Virginia Michel, long-time resident of Fillmore, passed away on April 12, 2026, at the age of 98 in Los Molinos, California.
Born December 18, 1927, in Woodbine Iowa, she was the youngest of four children born to Franklin and Maude Yonts. Her father’s poor health exacerbated by the cold Midwest winters, forced the family to California during World War II where they settled in Fillmore. She attended Fillmore High for two years, graduating in 1945.
She met Lloyd Michel Jr., also of Fillmore, and they married in 1946. While living in Bardsdale, she was active in both the church and school in Bardsdale.
Moving to Fillmore in 1969, Virginia worked for several employers and is most remembered as a checker for Safeway on Central Avenue.
Upon their retirement, they moved to the town of Paradise where she lived until 2018 when the community was destroyed by the Camp Fire.
She was preceded in death by Lloyd, 1992, and is survived by her children, Candy Woods of Tennessee, Dan (Joanna) of Santa Paula, Frank (Patty) of New Jersey and Holly (Jim) Peters of Los Molinos.
Remembrances can be made to the Bardsdale Methodist Church or the Fillmore Alumni Association.
