Anthony Neil Collins (1955-2019)

On May 25th 2019 Anthony Neil Collins passed after a 1 ½ yearlong battle with prostate cancer. Anthony (Andy) Collins was born October 10th 1955 in Santa Paula, CA and was a lifelong resident of Fillmore. He attended Fillmore High School where he met his partner, soulmate and love of his life Mary Ann Whisnant Collins. He spent his lifetime working in the oil production industry from drilling new production wells to managing and maintaining oil production leases. Andy enjoyed riding motorcycles, operating off road vehicles, mechanics, customizing firearms, crafting parts and custom tools with his CNC machines, the outdoors and most of all spending time with his close friends and family. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, PBR and also an active member of the NRA. Andy has joined his mother Anita Beeler Nunez and father Arthur Collins in eternal life. He is survived by his wife Mary, brother Jeff (Paula), sister Jeanie (Richard), son Rodney (Renae), daughter Tracy (Andrew), and grandchildren Michael, Hayley, Madison, and Taylor.
Family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life Service at Faith Community Church, 355 D St. Fillmore on Saturday, June 15th at 10:00 am. A reception will immediately follow at Britt Park, 3824 Guiberson Rd, Piru.

Jose Luis Lopez Martinez (1951-2019)

Jose Luis Lopez Martinez was born on October 28, 1951 in Agua de Obispo, Mexico. The ranch was located between San Juan De Los Lagos and Lagos de Moreno. He was one of ten children and an identical twin. In 1967 Jose moved to Fillmore, CA and met the love of his life Antonia Avila. Jose and Antonia were married on August 31, 1974. They had four children followed by six grandchildren. He took great pride in his grandchildren and all of their athletic accomplishments. Jose looked forward to watching his grandson's baseball and football games. He most of all looked forward to his granddaughter's annual cheerleading competitions in Las Vegas.
Jose was known around town as "cuate" along with his twin brother Pancho. Many people knew him for the love he had for his cars, especially his 1969 Red Shelby Cobra. Everyone knew Jose for his colorful vocabulary and sense of humor. He always liked to reminisce about his days at the ranch and all the mischief he would get into with his siblings. As a teenager, he loved heading to central avenue for his po' boy sandwiches at the local pool hall. Jose's favorite pastime throughout his life in Fillmore were weekend drives around town, through Kenny's Grove Park, the Ventura Beach and Lake Piru. He loved having all of his children and grandchildren together. Jose took joy in giving red roses to his loved ones in celebration of special events. Jose peacefully passed away on June 4, 2019 surrounded by his loving family as he wished.
He was preceded in death by his Parents: Mario and Juanita; Son: Jos0e Luis Jr.; Sisters: Hortencia Vasques and Enedina Lopez; Brother: Genaro Lopez.
Jose is survived by his wife of 44 years, Antonia Lopez; 3 Daughters: Angel Lopez; Monica Lopez and Alyssa Ruiz. Sisters: Amelia Romo; Graciela Elizondo (husband Kiko); Angelica Gonzales (husband Efrain); Martha Barajas (husband Alejandro). Brothers: Enrique Lopez (wife Didi); Francisco Lopez (wife Blanca).
A rosary will be recited at 7:00pm on Thursday, June 20th, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1048 West Ventura Street in Fillmore, California. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Friday, June 21st, 2019 at St. Francis Of Assisi Church in Fillmore, California. Interment to follow at Bardsdale Cemetery, 1698 South Sespe Street in Fillmore, California.

Laqueta Ann Hicks (1941-2019)

Laqueta Ann Hicks passed away on May 10th, 2019 at the age of 78. Laqueta fought a long hard battle with Multiple Myeloma cancer with her family by her side. She has been called to be with her parents and is no longer in pain, and she is at peace.
She is survived by two sons, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren and her two adored Yorkies.
Laqueta was loved by all and had a love for everyone around her. She will be missed by all.
A “Celebration of life” will be held on June 8th, 2019 at 11am at “Church of Christ”, 219 Mountain View St., Fillmore Ca, off the Highway 126. A Potluck luncheon will follow.

Wanda Fletcher-Cummings (1937-2018)

On Saturday, September 8, 2018, Wanda Fletcher-Cummings, loving wife, and mother to eight children, was welcomed into Heaven at 81 years of age, due to heart complications.
Wanda was born on June 11, 1937 in Watts, OK to Clinton and Marie (Floyd) Fletcher. While growing up, the family moved back and forth from Oklahoma to California many times. Finally settling in California where Wanda in 1955, graduated from Fillmore High School and married James Cummings.
Over the years Wanda worked at various jobs and finally retired from the Fillmore Convalescent Center, she loved working with all of the patients while in Housekeeping, She was a big Elvis fan and had a collection of memorabilia. In retirement she loved traveling by Greyhound bus to visit her daughters and all the grandkids!
Wanda was preceded in death by her father, Clinton, and mother Marie. Her husband James Cummings and their children: Brenda, Donna, Vickie, Wesley, and little Jamie, son-in-law Steve Bass.
She is survived by Son-In-Law, Gary (Brenda) Cone, of Fillmore, CA, Judy (Steve) Bass of Las Vegas, NV, Eva (Philip) Walston, Calara, OK, Audrey Gonzalez, Durant, OK, and her sister, Debbie Thompson, of Fillmore, CA. She had nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
The funeral service will be this Friday, May 31, 2019 at First Baptist Church 1057 First Street at 1:00 p.m.

Jose Q. Cobian (1937-2019)

It is with great pain and sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved father Jose Quiles Cobian who went home to be with our lord with his family by his side. He was born March 8, 1937 in Rancho Los Gonzales, Jalisco, Mexico and passed away peacefully at Ventura County Medical Center on May 14, 2019.
Jose was employed as a field worker for several years upon arriving to the United States. He then moved to Fillmore Ca. and was employed at Robinson & Lamey in Piru Ca. and later worked at Mr. Spa in Newbury Park Ca. Jose then retired from Ventura Pacific as a night watchman. Upon retirement Jose very much enjoyed spending his time at the Fillmore Senior school farm where he met and developed many friendships with other seniors who shared the same interests. He planted and grew many fruits and vegetables that he proudly would share with family, friends, and neighbors. Once his grandkids began attending Fillmore Middle School he proudly volunteered and started the school garden where he planted many vegetables and rose bushes. He began volunteering in 2011 until his unexpected passing.
His favorite hobbies in his earlier years consisted of training horses, deer hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed working on cars and caring for his home garden and the many birds in his backyard.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Rosa Maria, his parents Manuel and Aurora Cobian, and his sisters Rosario and Maria Cobian. Jose is survived by his daughter Maria R. Estrada (Michael), sons Jose J. Cobian (Martha) and Arturo Cobian. Jose has 5 beautiful grandchildren, Michael Joseph Estrada Jr., Vanessa Nicole Estrada, Johnny JR. Cobian, Yanelli Marie Cobian, and Natalie Rose Cobian. He is also survived by 6 brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the trauma team and ICU doctors and nurses that assisted in his care at Ventura County Medical Center. We would like to thank all family and friends that visited during his stay in the ICU.
A rosary will be recited at 9:30a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2019 followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Fillmore. Interment to follow at Bardsdale Cemetery in Fillmore.

Billie McMahan (1935-2019)

Billie McMahan, 84, passed away April 26, 2019 after a short illness in Ventura California.
Billie was born September 16, 1934 in St. Clair County, Alabama to Eve and Grady Griffith. She was the youngest of four children, three girls and one boy.
She married J.R (Junior) McMahan, they raised three children and were blessed with three grandchildren, just this year her sixth great grand child was born.
In 1961 the family moved to Coalinga, California from Ragland Alabama, she was always very busy with a family of three young children during these years. The family moved to Ventura in 1968 and later resided in Fillmore for over thirty years, later in life she moved back to Ventura.
One of her greatest joys in life was her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren who she loved to shower with attention.
In addition to raising her family Billie was very active in her church and with her career in accounting. She always prided herself on being well dressed and a gracious hostess.
Billie is survived by her sister Mary Joe Douglas of Alabama; daughter, Lynne Rayburn (John) of Mission Viejo, California, son, Barry McMahan (Paula), Houston Texas, son, Michael McMahan (David Schwabauer), Moorpark California, three grand-daughters, Kinsie, Heidi and Megan and six great grand-children.
A service will be held May 9, 2019, at 10:30 AM Bardsdale Cemetery, Skillen-Carrol Mortuary, Fillmore, is in charge of the service.
The family wishes to extend their personal thanks to Jean, her care giver of these past six years. She has gone above and beyond in the level of compassion and care she has given to our mother.

Fred Eugene Carpenter, Jr. (1936-2019)

Fred Eugene Carpenter, Jr. joined his father, mother and younger brother, Craig, in heaven on April 27, 2019 at the age of 82. Fred, or Freddie, as some in his family still call him, was born on September 19, 1936 to Fred, Sr. and Thelma Carpenter. The birth took place in their home on Mountain View in Fillmore, California.
Fred was raised on the Leavens-Goodenough Ranch between Fillmore and Piru where his father worked. He was taught from the very beginning that the Bible is where the truth about life and God are found and that eternity with God only comes through faith in Jesus Christ.
Fred was a gifted athlete who played football, baseball and basketball at Fillmore High School. In those days, the Fillmore Flashes competed against much larger schools than they were, and yet their successful sports programs in the 1950's were known to defeat these teams.
On November 18, 1956, Fred married Evelyn Welchhance. They raised three children in the same Christian environment in which they had been raised themselves. Fred became a certified land surveyor, and after years working in the field, he spent most of his career as a partner at Benner and Carpenter Civil Engineering and Land Surveying in Santa Paula, California.
But more than the events and achievements, what was most significant about Fred was who he was. His positive and friendly personality won the hearts of people of all ages throughout his life. Those blessed to be family members received steadfast support, encouragement and wisdom, as well as unconditional love from him. Fred's family is grateful to all those who brightened his life over the years. We know that he appreciated each and every one of you.
Fred is survived by his brother, Larry Carpenter (Jeannie), daughters Terri Nevlin (Rick), Tracy Hackney (Chuck), son Matthew Carpenter, grandchildren, Brandon (Belinda), David and Gordon Griffith (Grace), Ryan Hackney, Elyse Patierno (Mark), and six great-grandchildren, Luke, Micah, Josiah and Rachel Griffith, and Nicholas and Sammy Hackney. Over the last ten years, Fred enjoyed the devoted companionship of Louella Hoover. We are all deeply thankful for the gift of Fred's life. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, June 1, at 11:00am at Faith Community Church's location on the corner of First Street and Central Avenue in Fillmore.

James Evans Balden (1934-2019)

On Friday, April 26, 2019, James Evans Balden, age 84, passed away after a two year battle with ALS. James was born June 14, 1934 in Santa Paula, CA. He graduated from Fillmore High School, and enlisted in the Army in 1953, during the Korean War. After completion of his basic training, he received the American Spirit Honor Medal for outstanding qualities of leadership best expressing the American spirit—honor, initiative, loyalty, and a high example to comrades in arms. He went on to have an illustrious 40 year career as a television camera operator and director, including winning 3 Emmys. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who was always there to brighten the lives of others with his renowned sense of humor. Jim was preceded in death by his son Kerry Balden and his great-grandson, William Balden. He is survived by his wife Elaine Balden, children: Patrick Balden, Laura Clauson (Steve), Michael Balden, Alana Balden, Skyla Nouri (Danny),11 grandchildren: Matthew Balden, Ryan Balden (Wyndi), Tarah Burley (Logan), Kerry James Balden, Shea Balden, Jared Autrey (Jessica), Travis Autrey (Hailee), Malorie White (Mike), Codi Autrey (Evelyn), Ty Autrey, Marisa Wessel (Jonathan) and 15 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 7th, 2019 at 11:00 am at 1017 First Street, Fillmore, CA 93015. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the ALS Association Golden West chapter in Jim’s name.

Luis M. Luna, Jr. (1963-2019)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, Luis M. Luna Jr., who died from stroke complications on April 26, 2019. Luis was born on April 14, 1963 to Alice & Luis M. Luna Sr. in Santa Paula, California.
Luis graduated from Fillmore High School in 1981. He then enlisted in the Marine Corps & was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Luis was an Equipment Engineer. Luis later moved to Los Angeles where he would sometimes counsel his fellow veterans.
Luis was preceded in death by his father Luis M. Luna, Sr. & his mother Alice Luna.
Luis is survived by his daughter Heaven Luna; his siblings, Danny (Lori) Luna, Eddie (Ana) Luna, Josie (Alfred) Valles, Andrew (Yenira) Luna; nephews & nieces, Johnny, Michael and Julie Luna, Diego & Yvette Valles, Andrew and Alonzo Luna.
Our family would like to thank Christine Luna for all the care & support she gave Luis in the past 6 years. We would also like to thank Natasha Green & the many others at the VA of Los Angeles that helped Luis along the way. Your kindness & assistance are greatly appreciated. Goodbye brother, rest in peace, you will be forever in our hearts.

Francisco “Pancho” Gonzales (1946-2019)

Francisco “Pancho” Gonzales passed away from a lengthy illness on April 18, 2019. Francisco was born on November 02, 1946 in Ventura, California to Maximo and Victoria Gonzales and was a lifelong resident of Piru. He was a 1966 graduate of Fillmore High School. Francisco was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving the majority of his time in Thailand. When Francisco was discharged from the army, he worked for various aerospace manufacturers in Southern California. He was also a reserve officer with the Fillmore Police Department.
Francisco is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria “Punkin” Gonzales, parents Maximo & Victoria Gonzales, sisters Teresa James and Molly Espinoza. He is survived by his son, Frank (Denise) of Hight Point, North Carolina and daughter, Francine (Herman) Alfaro of Bakersfield, California. He was a proud grandparent to 5 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Francisco is also survived by his sisters, Lucy Godinez, Carolyn Jimenez, Evelyn Gonzales, Maxie Gonzales, and Victoria Gonzales as well as many nieces, nephews, and family members.
A special thank you to his sister, Victoria Gonzales, for her care during his illness.
Funeral Services for Francisco will be held at San Salvador Mission Parish on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 11:00AM beginning first with the recitation of the rosary and followed immediately with the Funeral Mass. Inurnment will then follow at Piru Cemetery.

Carolyn Blanche Anderson Amrhine Lasky (1922-2019)

Carolyn Lasky passed away peacefully in her home in Fillmore, CA on March 31st. She lived in Fillmore for 74 years, and was involved in the Ventura Orchid Society, Ventura County Garden Club, the Fillmore Senior Center as well as the Santa Paula Hospital Auxiliary, where she accumulated over 7000 volunteer hours. An avid gardener, she was always proud of her roses, orchids, and green goddess calla lilies, and loved to share them with others in her community. She is survived by her two daughters, Linda and Roberta, her six grandchildren, Brian, Brad, Toni, Jamie, Lisa, and Greg, and her 11 great grandchildren. She had many friends in Fillmore and will be sorely missed by all. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 13th, at Trinity Church, 608 Saratoga Street, in Fillmore from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.

Irene Sylvia Tello (1936-2019)

Irene Sylvia Tello, age 83, of Fillmore, California passed away peacefully on Friday March 29, 2019. Irene was born March 3, 1936 in Santa Paula, California to Augustine and “Chita” Guevara.
Irene was a loving mother and wife. She spent her life taking care of her children and family. She enjoyed attending grandkids sporting events. She also loved playing softball, baking, gardening, sewing and camping.
Irene is survived by; son Michael Tello; daughter Cynthia Enriquez (Felipe); son David Tello (Ofelia); and son Don Tello (Natalie); grandson Aaron Tello, grandson Gabriel Enriquez (Stephanie), granddaughter Rebecca Morton (Daniel), grandson Daniel Enriquez (April), grandson Joseph Tello, grandson Jacob Tello, grandson Matthew Tello, granddaughter Taylor Tello, granddaughter Miley Tello and 6 great grandchildren.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Joe Tello; granddaughter Katie and Andrea Tello; daughter-in-law Diane Tello and parents Augustine and "Chita" Guevara.
A visitation for Irene will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2019 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM with Rosary at 7:00PM at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 600 Central Ave, Fillmore, CA 93015. Funeral mass will occur Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at10:00AM at St Francis of Assisi Church, 1048 Ventura St, Fillmore, CA 93015. Raelene I. Chaney (1929-2019)

Raelene Chaney, a long-time resident of Fillmore, passed away April 7th in her home surrounded by loved ones at the age of 90. After a short battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma, she has now joined her beloved husband Robert Chaney in Heaven.
Raelene was born in 1929 in Yelm, WA and was a graduate of Big Bear High School. Although she had a full and busy life, her life didn’t truly begin until 1964, when a big city girl moved to a small town called Fillmore. Robert & Raelene then adopted two beautiful girls, Chris-Anne in 1966 and Susan in 1969, to bring more light and joy into their lives. Raelene worked for the school district in many different capacities but was best known for being a campus supervisor. You could hear her yelling, “Don’t make me write you up, get to class NOW!” She did this for about nine years and then became the supervisor for In-School Suspensions for another five years. Even though she was a tough cookie, she loved her students like they were her children.
From the moment she stepped foot in Fillmore, Raelene was involved in many community projects and groups, including the Ebell & Optimist clubs, just to name a few. She helped start the FHS Soccer Club, raised money for her daughters' softball team, and even helped one of her students go to the Fiji Islands to run Cross Country. She participated in the annual Flower shows, bike rodeos and over the last few years volunteered at the Wednesday Food Share program.
After the towns devastating loss of a high school senior on graduation night, Raelene co-founded Grad Nite Live in 1990. Raelene and her husband Bob along with several Fillmore residents, worked with local businesses for donations. In later years, the Grad Nite Live Thanksgiving pie sale was born. Seniors sold pies to pay for a dinner cruise so they could have a safe, sober, and fun graduation night experience.
She was best known for driving around in her “Put Put” yelling, “Did you order your pies?” (therefore becoming “The Pie Lady”) which we’re sure you can hear even now. From an overnight dinner cruise to an early morning breakfast at Carl’s Jr., great memories were had by all.
Raelene also received the Making a Difference for Women & Citizen of the Year awards. Then in May of 2018, she was bestowed with Fillmore’s highest honor by receiving Fillmore’s “Lifetime Achievement, Citizen of the Year” award.
She has impacted so many people throughout her long life because she was always the life of the party and loved by everyone who met her.
Raelene’s greatest pride and joy were her six grandchildren, of whom she loved to no end. All of the kids helped her in some way with Grad Nite Live.
She attended all their sports games, picked them up from school, helped them with homework, and taught them to drive in her “Put Put” car.
Raelene leaves behind: Chris-Anne Barker, Susan (Patrick) Golson and Grandchildren: Tenea, Brandon, Zach, Johnny, Samantha, and Tyler. She leaves behind an incredible legacy that her family is proud of. She was a phenomenal woman who will be truly missed but will forever live on in our hearts.
A very special thank you to our Angels at Los Robles Hospice. We would have been lost without you.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, April 18th 10a.m. at Faith Community Church: 355 D St., Fillmore, followed by a graveside service at Bardsdale Cemetery: 1698 S Sespe St., Bardsdale. Reception to follow and will be announced at service.

Sofia Martinez (March 2019)

On Monday, March 18, 2019, our mom went to be with her Lord and Savior. Mom was born in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco Mexico. She was known as “Mami Sofia” by her family. She moved to Mexico City where she met her love Alfonso Martinez. They soon married and went to live in, Fillmore, CA.
Mami Sofia accepted Jesus Christ into her heart and soon was involved in the church she attended. In the latter part of her life, she assisted by leading the songs at the church. She loved to sing. She worked at Deeter’s Turkey Ranch then went to work at Saticoy Lemon Association until retirement. Mami Sofia was preceded in passing by her husband Alfonso “Papi Goliat” Martinez and her grandson David Martinez.
She is survived by her loving children: Alma (Jose) Sandoval; Alfonso (Delia) Martinez; Connie (Salvador) Loera; Carlos (Dolores) Martinez, 16 grandchildren and Greatgrandchildren.
The family would like to thank with all our hearts the staff at Oxnard Manor for the loving care they provided and also the staff at Graceful Care Hospice. We will never forget you and God Bless you all.
There will be visitation on April 4th at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary from 6 to 8 pm, for family and friends. Celebration of life will be held on April 5th at 10am to 11:30am at Faith Community Church, 461 Central Ave. Graveside service will follow.

Homer Smith Ezell (1932-2019)

Homer Smith Ezell, age 86, passed away on March 20, 2019 at his home in Enoch, Utah. He was born on April 1, 1932 in Clarksville, Tennessee to Leroy and Eura Green Ezell. Homer attended schools in his home town of Clarksville, Tennessee. During the Korean conflict he served in the US Air force.
He married Gloria Gail Jump on December 1, 1960 in Santa Paula, California. He met Gloria when he was a boarder at her grandmother’s boarding house. Homer was employed in the Citrus Industry for more than 35 years. He worked at Ojai Orange Assn., Ojai Tapo Citrus, Irvine Valencia Growers and Retired from Fillmore-Piru Citrus Association after 18 years of service as Plant Superintendent of the Fillmore Packing House.
Homer was raised Church of Christ. He loved photography and hiking. He will be missed by those who loved him.
Homer was is survived by his wife Gloria and his daughter Connie Marie (James) Reidmiller of California and 3 wonderful grandchildren Christopher, Megan and Joey as well as his sister Mitzi Sudeath of Texas.
He is receded in death by his parents and four siblings.
Service will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 1:00pm in Enoch City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.

Dorothy Ramona Sandoval (1941-2019)

Dorothy Ramona Sandoval went home to be with the good Lord and her parents on the morning of March 17, 2019. She was a lifelong resident of Fillmore and a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Dorothy was born May 2, 1941 in Fillmore to Raymond and Mary Morales.
She attended the local elementary schools and in high school she was a popular classmate and a cheerleader who proudly represented her school. In 1959 she graduated from Fillmore High School.
Soon after high school she married Joe Sandoval and together they had three beautiful children which were her pride and joy.
Dorothy worked many years at the Saticoy Lemon Packing House in Fillmore. Later she went on to work at The Foxboro Company in Valencia until the closing of the plant. She was also a primary caregiver for her parents until their resting days which was her promise to them.
Dorothy loved gardening, as everyone could see by the pride she took in her yard. Taking 1st place in Candy Cane Lane on Cook Drive, back in the days along with Yard of the Month. She loved working in the home whether it be painting, decorating, sewing, crocheting or embroidery. Some people were fortunate enough to receive her handmade crafts.
She was known for her sense of fashion. She always had her hair and makeup done, her nails perfectly manicured and didn't leave the house without looking glamorous whether she was running errands or going out for a special occasion. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Once she had grandchildren and great grandchildren she loved visiting with them especially on holidays.
She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Mary Morales, infant sister Arsenia and brother. Dorothy is survived by her children, Joseph, Crystal and Anthony Sandoval, sister Linda Alba, grandchildren Jonathan (Nikki) and Jenna Sandoval, David (Nicole) Valenzuela and Alex (Mandy) Valenzuela, Great-grandchildren Nathan and Alexis Valenzuela, Riley and Brandon Valenzuela, Jurae and Robinson Sandoval along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services for Dorothy will be Wednesday, March 27th at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1048 Ventura Street, Fillmore, CA beginning with the recitation of the rosary at 10:00 AM and followed immediately with a Funeral Mass. A reception immediately following in the church hall.

Terri Ann Hastings (1944-2019)

Terri was born Terri Ann Myers December 26, 1944 in Fillmore, Ca. Terri passed away peacefully February 12, 2019 in Santa Paula Ca. surrounded by her family. Terri graduated from Fillmore High School and was named Miss Fillmore in 1962. She graduated from Beauty school and began her career as a Beautician in 1963.
Terri married her high school sweet heart Mike Hastings in 1964 and they spent 51 years together until Mikes passing in 2015.They were lifelong residents of Fillmore, where Terri owned and operated Terri’s beauty salon for approximately 40 years.
Terri was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Peggy Myers husband Mike and her daughter DeAnna. Terri is survived by her son Derrik his wife Michelle, grandchildren Charlie, Jordyn and Griffin Hastings. Joslyn Spieler and Falisha Lemmon. Brother James Myers his wife Janet, niece Melanie Hazlett, Sister in law Nancy Bowlin, nephew Chip Bowlin and many other family members and friends.
No services will be held as was her request.

Mary Tovar (1933-2019)

Mary Tovar, age 86, of Fillmore, CA, formerly a long-time resident of Newhall, CA, passed away peacefully at home on March 9th, 2019. Mary was born on August 15th, 1933 in Madera, CA. She lived in Los Angeles and Torrance, CA before settling Newhall in 1969 to raise her family.
Mary was a devoted wife to her late husband Eddie Tovar. She was a beloved mother to six children, Edward Tovar, Micheal Tovar, Candy Tovar, Cyndie Plummer, Teddy Tovar, and Romona Tovar. She was a much loved grandmother and great-grandmother to 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mary was a retired butcher, an amazing cook, a story teller, a friend, an artist and a devoted Catholic. She cared for her husband and family for more than 60 years. Her house was always filled with the aroma of her cooking. Her extraordinary nature was a gift that will be missed by all that knew her.
Family and friends will gather at St Francis of Assisi Church in Fillmore, CA on March 20th, 2019 at 12:30 for the Rosary followed by a funeral Mass at 1:00pm. She will be interned the following day, March 21st, 2019 in Madera, CA at Calvary Cemetery.

Frieda Ruth Garcia (1959-2019)

Dear family and friends, our beloved Frieda entered into Heaven on Sunday, March 10th, caressed by her devoted mother Viola and nieces Tina and Selena by her side; she carries with her the love of her father and mother, and all of her family members and close friends. “Just as I was with Moses, so I will not leave you or forsake you.” Joshua 1:5
Frieda Ruth Garcia was born on October 22, 1959, to Viola and Louie Garcia. She was raised with her six siblings in Fillmore and attended the local elementary schools and high school. While at Fillmore High, she joined the marching band and learned how to play the clarinet.
She graduated from Fillmore High in 1977 and continued her education at College of the Canyons in Valencia where she enrolled in interior art and design. It was her natural creativeness that drew her to interior design and later floral design. While attending school, she was hired to work at Flowers by Richard. It was there that she developed her skills and talent in the industry.
In 1991, the Floral Gallery opened on highway 126, Frieda being the proud owner. She designed lovely arrangements and held floral classes for local residents. Frieda loved spending time with her nieces and nephews; with her close friends, she traveled to places like Hawaii and Mexico. You are deeply missed by all, but we are content in knowing that you are flying with the Angels in Heaven.
A rosary and mass will be held to honor of our loved one on Thursday, March 21st, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church 1048 Ventura St. in Fillmore, burial to follow at Bardsdale Cemetery. The Garcia family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Buena Vista Hospice Care for their compassion and support.

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness, that our loved one “JJ” Topete of Piru, went to be with our Lord on February 26th, 2019.
It comforts us to know that the good Lord wrapped his loving arms around “JJ” and said come with me son and led him to paradise.
JJ was born on August 2, 1973 in Santa Paula Ca. At the time of his death, he lived in Piru, Ca.
JJ leaves behind his grieving mother Denise Ruiz Topete and father Jesse Topete; sisters Carolyn (Frank) Lozano, Mary Topete, Alyssa (Michael) Boschee; nephews Jared, Justin, Jacob Lozano, Nicholas Villanueva, and Sebastian Roberts; nieces Shyann Villanueva, and Irie Jessie Topete. He also leaves behind his maternal grandmother, Consuelo Ortega Ruiz; Tio’s and Tia’s, too numerous to mention.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Jimmy N. Ruiz; paternal grandparents Andres Topete; and Maria De Jesus Topete, and Uncle Lonnie Kenneth Ruiz.
JJ was employed by Recreational Resource Management where he worked for 4 years out of Lake Piru, Ca, most recently doing various side jobs, whether it be gardening, or tending horses at Dominguez Ranch in Piru Canyon. He also for a time worked at Phil’s Animal Rentals of Piru.
JJ was a very humble human being with a heart of gold as big as you can imagine. Whether his back was hurting him, he’d still help you even it was vigorous just to get the job done.
He would take the shirt off his back or give you his last bite to eat, or give you his last dollar if you needed it more than him.
In all my years, I’ve never known my nephew to have a mean bone in his body, be rude, or to be a fighter. JJ was a very soft spoken guy. There were times he would tell me, “Tia, I’m a lover not a fighter,” and laugh that little chuckle of his, and oh so true are those words.
JJ will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Jay, I pray that you are looking down on us and know how much you are loved by so many, and their love, prayers, and support are being showered upon your family.
Jay, you were truly a free spirit, rest easy Mijo and keep smiling that beautiful smile you have. Love your family.
Celebration of life will be held at San Salvador Church in Piru, on Saturday, March 16, 2019. Rosary beginning at 10:00 a.m. funeral mass immediately after Rosary.
Reception to follow in the church hall.
