Adelanto, CA — Junior captain Naomi Bonilla punched her ticket to the CIF Southern Section Girls Wrestling Masters Meet with a fourth-place finish at the Northern Division Individual Championships, leading the Fillmore Flashes girls wrestling team through a competitive two-day tournament at Adelanto High School on Feb. 13-14.
Competing at 105 pounds in a 32-person bracket, Bonilla posted an impressive 6-2 record that included three pins, a dominant 10-0 major decision, and a pair of 3-0 decisions. Her fourth-place finish earned her one of eight coveted spots in each of 14 weight classes to advance to the Masters Meet at Sonora High School, which serves as the qualifier for the state championships in Bakersfield.
Seeded fifth entering the tournament, Bonilla improved on her sixth-place finish at last year’s CIF Southern Section Northern Championship. The two-time Citrus Coast League Champion and Lower Weight League MVP demonstrated her continued growth and consistency at the championship level.
“Naomi showed great leadership and composure throughout the tournament, she listened to our instruction and had a peak performance” said head coach Michael Torres, who guides the girls program alongside her father and assistant coach Jorge Bonilla.
The Flashes brought nine wrestlers to the Northern Division championships, with several athletes gaining valuable postseason experience. Freshmen made up a significant portion of the team, highlighting the program’s developing squad.
At 110 pounds, freshman Alani Alvarado finished 2-2, while fellow freshman Sofia Montelongo matched that record at 140 pounds. Senior co-captain Skyla Sandoval also went 2-2 at 135 pounds.
Senior co-captain Michelle Pinedo competed at 130 pounds and finished 1-2. Freshmen Aubree Herrera (115 pounds), Sophia Rivera (155 pounds), and Annabelle Olaguez (190 pounds) each went 0-2 but gained important championship experience in their CIF debuts. Senior Delilah Cervantez (120 pounds) concluded her high school career with an 0-2 performance.
