The Fillmore High School Gymnasium roared with energy Wednesday night as the Fillmore Flashes Girls Wrestling team delivered a commanding 59–0 victory over the visiting Del Sol Jaguars. The Flashes earned wins in every bout.
The evening opened with a tense, back-and-forth match at 105 lbs. In the final seconds of the third period—down on points—junior Elvia Palmerin secured a dramatic fall over Sofia Cortes, setting the tone for the rest of the meet. At 115 lbs, standout wrestler and junior captain Naomi Bonilla continued the momentum with an impressive technical fall against Giselle Flores.
The Flashes extended their lead with a series of dominant performances. At 125 lbs, senior Delilah Cervantez earned a pin over Axea Dael, followed by freshman Sophia Valdovinos at 130 lbs, who secured her own pin against Citali Morales. Fillmore added more points through forfeits at 140 lbs (senior Skyla Sandoval) and 145 lbs (senior Michelle Pinedo).
The upper weights brought no slowdown in intensity. At 155 lbs, junior Yoseline Cruz delivered a strong pin over Mia Ortiz, while freshman Sophia Rivera followed at 170 lbs scoring a reversal into a fall against Daniela Trejo. Forfeits at 190 lbs (sophomore Candy Aguilar) and 235 lbs (freshman Annebelle Olaguez) sealed the flawless victory for the home team.
Fillmore head coach Michael Torres praised his athletes’ preparation. “Our girls were nervous but came ready to compete,” Torres said. “They’ve been working steadily, and tonight’s performance reflects their dedication.”
Del Sol head coach Aulama Lemalu Jr. acknowledged the challenge presented by the Flashes and expressed pride in his athletes’ effort despite the tough outcome.
The Flashes now look ahead to their next home meet on Thursday, November 20, at 5:30 p.m., when they will host the Thousand Oaks Lancers. The veteran Lancers squad is expected to provide a significantly tougher test than the young and developing Del Sol team.
