Flashes Defeat Grace Brethren 42-30
Fillmore makes it 2 in a row

The Flashes avoided disaster last Friday night as they beat Grace Brethren 42-30 in what turned out to be an exciting game. Grace Brethren received the ball first, and they went right to work. They converted on a 4th and 1 down to the Flashes 30 yard line. They scored the first touchdown of the game with 4:45 left in the first quarter. Down 7-0 the Flashes went right to work. Fillmore scored on a touchdown run by Andrey Sanchez to tie the score at 7. The lancers got the ball back and converted on their second 4th down of the night down to the 45 yard line. The Lancers kicked a field goal, and extended their lead to 10-7. Quarterback Carson Mclain threw an interception on Fillmore’s next possession, and the Lancers took it in 50 yards for the touchdown to take a 17-7 lead with 8:25 left before halftime. Fillmore took over and scored on a touchdown run by Chino with 3 minutes left before halftime. Grace Brethren got into their 2 minute offense and scored with 3.5 seconds left before halftime. Fillmore went into the locker room down 24-14 at half.

Fillmore received the ball first. However, they were forced to punt it away. The Lancers took over at the Flashes 36 yard line. The Lancers were held on third down and they looked like they were going to punt it away. However Grace Brethren faked the punt and got the first down. The Lancers scored another touchdown to go ahead 30-14. Fillmore got the ball back but they were forced to punt it away. The Lancers were driving to score again as they appeared to have the game under control. However, the Flashes had other ideas. Fillmore intercepted a Lancer pass and took it all the way down to the 1 yard line. Quarterback Carson Mclain snuck the ball in for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 30-21. Fillmore went into the 4th quarter down by 9 and in need of a stop. They got what they wanted as Grace Brethren fumbled the ball at the 39 yard line and Fillmore recovered. Carson Mclain scored another touchdown to cut the deficit down to 2 points with 8:19 left in the game. The crowd was electric in hopes that Fillmore could pull out a win. On the Lancers next possession they were forced to punt it away. Fillmore got the ball on the 30 yard line in need of a score. Fillmore running back Chino burst up the middle for a 30 yard gain down to the Lancers 40 yard line with 3 minutes left. Chino struck again, this time on a 40 yard touchdown run that would give Fillmore the lead for good. Fillmore went for 2 and got it. Grace Brethren took over down 36-30 with 2:30 left in the game and in need of a touchdown to win. They went for it on 4th down again, but this time Fillmore stopped them. Fillmore then scored a touchdown for insurance to win the game 42-30. Great game to both teams. Good luck to the Lancers on the rest of their season as they play next Friday at Santa Clara (Oxnard). Fillmore plays away at Malibu next week in need of a win to keep their hopes of a league championship alive. GOOD LUCK FLASHES!
