Fillmore High School Students Playing in the Ventura County All-Star Basketball Game! Three players from Fillmore High School have been selected to play in the Ventura County All-Star basketball game this Friday at Ventura High School!! Rebecca Herrera, Aimee Orozco and Noah Aguirre will represent FHS – girls’ game starts at 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys’ game. Come support your Fillmore All-Stars!

 

Fillmore Youth Football would like to invite those interested in being a coach or an assistant coach, to attend our next board meeting. This is the meeting that coaches are voted in, so it is important to attend or make contact with Jorge Bonilla @ 795-5951 prior to that evening. The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 28th @ 6:30 p.m. at 998 Arrasmith Lane. Hope to see you there!

FHS Swim Team competed in the Frontier League Swim prelims and finals on May 6th and May 8th at Villanova Prep. Varsity Boys placed 3rd at the Championships in a best ever finish. Varsity girls were fifth and JV girls placed forth.

Aimee Orozco had an outstanding meet. She was Frontier League champion in the 100 yd. freestyle for the third year in a row. Her time (58.19) is a new team record and was a CIF automatic time which earns her the opportunity to complete in the Div. IV CIF Swimming Championships in Long Beach on Tuesday, May 12. Aimee was second in the 50 yd. freestyle (26.85 – CIF consideration time) with another new team record.

Other outstanding swims by Varsity Girls include: Megan Louth - 100 yd. butterfly (6th); Jazzmin Galvez – 50 yd. freestyle (10th) & 100 yd. Freestyle (6th); Julianne Sandoval – 100 yd. freestyle (10th) & 100 yd. breaststroke (10th); Natalie Garnica – 100 yd. breaststroke (8th); Andie McDonnell – new school record in the 100 yd. backstroke (8th) of 1:13.77 & 200 yd. freestyle (7th).

The varsity boys team had solid performances by: Kelly Bullard – 200 yd. freestyle (7th); Esteban Casas – 200 yd. freestyle (6th) & 100 yd. butterfly (6th); Hans Bergkamp – 50 yd. freestyle (11th) & 100 yd. freestyle (11th); Shane Ragatz – 50 yd. freestyle (7th) & 100 yd. breaststroke (4th); Ryder Bush – 100 yd. butterfly (5th) & 100 yd. backstroke (5th); Steven Garner – 100 breaststroke (5th).

JV Girls did well against very strong teams from Villanova, Nordhoff & Santa Clara. Carina Sandford was a double finalist – 100 yd. individual medley (5th) and 50 yd. butterfly (3rd); Yvonne Lomeli – 50 yd. butterfly (2nd); Susan Bolanos – 50 yd. freestyle (6th); Samantha Mchammel participated in both relays and Samantha Wu was a relay alternate.

Six out of seven FHS swim team relays came away with season best times.

 
Fillmore Girls Softball & T-Ball held the First Annual Mason Dollar Tournament at Shiells Park. Eight t-ball team and six mini-sox teams competed in the event. The tournament was played during the week and the championship game was held on Saturday, May 2. During closing ceremonies David and Susan Dollar, grandparents of Mason, handed out medals to the first place teams. Flashes varsity softball is finishing strong with two wins this week. Thursday, May 7th Kellsie McLain pitched a shut out against Santa Clara beating them 13-0. Kellsie was only 1 hit away from pitching a perfect game with no walks, no runs and giving up only 1 hit. Everybody in the line up contributed with either a hit or an RBI. Heidi Hinklin got 3 hits, 1 being a double, Jazmyn Alvary hit a Home Run and a double, Amanda Alamillo and Torey Perez each got 2 hits.

On Tuesday, May 12th the flashes beat La Reina 7-5. Brianna Martinez took the mound for the game giving up only 4 hits to a very strong opponent. The girls bats really showed up getting a total of 11 hits. Nadia Lomeli went 3-3 with a Home Run and a double, Kellsie McLain had 2 hits, Heidi Hinklin had a double, Jazmyn Alvary, Erica Rodriquez, Samone Vega, Amanda Alamillo, and Torey Perez each had a hit.

The girls play their last league game Thursday, May 14th against St. Bonnie, in Ventura.

The Fillmore High School Girls Varsity Softball team will be hosting the annual Alumni fundraiser game on Saturday, May 23rd. Each participant is asked to donate $25 dollars which includes a t-shirt. We will be having the 30 & over game at 10am and the 29 & under game at 12pm. Anyone interested in participating should contact Liz Hinklin at (805) 905-9742 or by email at klrhkhink@cs.com.

 

AYSO Soccer Registration will be held on the following dates: 5/16/09 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, 5/20/09 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, 5/30/09 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. PLACE: Boys and Girls Club 561 First St (behind Memorial Bldg) Fee:$85.00 per child. Birth Certificate is required for ALL players @ registration.

 
This past weekend AYSO’s 14 & Under soccer team brought home the championship trophie. The tournament was held in Bakersfield. The boys played 5 games in 2 days. In pool play Fillmore beat Bakersfield 7-0, Porterville 4-1, another team from Bakersfield 10-1. In the semifinals Fillmore beat Lancaster 6-1. Fillmore beat Porterville 2-0 for the championship. The players families and friends were all there to cheer them on. The boys would liked to thank George Benz and the Law office of George Benz for helping sponsor the tournament. They would also like thank San Cayetano Principal Jan Marholin for her support. Pictured

On Thursday, April 30th the ladies held their own against the first place team in the Tri Valley league, Oak Park. They lost 5-0 but played solid softball. Kellsie McLain did a great job on the mound holding this good hitting team to only 5 runs. Our defense was also solid recording no errors. Getting our only three hits of the game were Heidi Hinklin, Nadia Lomeli, and Amanda Alamillo. On Monday, May 4th we played Grace Bretheran in a non league game beating them 15-5 in 6 innings. Brianna Martinez was on the mound with Lorraine Duran cataching for her. Both ladies were solid in their positions. Our bats decided to show up for this game with every girl in the line up contributing offensively. Hinklin went 4-5 with 2 RBI’s, Erica Rodriquez went 3-3 with an RBI, Samone Vega, and Martinez went 2-4 each with an RBI, Lomeli and Alamillo went 2-4, McLain had 3 RBI’s, Kelsey MacDonald had a hit with an RBI, and Jazmyn Alvary had a hit. The Ladies are nearing the end of their season and look forward to a strong finish.

 

The National High School Skateboard Association will be holding the second competition for region #1 at the Fillmore Skate Park this Saturday. Fillmore has its own skate team which will be competing in this event. Please come and support our local skate team.
The skate park will be CLOSED to all public skating during this competition. All spectators are welcome! Come and check out all 20 teams from the southern region. Competition begins at 2:00pm

Ventura County Badgers vs. California Blue Knights Football game was held Saturday, May 2nd at Newbury Park High School.
Former Fillmore Flashes, Tim Godfrey, Jessey Hurtado, Christopher McKinnon and Adrian Jimenez played for the Ventura Co. Sheriff Badgers. Adrian #12 FB/LB, Jessey #13 FB/LB, Chris #6 Wide Receiver, Tim #2 Safety.
The Pride Bowl organization donates all proceeds of the games to charity. Some of the past proceeds have been given to the Make a Wish Foundation, Cops n Jocks, Senior Survival Services, Police Activities League, Boys and Girls Clubs, California Peace Officers Memorial Fund, and Ventura County Special Olympics.
The proceeds from this year’s Pride Bowl Association will go to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Ventura County. Pride Bowl organization began in 1982. Ventura Co. Badgers won 20-0....good job guys!

 

The high school athletic department needs your support and encourages you to join the FHS athletic booster club. This group supports athletics for all of the athletic teams featured at the High School. Without an active and support driven Booster Club we cannot improve, introduce, or even maintain existing athletic programs offered at Fillmore High School. Please consider serving as a Booster Club board member for the 2009/2010 term. An election to select next year’s board will be held Monday, May 11 at 6:30 P.M. at Fillmore High School, Hall of Fame, located in the Science Building.
