On December 29, 2013, a Camarillo Patrol Deputy observed a pickup truck on Lewis Road in the area of Las Posas Road and attempted to conduct an enforcement stop for a traffic violation. As the deputy attempted to initiate the stop, the truck quickly turned into a residential neighborhood turning off its headlights and speeding away. The deputy caught up to the vehicle and initiated a pursuit. Moments later the vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Antonio Avenue and Las Posas Road and collided into a passing vehicle.

Suspect Murphy was immediately taken into custody. The driver and passenger, who were in the vehicle that was struck by Murphy’s vehicle, were treated at the scene by Ventura County Fire personnel and AMR paramedics. Both were later transported to St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital for evaluation and additional treatment. They both suffered minor visible injuries and complaints of pain.

Murphy was also treated for minor injuries and later booked into the Pre-Trial Detention Facility for one felony count of reckless/evading a police officer and one misdemeanor count of driving without a license. Murphy remains in custody on $50,000.00 bail.
