The best way to remain healthy and independent as you age is to keep active and exercise. That’s why SCAN Senior Resource Center and Catholic Charities have partnered with the Fillmore Senior Center and Santa Paula Senior Center to offer Seniorcize, an exciting exercise class designed specifically for older adults. Classes are now forming in Fillmore and Santa Paula. The classes will meet twice a week for 11 weeks and will address a range of issues common to seniors such as improving bone strength; decreasing risk of falls; and increasing muscle strength, endurance and energy. In Santa Paula, Seniorcize begins on September 6 and will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 11 weeks from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Santa Paula Senior Center, 530 W. Main Street, Santa Paula. In Fillmore, the program begins on September 9 and will meet on Mondays and Fridays for 11 weeks from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. On Mondays the class will meet at the Fillmore Senior Center, 533 Santa Clara; and on Fridays the class will meet at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1048 West Ventura Street, Fillmore. The regular cost for the class is $44, which is $2 per session. However, in an effort to help launch this series, SCAN Health Plan’s SCAN Senior Resource Center in Ventura is helping with the cost. The first 25 seniors (age 60 and older) who register will pay only $22. A minimum of 15 participants are needed for class formation. For more than 30 years, SCAN Health Plan has been focusing on the unique needs of seniors and is now the country’s fourth largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plan. The company currently has nearly 130,000 members in California and Arizona. Further information may be obtained at scanhealthplan.com. |
