 Ventura County Sheriff's Department Location: Danielson Monument Trail, Ventura County, Ca. (V)ictim: 5 Juveniles City of residence: Ventura County, Ca On 11-7-09, five juveniles went hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains National Park for the day. They took the Danielson Monument Trail to the top of Boney Mountain. Towards the end of the day they began their hike down the trail to the trailhead. As they descended, the hikers realized they could not make it back before dark. In addition, they were disoriented and not sure they were even hiking on the right trail. One of the juveniles called her parents and told them the situation. The parents then called the Sheriff's Department for assistance. The Ventura County Sheriff's Department rescue helicopter, Air Squad 8, was given the information and dispatched to the area. While enroute, they called one of the juveniles using a satellite phone in the helicopter. The juvenile directed Air Squad 8 into the area and they were located within a few minutes. Flight paramedic Lindsey Simpson was hover off-loaded on a nearby rock. She made contact with the juveniles and made sure no one was hurt or injured. She then escorted them back to the rock where they were all hover loaded onto the helicopter and flown to the trailhead where their parents were waiting. All juveniles were released to their parents without incident. |

The problem here is a fact that we have pointed out many, many times at Jihad Watch: there is no reliable way to distinguish jihadists from peaceful Muslims. There is no Islamic authority (with the arguable exception of the Spanish ulama) that has declared that Muslims who hold to the theology and ideology of Osama bin Laden are not true Muslims and are not welcome in their mosques. Making this even more difficult is the doctrine of religious deception founded on Koran 3:28. Thus the Afghan police authorities couldn't have kept Taliban loyalists out, even if it tried -- and it is unlikely that it is trying. This is something for the learned analysts to ponder not only as it concerns our policies in Afghanistan, but numerous other policies as well, including immigration, the language used in defending ourselves from this threat, and more. SPPD, CHP, VCSD use canines, helicopter to search for Ornelas
On November 7, 2009, at approximately 10:19 p.m. a Santa Paula Police Officer who was on patrol observed a vehicle driving at a high speed in the area of E. Main St. The Officer followed the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic enforcement stop. The vehicle slowed to the speed limit however, the driver failed to yield to the officer’s lights and siren. The vehicle then drove throughout the city for approximately 16 minutes. During this time, the driver obeyed the traffic control signs and signals, and the speed limit, however he did not yield to the officer’s lights and sirens. The California Highway Patrol became involved in the incident in the area of Palm Ave. and Santa Barbara St. The vehicle sped at a high rate of speed south on Palm Ave., failing to yield to for traffic stop lights. The vehicle entered State Route 126 and traveled east to the area of Sycamore Rd. The driver then drove the vehicle south on Sycamore Rd. and west onto the train tracks for a short period of time. The driver stopped the vehicle and fled on foot south into the dense orchards. An approximate quarter square mile perimeter was established around the area. Officers from the Santa Paula Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene to assist in the search for the suspect. Three police and sheriff canines, and the Sheriff’s Department helicopter were used to search for the subject. The subject was not located in the area. Officers were able to identify the suspect as Rudy Ornelas, 29 years of age and a resident of Santa Paula. A warrant request has been issued for his arrest. He was the sole occupant in the vehicle. No officers or other persons were injured in this incident. This incident covered approximately 12 miles and lasted approximately 23 minutes. |

Ventura County Sheriff's Department Location: Calle Laredo / Lynn Road, Thousand Oaks (S)uspects, (V)ictims, (W)itnessess City of Residence Age On Thursday, October 29th, 2009, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department’s Fugitive Unit arrested Edward Allen Houston Sr. for a $1,000,000 felony warrant for various financial crimes. The arrest warrant stemmed from an investigation by the Sheriff’s Department’s Major Crimes Unit into allegations that Houston Sr. used his deceased father’s biographical information in order to obtain over $500,000 in loans from Countrywide Bank. Houston is also believed to have obtained California Driver’s Licenses in the names of his brother, half-brother, and deceased friend in order to further his criminal activity. At this time, Sheriff’s Investigators believe that Houston Sr. might have victimized other people in real estate fraud or other financial crimes. Investigators are asking anyone with information on Houston Sr.’s criminal activity to call the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit at (805) 477-7000. |

Start Smart will show how a poor choice behind the wheel can change the lives of everyone involved. Our goal is to raise awareness and reduce the number of teen-related injuries and deaths due to collisions. Ventura County Sheriff's Department Deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Ojai Substation responded to a call of a female stabbing victim. Upon arrival, deputies located a female in her mid-twenties on the side of the roadway. The female victim appeared to have been stabbed multiple times. The victim was airlifted by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Air Unit to the Ventura County Medical Center. At this time, the extent of the victim’s injuries are unknown. Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit and Major Crimes Unit are on-scene looking for evidence and possible witnesses to the crime. Ventura County Sheriff's Department RB#: 09-27117 Involved Parties City of residence Age The Thousand Oaks Police Department’s Traffic Bureau is investigating an injury traffic accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The collision occurred in the intersection of Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Westlake Boulevard. Ayumi Taki was walking westbound on Thousand Oaks Boulevard in the intersection. Taki was in the crosswalk on the north side of the intersection. Claire Borczon was making a right turn from westbound Thousand Oaks Boulevard onto northbound Westlake Boulevard when she collided into Taki. Personnel from the Ventura County Fire Department and American Medical Response responded to the scene. Taki was treated at the scene and then transported via ambulance to Los Robles Regional Medical Center for further treatment. At this time alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision. The investigation is continuing. |

 Arnold Schwarzenegger California State Governor Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement regarding the death of California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Jarrod Martinez of Buellton: "Maria and I are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jarrod Martinez, who worked daily to protect his community. The Santa Barbara area is a better place because of his tireless service and we will never forget his dedication to public safety. On behalf of all Californians, we send our thoughts and prayers to Jarrod's family, friends and fellow officers." Martinez, 30, died on October 29 after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle while he was on-duty. He graduated from the CHP Academy on October 31, 2008. Martinez is survived by his wife Trish and daughter Julia. In honor of Officer Martinez, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff. |

Unit Responsible: Moorpark Police Department (S)uspects, (V)ictims, (W)itnesses Address Age (V) Patton, Alice Deputy Sheriff (V) Garnier, Adam Deputy Sheriff (S) Male Juvenile Oxnard 17 On 11/02/2009, at about 12:10 A.M, Dep. Patton, employed by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department watched a vehicle as the driver sat through a green light on Spring Road at Peach Hill. Dep. Patton activated her traffic enforcement lights and exited her marked patrol unit in order to contact the driver of the vehicle. As Dep. Patton walked towards the vehicle the driver turned onto East bound Peach Hill Road, against the red traffic signal. Dep. Patton got back in her unit and followed the vehicle in an attempt to get the driver to stop. The driver of the vehicle ignored the patrol unit’s red lights and siren as it fled east on Peach Hill and then turned north on Miller Parkway. The vehicle proceeded onto Science Dr. from Miller Parkway. As the vehicle entered Science Dr., Dep. Garnier joined Dep. Patton to assist with apprehending the driver. The vehicle drove to the end of Science Dr. where it made a u-turn and sped towards Dep. Patton and Garnier’s patrol vehicles. Dep. Patton and Garnier had positioned their vehicles side by side, about seven or eight feet apart, in order to initiate the traffic stop at the end of the cul-de-sac. The driver of the suspect vehicle intentionally collided with the front passenger side of Dep. Garnier’s unit and side swiped Dep. Patton’s vehicle as the driver continued to evade the officers. The vehicle then proceeded west on Los Angeles Ave., (Highway 118) through the City of Moorpark at speeds between 65 and 85 miles per hour. As the vehicle reached the 35 miles per hour turn just west of the City of Moorpark at approximately 85 miles per hour, the driver lost control causing the vehicle to spin out of control and then flip over several times before coming to rest on it’s roof on the north side of the roadway. The driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old Oxnard resident, was trapped inside the vehicle and the 15-year-old male passenger was ejected. The driver was removed from the vehicle by the Ventura County Fire Department who utilized the “Jaws of Life”. Both juveniles were transported to Simi Valley Hospital where the passenger was admitted for non life threatening injuries. The driver was found to be uninjured. The driver was later booked into the Ventura County Juvenile Detention Center where he is being held without bail for the below listed charges. 1. 2800.3 of the California Vehicle Code, Death or Serious Bodily Injury proximately caused by flight from pursuing peace officer. |

Ventura County Sheriff's Department Narcotics Arrest Location: 800 Block of Second Street, Fillmore, CA Date & Time: October 30, 2009 at 12:40 P.M Unit Responsible: Fillmore Police Department Suspect City of Residence Age Hernandez, Jesus Fillmore 23 On 10-30-09, at approximately 12:40 P.M, Deputy Biter, the Fillmore Police Department motorcycle officer, observed Jesus Hernandez riding his bicycle north on B Street, at First Street, in the City of Fillmore. Deputy Biter observed Hernandez fail to stop at the posted stop sign. Deputy Biter attempted to stop Hernandez for the violation by using his voice and his police lights and siren. Hernandez fled from Deputy Biter and was ultimately stopped in the 800 block of Second Street. During the investigation, Deputy Biter discovered 13 individual“baggies” of narcotics packaged for sale (about 13.9 grams) and narcotics paraphernalia. Hernandez was booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility for possession of narcotics for sale, transportation of methamphetamine, possession of narcotics paraphernalia, and resisting or delaying a police officer. |

 California Highway Patrol The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is offering a traffic safety program for teenage drivers and their parents. The Start Smart Program is aimed at helping future and newly licensed teenage drivers become aware of the responsibilities that accompany the privilege of being a licensed California driver. The program is designed as an educational tool for parents and teenagers in an effort to reduce the number of teenage injuries and deaths resulting from traffic collisions. Traffic collisions are the leading cause of death for 15-20 year olds. The primary objective of the program is to provide teens and parents with an understanding of how poor choices behind the wheel can affect the lives of numerous people. The Start Smart program also provides teens and parents with information on defensive driving, traffic laws in California, dynamics of traffic collisions, tips on avoiding traffic collisions, and DUI awareness. Ventura County Sheriff's Department Burglary (S)uspects, (V)ictims, (W)itnesses, (P)arties Age Suspect Vehicle: Possibly a full size red sports utility On Wednesday, at about 4:55 a.m., Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an alarm call at Bill’s Bike Shop. The reporting party informed Sheriff’s Dispatch that the glass door to the bike shop had been smashed and the alarm was sounding. Deputies arrived on scene in less than five minutes. They subsequently discovered three high-end mountain bikes were stolen. |

On October 23, 2009, at approximately 12:29 a.m. Santa Paula Police Officers responded to a reported stabbing at “Sanchos Bar”, located at 132 W. Harvard Blvd. Upon arrival, officers observed a subject attempting to flee from front of the bar. Several witnesses at the location notified officers that the subject attempting to flee was the stabbing suspect. Officers quickly detained the subject, later arresting him. He was identified as Lazaro Rodriguez, 29 years of age, and a resident of Santa Paula. The victim, whose name will not be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation, sustained a stab wound to his upper torso, causing critical injuries. He was transported by A.M. R. Paramedics to the Ventura County Medical Center. Sanchos Bar was closed by police for several hours for the investigation. A preliminary investigation revealed the victim and Rodriguez became involved in an argument, at which time Rodriguez stabbed the victim. This incident does not appear to be gang related. Rodriguez was also found to have an outstanding warrant of arrest for driving without a license. He was lodged at the Ventura County Jail, alleging one count of attempted murder, and for the warrant. His set bail is $500,000. |

Ventura County Sheriff's Department Incident RB#: 2009-26260 Suspects: Address: Age: On 10/25/09, at approximately 0200 hours, Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputies from the Camarillo Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of the City of Oxnard. The vehicle fled and led deputies on a pursuit, which reached speeds of 100 MPH. The pursuit ended in Oxnard, where the occupants of the vehicle fled on foot. Sheriff’s Deputies and Oxnard Police officers conducted a coordinated search with the assistance of K-9 officers from both agencies. The search resulted in the apprehension of four juveniles for a variety of charges included felony evading and theft of a vehicle. |

Ventura County Sheriff's Department Location: 4300 Block of Vineyard Avenue, El Rio Shortly after 9:00 a.m. this morning, Sheriff’s deputies reported that shots had been fired at the entrance to the courthouse at the JJC. Just within the entrance to the courthouse is a security area that is equipped with a metal detector and x-ray machine that are used to screen visitors attending court. Unarmed security personnel monitor this area. A partial wall constructed of safety glass and wood material faces the entrance of the building, and acts as a barrier for security personnel as they screen visitors. The safety glass portion of the wall shattered causing a loud noise and pieces of glass to hit the floor. It was first believed the broken glass was caused by gunfire. Interestingly, there was no observed damage to the glass doors that lead into the court building. Witness accounts led investigators to believe that a male Hispanic subject with a moustache was seen leaving the front of the building shortly after the shot had been fired. Possibly three additional gunshots had also been reported outside the courthouse after the security glass had been shattered. A suspect description was immediately broadcasted, and based on the information known to be true at the time, the Sheriff’s Department responded to this as an active shooter incident. Ventura County Sheriff's Department Location: 1500 block of Serrano Avenue, Los Angeles, Ca. (S)uspects, (V)ictims, (W)itnesses Address Age A Los Angeles man was arrested Wednesday after a four-month investigation led to him being identified as the suspect responsible for dozens of purse snatches in Ventura and Los Angeles County. Investigators arrested Adan Romero while serving a search warrant at his apartment. Romero began targeting elderly victims at Thousand Oaks shopping centers, where he would pretend to shop and then grab a victim’s wallet from her purse while she was looking at merchandise. Many of the thefts were captured on surveillance video, but Romero was not identified until a witness followed him outside a store and wrote down the license number of Romero’s van. Since June of 2009, Romero has committed 17 of these thefts in Thousand Oaks, three in Simi Valley, eight in Agoura Hills, and nine in the Crescenta Valley. Romero has an extensive criminal history in four different states. He is also a previously deported convicted felon. Romero has used 20 different names and dates of birth during previous contacts with law enforcement agencies. Romero is currently in custody at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura. He is not eligible for bail, due to an immigration hold. He is facing multiple counts of burglary, grand theft, financial elder abuse, and petty theft. |

On 10/17/2009, at approximately 0426 hours, the Santa Paula Police Department received a call of an attempted burglary that had just occurred at “Neighborhood Market”, located at 602 N. 12th Street. Officers responding to the area observed two suspicious subjects at High St. and Oak St. As the officers contacted the subjects, they noticed one of the subjects had a steel pipe in his hand. The subjects were detained. Further investigation revealed the subjects in fact attempted to burglarize the store however, they were unable to gain entry. The front doors of the store sustained moderate damage. The subjects were identified as Guadalupe Guadian, 28 years old and a resident of Santa Paula, and Martin Rivera, 25 years of age and a resident of Port Hueneme. Both subjects were arrested for burglary, conspiracy to commit crime, possession of stolen property, and possession of burglary tools. As officers checked the surrounding area for any evidence, they located a female subject hiding in a vehicle in the 1100 blk. of High St. Officers contacted the subject and inquired why she was hiding in the vehicle. She was found to be the driver for the burglary suspects. Additionally, officers located in the vehicle stolen property and burglary tools. She was arrested for conspiracy to commit crime. She was identified as Rachel Kirk, 22 years of age and a resident of Oxnard. During the investigation, officers revealed the subjects were responsible for a another burglary that occurred moments earlier at “Central Market”, located in the 1000 block of E. Main St. During that incident, the subjects forced entry through the front doors and took several items from within the store. All three subjects were lodged at the Ventura County Jail pending a court appearance. |
