Flashes Can't Beat The Saints

Last Friday Fillmore traveled to Oxnard to play the Santa Clara Saints. The game started off well for the Flashes as they kicked the ball off, and the defense held the Saints on a quick 3 and out. Fillmore took over on the Saints 35 yard line. Fillmore drove all the way down field capped off on a touchdown run by Andrey Sanchez. Fillmore took a 7-0 lead with 9:44 left in the first quarter. Santa Clara got the ball back, but was forced to punt again. Fillmore took over on their own 45 yard line. The Flashes drove the ball into the end zone again on a touchdown by Justin Coert to push the lead to 14-0 with 5:25 left in the quarter. Both teams were forced to punt the ball away. Santa Clara got the ball back and got on the score board on a touchdown by Daniel Acosta to cut the lead to 14-7. Fillmore then scored on a field goal by Justin Coert to push the score to 17-7 in favor of Fillmore. Christian Zapada of Santa Clara scored another touchdown to pull the saints to within 4 points with 5:58 left in the half. Santa Clara then took the lead 20-17 with 50 seconds left before halftime.

Fillmore received the ball to start the second half and put it in the endzone on another touchdown by Justin Coert. Fillmore got the ball back off of a Santa Clara punt. However, the Flashes turned the ball over back to the Saints. The Saints capitalized and scored a touchdown to take the lead 26-24. Fillmore got the ball back looking to take the lead and win the game. However, quarterback Carson Mclain threw an interception in the redzone and Santa Clara put the game away thanks to a touchdown reception from Daniel Acosta. The Saints (4-2, 2-0) play at Grace Brethern next Friday. Meanwhile the Flashes (4-2, 1-1) finally return home as they play Malibu next Friday night. Good luck Fillmore.
