Fillmore College Athletes Compete

Over the last couple of weekends former Fillmore Harriers have competed for their respective collegiate cross country teams.

On September 8th, Rey Laureano, a member of the Westmont Cross Country squad competed in the Biola Invitational. This meet was run at Craig Regional Park in Fullerton, over an 8 kilometer course, approximately 4.971 miles. In this race, Rey captured 45th place in a time of 27:19.4. In the team competition, Westmont placed among the top schools with a third place finish.

Two of our former athletes, now competing for the University of Northridge, traveled to Riverside on September 16th and ran in the Riverside Cross Country Invitational. Their races were run on the UCR Agricultural Operations Course. The Men’s Invite competed over an 8 kilometer course. Camilo Torres was second man for his team and ran to a 105th place finish to help his team secure 21st place. In the women’s six kilometer race, Vanessa Avila helped the Northridge team secure 15th place by finishing in 143rd
place in a time of 23:23.5.

On Friday, September 15th, Alianna Tapia, a member of the Moorpark College women's cross country team, traveled to Long Beach to compete in the SoCal Preview Meet. This meet was held on the El Dorado Park course. Alianna led her team over the 5K course to an 11th place finish. She was Moorpark’s top finisher by placing 10th in a personal best time of 19:09.6.

On Saturday, September 23rd, all 4 athletes will come together on their respective teams and compete at Central Park in Santa Clarita at the Master’s University Invitation. First race of the day starts at 7:30 a.m. This would be a perfect time to support our alumni athletes. Hope to see you there.
