On 08/08/2009 at about 11:00 A.M., sheriff’s deputies assigned to the City of Moorpark were dispatched to the 14000 block of Avenida Colonia after Amtrak reported their eastbound Metrolink train had struck a person on the railroad tracks. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the body of Alfredo Aguilar, 70 years, approximately 300 yards west of Virginia Colony Place.

Family members were contacted and advised that Mr. Aguilar had left his residence to take a walk. How or why he was walking on the railroad tracks is unknown. Information received from the train conductor revealed that Mr. Aguilar had apparently fallen on the railroad tracks and was unable to rise in time to avoid being struck by the train.

Amtrak reported that their train #774 was traveling from Camarillo to Simi Valley at about 60 miles per hour with 190 passengers on board, at the time of the collision. There were no reported injuries to anyone on the train. The tracks were re-opened at about 2:05 P.M.

The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and took custody of the body.
