FHS boys soccer team held a tournament this past weekend, twelve teams entered the Heritage Valley JV Boys tourney. Several games were played and the remaining final four teams playing were Fillmore vs. Oak Park and Camarillo vs. Augora. Fillmore beat Oak Park 4-0 with goals by Juan Mariscal and 3 by Alexis Barajas. Augora beat Camarillo 2-0 and advanced to the final to face Fillmore. Camarillo beat Oak Park 1-0 taking 3rd place in the tournament. In the Championship game Fillmore played Agoura, both teams had chances to open up the score but each team played strong defense, not allowing any goals until there was about two minutes left in the second half. Juan Valdovinos scored the winning goal to avoid penalty kicks. First place went to Fillmore, Second Place Augora, and Third Place Camarillo. Last Thursday night Dec. 10th, FHS beat Channel Islands. 50-45 in the opening round of the 59th annual boys’ varsity tournament. Game highlights Chris De La Paz had 11 points and 10 rebounds, James Nelson had 9 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals, Angel Barajas had 9 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. FHS continued in the tournament and played Friday against Carpinteria beating them 57-51, game highlights, Joe Estrella: 14 points, Nelson: 11 points, 5 rebounds, De La Paz: 13 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals
Barajas: 7 points, 10 rebounds. Saturday: Fillmore lost to Oaks Christian 65-51 in tournament finals, finishing second. Corey Cole (named all tournament): 11 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal. De La Paz (named all tournament): 14 points, 9 rebounds. Nelson: 6 points, 6 rebounds. Estrella: 8 points, 4 rebounds. Barajas: 3 points, 7 rebounds.

The Fillmore Condors (aka Southern California Comets) cross-country team members (Javier Barajas Jr., Irma Torres, Thorin Rosten, Daniel Barajas, and Juan Carlos Laureano) qualified for the AAU National Championships this season. On behalf of the coaches (Javier Barajas and Rafael Laureano,) the team and the parents, we would like to thank the sponsors for helping to get the team to Orlando Florida where the AAU National Championships took place.

Congratulations to runners that went to the AAU National Championships!!!

Their final results were:
Javier Barajas Jr., Midget boys, won 3rd place with his team.
Daniel Barajas and Thorin Rosten, Bantam boys, won 1st place with their team.
Juan Carlos Laureano, Primary boys, won 2nd place with his team and placed in the top 25 (19th) as an individual.
Irma Torres, Midget girls, won 4th place with her team.

Paz had 4 touchdowns: two rushing and two receiving, he finished the night with 15 carries for 117 yards.Corey Cole was 5/7 for 146 yards and 4 touchdowns, he also broke the season passing TD record held by Steve Dann set in 1974 at 12, Corey is now at 13 this season. Fillmore’s JV beat Santa Paula 34-0. Fillmore lead in the half 7-0. The offensive & defensive line played well domintaing the line of scrimmage. Anthony Perez, Brandon Pina, Tony Sanchez, Lalo Gomez, Jordan Carrillo and Daniel Cruz did well on the offense line. Collin Farrar, Nathan Garnica, and Mario Hernandez ran the ball successfully. On October 11 & 12, twenty-four swim team members swam at Rio Mesa High School in a meet sponsored by Rio Mesa Swim Club. Swimming from Fillmore were Kyle Popp and Remy Richardson. This was Remy’s first swim meet and he received ribbons in two events: 25 yd. breaststroke – 30.85 (7th) and 25 yd. butterfly – 26.76 (6th). Kyle has best times in two of three events: 50 yd. breaststroke – 48.06 (17th); 100 yd. backstroke – 1:55.95 (14th); and 50 yd. freestyle – 40.81 (23rd).

On October 31st , forty swim team members swam in the Pumpkin Meet at the Pleasant Valley Aquatic Center, sponsored by Pleasant Valley Swim Team. Eleven swimmers from Fillmore did very well even though the Fillmore Aquatic Center has been closed or too cold for practice for the past three weeks. Participating in their first swim meet were: JJ Dietz (9) – 50 yd. backstroke – 1:09.76 (14th); 50 yd. freestyle – 1:01.25 (11th); 50 yd. butterfly – 1:22.18 (6th); 50 yd. breaststroke – 1:17.01 (8th). Alexis Johnston (8) – 50 yd. freestyle – 53.90 (5th); 20 yd. backstroke – 32.57 (5th); 25 yd. freestyle – 23.62 (7th); 25 yd. breaststroke (4th). Natalie Johnston (10) – 50 yd. backstroke – 1:02.12 (8th); 50 yd. freestyle – 54.78 (11th). Paige McKeown (7) – 25 yd. freestyle –42.16 (8th); 25 yd. butterfly – 46.00 (3rd). Also swimming were: Nick Johnson (13) who had three best times in the 100 back -1:34.89 (8th), 100 free – 1:23.37 (12th), and 100 breast – 149.25 (12th).
