Heritage Valley Blazers Track and Field Club concluded their 2018 season with some major record breaking moments. They began conditioning in February and for 34 of our athletes, completed their season on May 12, 2018.

This season’s elite athlete was, Lindsey Ramirez of Santa Paula, CA. who broke three records in the girls 11-12 year old Midget division for the 3200m. Lindsey ran away with her first record of 11:27.01 at the 9th Annual SoCal Youth Invite. She also raced the 1600m and took home a 1st place finish, time of 5:25.98. The two-day track meet was held at College of the Canyons on April 7th and 8th, 2018.

Lindsey Ramirez’s second record came one month later, at the (VCYTC) Ventura County Youth Track Conference Championships on May 5th, 2018. Here Lindsey pushed her limits, for no one was near her. Self-motivation, grit and the crowd at Moorpark High School kept her going to break a 34 year old record, set back in 1984. Old record was 11:37.8 and new record stands at 11:17.46. She ran her 1600m in 5:22.16 coming in 2nd. Sprinter Leah Barragan was HVB bantam highlight of the day. Leah blazed her way across the finish line in 1st, with a new record and PR of 29.44 in the 200m. She also anchored her 4x400m. HV Blazers had a total of 34 athletes advance to Co-Conference Championships, a week later.

15-16 Intermediate Boys: Jess Mohun – 100m 12.22 (PR), 3rd; 200m 25.00 (PR), 2nd; 100mH 17.74, 2nd; SP 30’-02”, 2nd and LJ 17’-09”, 1st.

Southern California Track & Field Co-Conference Championships were held on Saturday, May 12th at Buena Ventura High School. A total of 14 teams participated with only the conference top athletes who qualified. Heritage Valley Blazers represented well, with 34 athletes.

HV Blazers are known for their distance runners, and this meet was no different. Lindsey Ramirez managed to set another record in the 3200m and gain her season PR of 11:16.10. Running on tired legs, she also competed in the 1600m, placing 2nd with her season PR of 5:13.82. Lindsey, you are the future!

In Girls 8U, Emily Arriaga placed 2nd in the 1600m, time of 6:36.29 and came back to win the 800m with a time of 3:00.33 (PR). Boy’s 8U runner, Abel Arana had two major PR’s, to complete his season. Placing 2nd in the 1600m, with a time of 6:06.25 and 2nd in the 800m, in a nail biting .03 millisecond race to the finish (2:54.03). Boys 8U Sprinter, Rene Vega struggled this meet, peaking one week earlier and finished 7th – 100m, 8th – 200m, and 5th – 400m. 8U boys also nervously dropped the baton in the 4x100mR to finish 6th.

In Girls 9-10 Bantam division, Paola Estrada dominated in the 1600m, with a record breaking time of 5:48.46. She then ran a 2nd place finish in the 800m (2:44.20). Kaylani Perez finished the 800m – 5th, and 1600m – 7th. Trailing behind her was, Genevieve Abbitt, 800m – 11th and 1600m – 9th. Leah Barragan also peaking a week early, still performed very strong. Placed 1st in both the 100m (14.54) and 200m (30.48). Taking 2nd in the 400m (70.60). Boys 9-10 Timothy Pillado II ran the 400m – 8th and 800m – 6th. Ayden Marquez ran the 800m – 9th and 1600m – 7th. Noah Halcon ran the 800m 12th and 1600m 15th.

In Girls 11-12 Midget division, behind Lindsey’s 3200m recording breaking run, was teammate Niza Laureano in 2nd (12.04.04). Niza also placed 5th in the 1600m. Carolina Garcia, 3200m - 8th and 1600m – 10th. Yaraby Herrera, injured only ran second leg of her 4x400mR with her teammates, mentioned above 4:42.10, 3rd.

In Boys 11-12 Midget division, Joshua Estrada gained a PR time of 12:21.44 in the 3200m for a 9th place finish.

In Boys 13-14 Youth division, HV Blazer 800m mid-distance runners, all gained season PR’s. Christopher Jones got two 2nd place finishes in the 400m in 56.12, and 800m 2:17.15. Javier Avaols placed 5th in the 800m 2:20.62 and in 7th finished Davian Gonzalez, 2:22.33. Evyn Andrade ran a 400m 59.17 (PR), 6th. Michael Camilo-Torres ran a 1600m 5:24.26, 15th and 3200m 11:10.31 (PR), 5th. Fabian Estrada leaped his was to a season PR in the HJ 5’-2”, 2nd. Thrower, Aydin Henderson placed 1st in SP 41-02” in SP. Enrique Mora threw a 6th place finish in SP 35’-01.5”. The 4x100mR, ran 51.56 placing 7th. 4x400mR, placed 2nd with a 3:56.22 time.

In Girls 15-16 Intermediate division, Aliya Baez placed 1st in the 400m 66.47. Yazmeen Gonzalez was 2nd in the 400m 70.21, and finished 8th with a LJ PR jump of 12’-04.5”. Emma Perez ran a 2:41.58, 2nd place finish in the 800m and 2nd in the 3200m 13:25.02. The 4x100mR – Alexis Leon, Aliya Baez, Yazmeen Gonzalez, Emily Briceño ran a time of 55.63, for 6th. The same group of girls ran the 4x400mR for a 3rd place finish of 4:33.04.

This season we had an outstanding 15-16 Intermediate boy who was a rookie to track and field. Jess Mohun qualified for five events and scratched the SP to focus on the rest of his events. His 100m time of 12.28 placed him 5th, in the 200m he ran a 25.70 to place 6th, his 100mH time was a PR of 16.95, 4th, and finally a 1st place PR jump of 17’-11.5” in the LJ.

Heritage Valley Blazers Inc is a nonprofit organization, providing each athlete the opportunity to reach their full potential by developing endurance, strength, self-esteem, discipline, personal accountability and goal achievement, while encouraging positive attitudes, good sportsmanship and respect.
