
Rita Gaitan Miranda, 88 years young, passed away peacefully with family at her side on April 30th, 2026, at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California.
Rita was born in Piru, California on March 21, 1938. Her parents were Genaro and Natividad Gaitan. Rita attended Piru Elementary School, Fillmore Jr. High and Fillmore High School. She graduated in 1957 from Fillmore High School.
After high school, she worked in various jobs in Valencia, San Fernando and eventually settled in Santa Barbara. She had a deep appreciation for music, politics, sports and cooking. She loved Mariachi music, but the Mariachi had to be the best. She enjoyed dancing at La Fonda in Los Angeles and listening to the Mariachis. She was very much into politics and kept up with the latest news by reading the Los Angeles Times, and the Santa Barbara local newspaper.
Above all, Rita was devoted to her family. Whether for celebrations, difficult times, or moments of need, she always made the journey from Santa Barbara to offer her support and care. Rita treasured her friendships at La Cumbre Senior Home in Santa Barbara. She will be remembered for her laughter, her strength, and her kindness.
She shared a special bond with her beloved dog, Ricky, who was her constant companion and protector.
Rita is survived by her sisters Juanita and Julio Reyes, Ramona Garcia, and her brother Tony and Sandra Gaitan. She is also lovingly remembered by more than 15 nieces and nephews, along with many grandnieces and grandnephews. She will be deeply missed for her friendship, her stories, and her unwavering love for family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Humberto Miranda; her parents, Genaro and Natividad Gaitan; her sisters Lillian Ibarra, Natalie Gaitan Scheller, and Sally Gaitan; and her brothers Alfonso Gaitan and Henry “Kiki” Gaitan.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Cottage Hospital, as well as to all the family and friends who visited or called during her illness and final days.
A rosary was held on Saturday, June 20th, 2026, at 9:30am followed by a funeral mass at San Salvador Mission, 4041 Center Street, Piru, California 93040 followed by interment at Piru District Cemetery, 3580 Center Street, Piru, CA 93040.
