The Fillmore Middle School Bulldogs turned in an impressive performance at the Ventura County Middle School Wrestling League Championships, held Friday, April 17th at Royal High School in Simi Valley. Competing against seven other county schools — Anacapa, Balboa, Cabrillo, DeAnza, Isbell, Nordhoff, and Sinaloa — the Bulldogs claimed a total of thirteen medals across all three podium positions.
Six Bulldogs captured first-place gold in their respective grade level divisions and weight classes: Francisco Avila, Cayden Balades, Albert Morales, Liam Patton, Isaac Ramirez, and Roque Rivera. Earning silver medals were Parker Blackshear, Kamila Cuesta, Anthony Ramirez, and Valentin Sandoval, while Bryan Manzo, Miguel Morales, and Torrey Morales rounded out the medal haul with third-place finishes.
Head coach Michael Torres praised the effort of every competitor and extended special thanks to parents and family members who came out to support the athletes as well as FUSD Maintenance and Operations, FMS staff, faculty, and administration for their support throughout the season. With thirteen medalists on the day, the Bulldogs have plenty of reasons to be proud heading into the offseason.
