SACRAMENTO – Sen. George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) today joined an estimated 10,000 Californians in a Tea Party protest on the west steps of the state capitol.

“We’re here today to protest high taxation imposed by Liberal Democrats, and government’s burdensome regulations on water and energy,” Runner said. “The bottom line is California taxpayers and business owners are sick to death of government intrusion. It’s ruining their livelihoods and quality of life, and they’re not going to take it anymore.”

Runner served as a key speaker at the event, along with Republican Congressmen Tom McClintock, Northern California radio jocks Jack Armstrong and Joe Getty; Jon Coupal, president of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers’ Association and Peter Foy, Ventura County Supervisor and the California chairman of Americans For Prosperity. Sacramento radio host Eric Hogue served as emcee. CONTINUED »

California State Governor

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today proclaimed a state of emergency in Los Angeles County and Monterey County due to wildfires that have burned approximately 13,000 acres, threatened structures, destroyed homes and forced hundreds of people to be evacuated and sent to emergency shelters.

In May, the Governor issued Executive Order S-05-09, mobilizing CAL FIRE to secure and deploy any additional resources and personnel necessary to save lives and protect homes from wildfires during this fire season.

From the start, California has enjoyed unique natural economic advantages over other states, from its regional location and deep sea ports to its temperate weather and year-round fertile agricultural land. Our world class university system, cutting edge research and development centers, and an ample, willing and able workforce would also seem to point to boundless success for the Golden State. With all of these advantages then, why has California lost its luster?

Recently, the Pacific Research Institute released the initial installment of the California Prosperity Project, a series of policy papers intended to bring to light the legislative reforms needed to make California “Golden” again. The first paper, Assessing the State of the Golden State, analyzes California’s economic performance over the last five years compared to the rest of the nation using four criteria: income, labor, migration and entrepreneurship.

The numbers don’t lie; the state’s economic performance is mediocre at best. California ranked 24th in the income category, 48th in labor, 44th in migration, and 16th in entrepreneurship. Overall, California ranked 38th out of 50 – a far cry from the state’s glory years as an international economic engine. Given our built-in advantages, Californian’s should expect better results. After observing Obama on the campaign trail and during his first six months in office, we have concluded that our President lives and governs according to his own set of “Ten Commandments.” They’re certainly NOT the Ten Commandments you learned in Sunday School. In fact... http://patriotupdate.com/exclusives/read/13

Today, a majority of Democrat Senators passed legislation to ostensibly reduce crowding in California prisons and save $1.2 billion along the way. But what Assembly Bill 14xxx really does is release about 27,000 felons early from prison, reduces felonies to misdemeanors and creates a public safety commission whose membership will include an ex-felon appointed by the Speaker of the Assembly. Yes, you read that right.

The bill passed 21-19 but not without a lengthy debate and protest by Republican Senators. This bill is a contradiction to our belief that government’s number one priority is to protect its citizens. In fact, this bill is nothing more than an over-the-top assault on California’s public safety; it’s an affront to law-abiding citizens throughout the state.

The Democrat Senators may have passed this measure today, but I believe the people of California will have the last word in the way of referendum on either the June or November 2010 ballot.

Transparency should be more than a buzzword. CONTINUED »

From a citizen in Montana:

By now you have probably heard that President Obama came to Montana last Friday. However, there are many things that the major news has not covered. I feel that since Joe and I live here and we were at the airport on Friday I should share some facts with you.

On Wednesday, August 5th it was announced locally that the President would be coming here. There are many groups here that are against his healthcare and huge spending so those groups began talking and deciding on what they were going to do. The White House would not release ANY details other than the date.

On about Tuesday Joe found out that they would be holding the "Town Hall" at the airport. (This is only because Joe knows EVERYONE at the airport) Our airport is actually located outside of Belgrade (tiny town) in a very remote location. Nothing is around there. They chose to use a hangar that is the most remotely located hangar. You could not pick a more remote location CONTINUED »

The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third grade this year.
The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest.
I decided we would have an election for a class president.

We would choose our nominees.
They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote.

To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by ot her class members.
We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have.
We got many nominations and from those, CONTINUED »

Dr. Krauthammer is an M.D. and a lawyer and is paralyzed from the neck down.

Dr. Krauthammer is on Fox News. He is an M.D. and a lawyer and is paralyzed from the neck down. A friend went to hear Charles Krauthammer. He listened with 25 others in a closed room. What he says here, is NOT 2nd-hand but 1st. The ramifications are staggering for us, our children and their children.

Last Monday was a profound evening, hearing Dr. Charles Krauthammer speak to the Center for the American Experiment. He is brilliant intellectual, seasoned & articulate. He is forthright and careful in his analysis, and never resorts to emotions or personal insults. He is NOT a fear monger nor an extremist in his comments and views. He is a fiscal conservative, and has received a Pulitzer Prize for writing. He is a frequent contributor to Fox News and writes weekly for the Washington Post. The entire room was held spellbound during his talk. I have summarized his comments, as we are living in uncharted waters economically and internationally. Even 2 Dems at my table agreed with everything he said! If you feel like forwarding this to those who are open minded and have not drunk the Kool-Aid, feel free.

Summary of his comments:

1. Mr. Obama is a very intellectual, charming individual. He is not to be underestimated. He is a cool customer who doesn't show his emotions. CONTINUED »
