Place FREE Ads on County’s “Reuse, Donate, Recycle” Website!

The County of Ventura proudly sponsors the www.vcmax.org “Reuse, Donate, Recycle” waste reduction program, and encourages residents and business owners to browse through the hundreds of “Available for Reuse” and “Wanted for Reuse” ads posted free of charge on the website. VCMAX, the Ventura County Materials Exchange program, operates like Craigslist; the major difference between the programs is all ads and photographs on the VCMAX website are approved by County staff prior to posting. This is a “safe” site, and there is no charge to place ads. Everything posted on the website is free or reasonably priced. If you find something you like in an ad, just contact the listing party by email or phone, arrange for the swap, and then log back on the VCMAX.org site to confirm the match. Confirmation of matches is very important as it provides the County with the weight of the items swapped for reuse. That tonnage information is totaled at the end of the year and included in mandatory
reports to the California Integrated Waste Management Board to document the County’s waste reduction efforts.

The VCMAX.org website was designed to make “Spring Cleanup” projects EASY. Instead of going through the phone book, log on to www.vcmax.org and use the sidebar on the Home Page to link to information about local Thrift & Consignment stores, appliance recyclers, or to find out when the next free Household Hazardous Waste or Electronic Waste cleanup is scheduled in your community. The sidebar also links to the Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, a building materials thrift store in Oxnard which provides free pickup and Tax receipts for donated tools, building supplies, cabinets, sinks and household items. The Countywide Recycling Center Guide provides information about local Buy Back Centers and recycling businesses where you can recycle cardboard, magazines, paper, metal, and bottles and cans for CASH!

The goal of the VCMAX reuse program is the elimination of the disposal of items other people need or want. So before you toss it, ask yourself, “Could Someone Else Use This?” If the answer is YES, go to www.vcmax.org or call Pandee Leachman, at 805/658-4315, for more information. The VCMAX program is provided by the
County of Ventura’s Integrated Waste Management Division.
