Local Student Earns Athletic Award

Bethany College has awarded Jacob Arroyo, Fillmore, Calif., a performance award in baseball for the academic year of 2009-2010.

Arroyo is the son of Alisia Jones. He previously attended Ventura College in Ventura, Calif. At Bethany, he plans to study criminal justice.

Performance awards are granted to students who show proficiency in a sport or fine art and contribute to campus life by participating in intercollegiate athletics, music, visual arts or theatre.

Performance awards and scholarships are renewable for up to four years if specific academic standards continue to be met.

Bethany College competes in 15 intercollegiate sports in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Since 1902, Bethany has won 142 conference championships.
