunday June 8th in Bellflower, CA.. They participated at the Super Regional Level in the Girls Softball Division of the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & RunTM competition. Allowed the opportunity to showcase their throwing, hitting and running abilities, both girls did a great job representing Fillmore.

The Alumni game was a huge success bringing in $500 to FHS softball. FHS 2008 Team won both games at (over 30) 5-1, (under 30) 1-0. Judy Ortiz (79), pictured above smacked a long single to Left Center. Nicole Ortiz (96) Diana Ibarra (04) and Naomi Qualls (98) had 2 strikeouts each. Brenda Martinez (91) came to the mound to pitch to her daughter. Mary Riesgo (89) pictured left held on to her arm for two innings. Catchers Sally Alvarado (98), Chastity Gongora (99), Cynthia Chessani (88) and Tracy Vaughn (89) still held their own behind the plate. Umpire Frank Lopez called the game as he did for most of these ladies back in the day. Yep, they all still have it! See you next year.

The Fillmore High School Swim Team, lead by Aimee Orozco, competed in the Frontier League Championship swim finals on Friday, May 2nd at Ventura College. The Fillmore varsity girls team placed 4th overall with 150 points. Fillmore varsity boys team was also 4th overall with 126 points. JV girls were 4th and JV boys were 3rd.
Aimee Orozco repeated as Frontier League Champion in both the 50 yd. freestyle and 100 yd. freestyle with best times of 26.63 and 58.37 respectively. Aimee’s times were well under the CIF consideration time standards. All FHS varsity girls placed in the top 12 in at least one individual event: Andie McDonnell – 5th (2:30.13) 200 yd. freestyle & 4th (1:20.31) 100 yd. backstroke; Nicole Sanchez – 6th (3:11.01) 200 yd. Individual Medley & 6th (7:23.78) 500 yd. freestyle; Natalie Garnica – 9th (33.56) 50 yd. freestyle & 4th (1:27.35) 100 yd. breaststroke; Zeynep Erdemir – 10th (34.01) 50 yd. freestyle & 8th (1:36.49) 100 yd. breaststroke; Jazzmin Galvez – 8th (32.67) 50 yd. freestyle & 6th (1:14.63) 100 yd. freestyle. Varsity girls placed 5th in the 200 yd. Medley relay and 4th in the 200 yd. Freestyle relay.
Varsity boys were lead by Shane Ragatz who placed in the top 6th in both his individual events. Shane placed 5th (2:45.73) in the 200 yd. individual medley and 4th (1:19.93) in the 100 yd. breaststroke. All FHS varsity boys placed in the top 12 in at least one individual event: Kelly Bullard – 3rd (2:30.80) 200 yd. freestyle & 10th (1:09.02) 100 yd. freestyle; Andres Casas – 9th (33:00) 50 yd. freestyle & 6th (1:33.51) 100 yd. backstroke; Esteban Casas – 4th (2:35.49) 200 yd. freestyle & 7th (1:20.13) 100 yd. butterfly; Steven Garner – 8th (1:07.89) 100 yd. freestyle & 5th (1:26.06) 100 yd. backstroke. Varsity boys placed 4th in the 200 yd. Medley Relay and 4th in the 200 yd. Freestyle relay.
Megan Louth lead the JV girls with two top six finishes. Megan was 4th (36.32) in the 50 yd. freestyle and 2nd (40.10) in the 50 yd. butterfly. Also placing in the top six were: Stephanie Bolanos – 5th (2:01.64) 100 yd. individual medley; Susan Bolanos – 4th (1:29.92) 100 yd. freestyle. Megan, Stephanie & Susan along with Samantha Mchammel placed 4th in the 200 yd. Medley relay and 3rd in the 200 yd. Freestyle relay.
JV boy Mario Lopez placed second in the 50 yard backstroke (51.75).

 
Sespe Soccer team will be competing in this years July tournament in Acapulco, Mexico. The team has competed this year in an All Star soccer tournament in Acapulco. They played against teams from different countries placing 3rd overall. The team is sponsored by El Pescador owner Jesus “Chuy” Ortiz, standing right.

U-8: Fillmore 1- Oxnard Lions 5, U-10 Fillmore 3- Acatlan 1 Goals Scored by Ricky Lomeli, Tony Castaneda, and Efren Carbajal.
U-12: Fillmore 5 - Oxnard FC 1, Cristian Laureano scored two Goals. Sneyder Gaytan, and Andres Andrade each scored one goal. Franky Chavez assisted on a goal by Diego Rodriguez. Goalkeeper Ricardo Gutierrez made four saves. U-14: Fillmore 11 - Oxnard FC Black- 0. U-16: Fillmore 1- Mexico 3 Goal scored by Jayro Oregon.U18 - did not play.

 

Fillmore High School Athletic Boosters will be holding elections for their 2008-09 Board on Monday, May 5th at 6:30PM at the Hall of Fame, located in the Science Building. If you have an interest in the athletes of Fillmore High School, please consider becoming a board member.

 

Final applications are now being evaluated for the Ten Star All Star Summer Basketball Camp. The Ten Star All Star Summer Basketball Camp is by invitation only. Boys and girls ages 10-19 are eligible to apply. Past participants include: Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter, Jerry Stackhouse, Grant Hill, and Antwan Jamison. Players from 50 states and 10 Foreign Countries attended the 2007 camp. College Basketball Scholarships are possible for players selected to the All-American Team.
