On Saturday, January 31st, a group of Fillmore sprinters and middle-distance runners tested their preseason mettle at Simi Valley High School.
In the 60-meter dash, Janessa Corona clocked a fast 8.49 seconds. She was joined by Draco Centerian, who finished in 7.71, and Domenic Corona, who crossed the line in 8.29. All three athletes returned to the track for the 150-meter sprint, with Janessa posting a 20.86, Draco an 18.75, and Domenic a 19.94.
The middle-distance crew also showed mid-season form. Ethan Leighton (Saint Bonaventure High School) finished the 600-meter event in 1:32.16. This performance converts to a 2:07.18 for the 800-meter distance. Damian Santa Rosa competed in the 1500 meters, finishing in 4:32.18. His 1600-meter conversion stands at 4:52.24. Both Leighton and Santa Rosa achieved personal bests based on these converted marks. Damian doubled back in the 3000 meters to post a time of 9:57.16, and Ethan also ran a quick 300 meters in 40.22.
