On Friday, March 27th, three Fillmore Alumni, currently representing Cal State University Northridge, competed at the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival & Jim Bush Legends Invitational at UCLA’s Drake Stadium.
The men’s 3000-meter steeplechase, an event that is new to many high school runners is contested over 5 barriers per lap, with a total of 35 barriers for the 7 ½ laps and a water jump barrier, the contestants cleared the water jump 7 times.
This race featured two athletes from Fillmore, Diego Rodriguez who finished in 5th in a time of 9:30.98, eclipsing his previous best of 9:41.85, and Omar Heredia 15th in a personal best time of 10:06.09. This was a 23 second improvement for Omar from his previous best of 10:29.10.
Camilo Torres returned to competition at this same meet, after recovering from a knee injury, that sidelines him for 4 weeks. He placed 9th in the 5000-meter race in a respectable time of. 14:55.34.

Fillmore & Piru Athletes Compete in Corporate Games
On Saturday morning several Fillmore/ Piru athletes competed in the 5 K running portion of the Corporate Games. This event started at the San Buenaventura State Park, runners headed north to surfers point and then returned to the start area to finish.
In Division A, Luis Rodriguez finished 41st in 23:55. He was followed by Melissa Arroyo 42nd in 24:00., Tania Ramirez 45th in 24:10, Francisco Aguayo 53rd in 24:43., Amber Gomez 58th in 25:05., Bryanna Pina 94th in 27:30., Gerardo Aguilar 141st in 30:23., Erick Pina 166th in 32:31., Jennifer Valladolid 191st in 34:27., Sarina Leal 224th in 38:32., Alejandro Uribe 232nd in 39:28., Anna Monroy 268th in 42:27., Sandra Renteria 287th in 44:47., Daisy Magana 293rd in 45:10., Natalie Jimenez 295th in 45:21., Brian Valladolid 298th in 45:43., and Vianey Martinez 341st in 52:29. In Division C, Christian Teixeira was 1st in 17:56. In Division D, Ryan Giacolone was 78th in 34:34., Raymond Pech 90th in 38:34., Aura Diaz 94th in 39:26., and Michelle Mejia 143rd in 56:05.
