
Ruben Villa Tovar passed away on November 17, 2025, at the age of 83. He was surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren.
Ruben was born July 14, 1942, in San Fernando, California. He was a lifelong resident of Fillmore who excelled in football and baseball at Fillmore High School. Ruben received the “Mr. Shutout Award” as the starting varsity pitcher. He graduated in 1961 and married his high school sweetheart in 1963.
Ruben began working at the age of 11 with his father. In his adult life, he was employed by General Motors and Fillmore Unified School District. He retired as the Supervisor of the Department of Transportation.
Ruben offered his time freely to coach local baseball and girls’ softball teams, that all had great success. He had an inspirational impact on many young athletes. Ruben was honored as Raider’s Youth Football Homecoming Grand Marshall and was an avid LA Dodgers fan.
Ruben loved family barbecues, spending time with family, and enjoying nature in the local mountains, the Sierras, and the Rockies with his sons and grandsons.
Ruben is proceded in death by his father Refugio and his mother Elvira. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Dolores, sons Peter (Delia), Bob (Lisa), Larry (Valerie), and daughter Julie (Rudy). Grandchildren Ruben Jr., Joseph, Jonathan, Sara, Rachel, Olivia, Katheryn, Eve, Luke, Mary-Grace, Isabella, Larry Jr., Alexis, Alex, Steven, Cristian, Katalina, David, Damian, and 16 great grandchildren. Siblings Helen Lopez, Rosie Arias, Philip Tovar, and David Tovar.
A Rosary will begin at 9:00am on Monday, December 15, 2025, with a Funeral Mass to begin at 9:30 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1048 West Ventura Street in Fillmore, California.
