
Tommy Vásquez RamÃrez passed away peacefully as the Solstice sun rose on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Born April 18, 1939, in Rancho Sespe, outside of Fillmore CA, Tommy was one of 12 children raised by Paul RamÃrez and Guadalupe Vásquez RamÃrez in the Santa Clara Valley. He was a generous and hard-working man with a life marked by helping others.
Tommy is survived by his children Vincent, John, Larry, Carol, Rick, Jim, Tiffany, Brianna, Johnathan and Hector, their partners, numerous grandchildren, great-grand children, and Mary RamÃrez and Bonnie RamÃrez. He is also survived by his adoring sisters Rachel Calzada and Anita Ramirez Limon, loyal brothers Arthur and Gilbert, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Tommy was predeceased by his father Paul, his mother Guadalupe, madrasta MarÃa, sisters Carmen Davis, Esther Robles, Linda Venegas, and brothers Raul, Raymond, Paul Jr. and Henry RamÃrez.
Tommy finished top of his class at Fillmore Union High School in 1957 and began a 35-year career at General Motors Assembly Division plant located in Van Nuys, where he was production leader on the Camaros and Trans Ams. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-60, training at Fort Ord and stationed in West Germany. He returned to GM in 1960 and served unto his well-earned retirement. Mid-career, Tommy enrolled in evening courses and earned an associate’s degree from Moorpark College in 1977. After GM, he served as a bus driver for Fillmore Area Transit, serving the paratransit needs of our elders and disabled community and school children including his great nieces and nephews. A work-life of physical labor took its toll on his body, yet translated to opportunities for his children and influence upon their own ethics of hard work and educational advancement.
Tommy was active in service to community throughout his life as volunteer firefighter for the Fillmore Fire Department, numerous leadership roles with Fillmore Little League and the Booster Club at St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura. His hospice was gentle and comfortable, surrounded by family.
