Fillmore Distance Runners Compete in Races

On Saturday, February 7, two Fillmore athletes toed the start line of the Moorpark Groundhog Day 5K/1M. The course started and finished on the high school track. Both Damian Santa Rosa, a student at Fillmore High School, and his brother Jacob Santa Rosa, a student at Fillmore Middle School competed in the 5 Kilometer run (3.1 miles). Damian finished 8th overall in 17:35.52. Damian was the winner of the 12-15 age group division. Jacob finished 26th overall and was the second-place finisher in the 8-11 age group division in a time.

On Friday, the Moorpark College track team hosted a two-day event that kicked off their 2026 track and field season. The running events took place on Saturday and were run at Griffin Stadium. Angel Garcia, a former cross country and track standout at Fillmore High School competed in the Men’s 3000-kilometer run. This is a run of about seven and a half revolutions of the 400-meter oval. Angel’s personal best time in this event was at 9:35.19. On Saturday, Angel shattered his old personal record with a well-executed 9:20.5 second run.
