Flashes traveled to Palmdale to compete in the 2 day Highland 12 Way wrestling tournament this past weekend. It was a team tournament with individual medal awards. Fillmore wrestled Reseda, Agoura, Knight, Chatsworth, Palmdale, Highland, Lancaster and Antelope Valley. Schools present but not wrestled by the Flashes were Little Rock, Upland and Eastside.

Fillmore was victorious over Knight, Antelope Valley, Lancaster and Palmdale. The Flashes tied with Chatsworth and lost to Agoura by 2 points and lost to Highland and Reseda.

Four Flashes medaled in individual points. Robert Bonilla (112 pounds) went 6 -1 and brought home 2nd Place, Christian Conaway (145 pounds) went 8 – 0 and brought home 2nd Place, Austin Davis (171 pounds) went 5 – 3 and took 4th Place and Sammy Orosco (189 pounds) went 6 – 2 and took 3rd Place.

The Flashes are coached by Bob Calderon. Coach Cal has been coaching wrestling in Fillmore for the past 26 years. While Coach Cal is excited about the team, he’s even more excited about the next few years as the entire team is comprised of under classmen. Only 4 wrestlers are juniors which means that Flashes Wrestling will be a dominant force for the next few years.

The Frontier League Championship will be held in Fillmore on Wednesday January 27th. It’s come down to Fillmore vs. Santa Paula once again for the title.
