Every Tuesday AARP will be doing Taxes through April 9th.. Starting at 9AM the last client will be at 12:00. This is first come, first served. The Center doesn’t open until 8:30 Please remember to bring your copy of the 2011 tax returns, your W-2 Form if you were employed; also any Federal and State Tax forms you may receive in the mail. Although AARP’s focus is on seniors, they also do low income families. Classes are being taught the same time AARP is doing the taxes. Some classes need more quiet than others, so we just ask that you be respectful of classes going on at the same time. Also Si no habla Inglés traiga un intérprete, Gracias. Thank you.

March 7th. part 2 AARP Driver Safety Class is designed to help seniors tune up their driving skills and update their knowledge of the rules of the road. This is an 8-hour class broken into two 4 hour classes. The Class fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. A completed registration form is required for participation. Checks should be made payable to AARP. As we get older it is important to take these classes and refresh our driving skills and learn how to drive more safely, especially now days, when we’re dealing with sometimes 5 lanes of traffic. Thursday, March 8th from 10AM - 11:30 Our Caregiver Support Group will be having a special class to discuss “The 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s & Dementia”. Many people worry about becoming more forgetful as they grow older. Our brains change as we age, just like the rest of our bodies. However, serious memory loss, confusion and other major changes in the way our minds work are not a typical part of aging. When Memory loss starts being a warning sign, some people may recognize the changes in them self before anyone else notices. Other times, friends and family will be the first to observe changes in the person’s memory, behavior or abilities. To help, the Alzheimer’s Association has created a list of 10 warning signs, such as forgetting recently learned information or difficulty completing familiar tasks, forgetting where they are or how they got there. Our speaker also speaks Spanish, so don’t let language stop you from coming. Please call and let us know your coming in case we need to repeat the class all in Spanish. 524-4533

To celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day this year the Active Adult Center located at 533 Santa Clara Street in the Fillmore Senior Center, we will be having some extra special entertainment. Monday, March 18th. You are invited to join us for a Saint Patrick’s Day Luncheon at 11:30 – 1:00 . We will be serving Roast Turkey & Mashed Potatoes with vegetables. On March 20th The Irish Dancers from Saint Thomas Aquinas College will be performing at 3:30 p.m. here at the Fillmore Senior Center. Like last year this is an opportunity for the local students to show off what they have been learning. There will be some Irish punch and cookies to help celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Reservations are not necessary for this performance, but appreciated so we have enough seating for everyone coming, please call 524-4533
