Fillmore Girls Wrestling Earns Podium Finishes at Local Tournaments

The Fillmore High School Girls Wrestling Team continued to gain valuable experience and recognition on the mat with strong performances at two local tournaments in December.
On Saturday, December 13, 2025, Fillmore competed at the Showdown at the Shore Tournament, hosted by Hueneme High School. Freshman Tania Vazquez turned in an impressive effort in the 130 lb. division, finishing 4th place with a 2–2 record, earning two wins by pin along the way. Also representing Fillmore, freshman Sophia Valdovinos battled through a demanding bracket in the 125 lb. division, placing 5th overall after posting a strong 4–2 record on the day.
On Saturday, December 6, junior standout Naomi Bonilla competed at the Lady Jaguar Tournament at Del Sol High School, where she earned a 2nd-place finish in the 112 lb. division with a 2–1 record, continuing her consistent success this season.
Head coach Michael Torres praised the team’s progress, saying, “Our girls are gaining confidence and improving every time they step on the mat to compete.”
The Lady Flashes will next return to action at home on Wednesday, January 7, when they host the Santa Paula Cardinals for Senior Night in a Citrus Coast League dual at the Fillmore High School Gymnasium. Matches are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Fillmore enters the league matchup at 0–1, while Santa Paula holds a 1–1 record.
