Flashes Cross Country Place at VCC Championship
On Saturday, October 18th, Flashes Cross Country competed at the Ventura County Cross Country Championships with multiple athletes from the boys and girls team medaling. On Saturday, October 18th, the Fillmore Cross Country teams traveled to Ojai, California and participated in the Ventura County Cross Country Championships. The 3-mile course starts on pavement and transitions to wide dirt trails with several challenging hills.
Two athletes competed in the Men’s Freshman race. Damian Santa Rosa was Fillmore’s top finisher on the day, placing 7th in 17:34.71. He was followed by Prince Kamradt 91st in 21:20.50. Damian was also a medal winner.
In the Women’s Frosh/Soph race, Fillmore fielded a complete team. They were led by Valeria Munoz Mendez 24th in 23:12.6. She was followed by Melanie Martinez 27th in 23:28.0, Mariana Elvira 64th in 25:42.9, Celeste Camarena 68th 25:47.10, and Camila Soto 72nd in 25:51.80. Valeria and Melanie were medal winners in this race. In the team competition, Fillmore finished in 8th.
In the Women’s Varsity race Camila Rodriguez led the Fillmore quartet, placing 22nd in 19:51.30. She was followed by Melanie Flores 53rd in 21:24.80, Michelle Setty 81st in 22:46.10, and Marbella Arroyo Tapia 99th in 24:41.9. Camila was a medal winner in this race.
In the Varsity Men’s race Fillmore lone runner, Jordan Hernandez finished 122nd in 19:52.8.
Three Fillmore athletes competed in the Sophomore Men’s race. They were led by Nikolias Cerda 42nd in 19:54.8. Chris Torres followed in 68th in 21:50.9.
In the Junior Varsity Women’s race Megan Robles was Fillmore’s top finisher in 64th place in 28:31.60. She was followed by Victoria Ruiz, 73rd in 29:53.5.
In the Junior Varsity Men’s race, Luis Roque led the Fillmore runners, placing 68th in 20:38.9. Diego Vega followed in 114th place, posting a time of 23:52.5, Ricardo Quilo 123rd in 25:47.9, and Alfredo Bacilio 124th in 25:49.9.
The Fillmore Cross Country teams will now prepare for 77th annual Mt. San Antonio College Invitational scheduled for Saturday, October 25, in Walnut, California.
