That’s why I want to encourage and express how important it is for those giving care to be here regularly. The more you come, the more the Alzheimer’s Association will come and be here to help you get the most out of the support group. So, No excuses, see you on the 10th. What Actually is a Senior Center ?
A Senior Center is a place in a community where seniors can gather for support, socialization, fitness and/or other services provided for older people 55 plus. Senior centers are important as many older people live alone and don't see family members regularly. The resources and activities available at senior centers help many older people remain a vital part of their community. There may be a small donation fee required to cover costs for special classes or field trips. The main idea behind a senior center is to provide a welcoming environment for all seniors in the community interested in taking part in the group atmosphere.
The Fillmore’s Senior Center, located at 533 Santa Clara Street in Fillmore, is completely funded by donations to keep it going. Volunteers and staff work together to organize the programs, services and activities at the centers. The seniors themselves also often volunteer at the center. Senior center staff may provide referrals to services for seniors such as meal delivery or home care aide services. For some seniors, the center may be their only source of socialization with people their own age so a senior center can fulfill a very important role in society.

The Fillmore Senior Center would like to thank all our supporters who have so generously donated their loose change to the senior center. The donations can be used to purchase coffee and office supplies for the center. Some of our printer cartridges alone can cost around $70 dollars each. We are also looking for an old fashioned, black & white, No Frills “Copy” Machine. Should someone, or a company have one they are not using any more, but is still in great working condition, we would be happy to pick it up. Two other items we are looking for are, a glass display case with lock, and a book case. Give please us a call 524-4533.
Our Next Alzheimer’s & Dementia Caregiver Support Group will meet on August 13th in the Senior Center Library from 9:00 – 10:30 A.M. This is a great opportunity for those caring for their love ones to step back, take a moment to breath, to share & learn from others going though the same frustrations of repeating information and worrying what’s going to happen to their loved ones. Norma Featherston from the Alzheimer’s Association along with Ted Stekkinger volunteer their time to facilitate the group.
Book Club Starting August 15th, Will meet on Wednesdays, at 10:00 AM. They will be discussing “The 80 Dollar Champion” by Elizabeth Letts. Also, recommended reading “When The Killing’s Done” by T.C. Boyle.
It’s time to get your reservations in for the AARP Driver Safety Class: The class is set for Monday, August 20th for the first part and Thursday, August 23rd for the second part from 9-1pm.
