The Fillmore High School boys’ wrestling team battled throughout the night but ultimately fell to the Del Sol Jaguars, 40–23, on Wednesday in the Fillmore Gymnasium. The dual featured several standout wins for the Flashes, but Del Sol capitalized on key moments and forfeits to secure the victory.
The night began with two early setbacks for Fillmore, giving away two forfeits to Del Sol. At 106 lbs., William Servin earned a win via forfeit, and at 120 lbs., Romeo August also won by forfeit, giving the Jaguars a quick 12–0 lead.
Fillmore responded at 126 lbs., where senior co-captain Tony Lemus ignited the crowd with a dominant pin over Gilbert Santillan, putting the Flashes on the board. At 138 lbs., junior James Alcantar delivered a strong performance, earning a major decision over Del Sol’s Jacob Cervantez.
Del Sol answered at 144 lbs., where Fillmore’s freshman Isaiah Salazar fell by pin to Justin Campana. The Flashes bounced back at 150 lbs., with junior Chris Cardenas securing a powerful pin against Albert Diaz (DSHS).
The dual tightened at 165 lbs., where Fillmore’s freshman Abraham Castorena fought through a competitive match but ultimately lost by decision to Misael Bustamante. Fillmore regained momentum at 175 lbs., with senior co-captain Gonzalo Landeros earning a crucial pin over Daniel Mayer.
However, Del Sol extended its lead at 190 lbs., where Bernie Romero won by forfeit. The final match of the night featured Fillmore’s freshman Kobe Avila at 215 lbs., who suffered a loss by pin to Jose Perez, sealing the 40–23 outcome.
Fillmore head coach Manuel Ponce praised his wrestlers’ effort. “Our guys fought hard in every match, but giving away 18 forfeit points, was too much to overcome.” Ponce said. “These early competitions will help us grow.”
Del Sol head coach Aulama Lemalu Jr. credited his team’s resilience and ability to capitalize on key opportunities.
The Flashes now look ahead to their next home meet on Thursday, November 20, at 5:30 p.m., when they will host the Thousand Oaks Lancers.
