
Robert “Bob” Gilkison, 75, of Bakersfield, California, passed away unexpectedly on July 27, 2026. Born in Santa Paula in February 1951, Bob, affectionately known as “Gilky,” graduated from Fillmore High School in 1969, and served in the Army during the Vietnam era. After his service he turned his passion for cars into a career in the auto body repair industry, and opened the Sespe Saloon, later becoming a private investigator and worked in that field until his retirement in 2016.
Bob was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports, attending car shows, and traveling with friends. Known for his gift of conversation and friendly spirit, he brought joy to those around him and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Lou, and his brother, Bill Gilkison. He is survived by his spouse, Kelly Sloan; his son, Christopher Gilkison (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Ashton, Zach, Emma and Kaiden, brother James Gilkison (Carol); Loki and Chester.
A memorial service will be held on Friday August 14, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Bardsdale Cemetery at 1698 S. Sespe Street, Fillmore CA.
