Low Vision Support Group Will return to the Sr. Center Starting January 25th from 10am to 11:30 once a month. The Braille Wagon will also be here February 29th from 10-2 pm. The Low Vision Classes have counselors that discuss daily living skills (orientation & mobility, cooking, etc.). Also the Braille institute has provided us with Library Services, Talking books, and a MagniSight viewer available daily to help anyone with problems reading the newspaper or books. These are “Free” services just waiting for you to take advantage of.
AARP will be doing Federal and State Income Taxes Every Tuesdays at the Fillmore Senior Center for Seniors 60 plus, from February 7th. through April 10th. Starting at 9AM the last client will be at 12:00. This is first come first served. (No Appointments) Please remember to bring your copy of the 2010 tax return and your Social Security card. Other items to bring are: Your W-2 Form, if you were employed; also any Federal and State Tax forms you may receive in the mail,
New Gourd Wood Burning Class will start February 14th. From 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Cost of the class is a $2.00 Donation per class. The ancients used various methods to burn designs into gourd surfaces. Some used metal spear tips heated over a flame. Others applied various acids and then held the gourd over a flame. Today all you need is a hobbyist's wood-burning pen. This is a great opportunity to see if this would be a great hobby for you, We have Gourds, paint and the tools needed to get you started. Interested? please call us and let us know. 524-4533
The Alzheimer’s Association is offering a program for Non-Professional Caregivers “The Savvy Caregiver Program” this will consist of 3 Thursday’s March 15th., 22nd. & 29th. From 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon. Is an educational training program for families caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias. Non-professional caregivers will acquire skills and knowledge of dementia, handling difficult situations and managing behavior. Attendees will also learn about managing their own well being and resources available in the community to help. This is the last time this particular class will be offered at the Fillmore Senior Center.
