In the early morning hours of August 30, 2010, members from the Thousand Oaks Police Department and Ventura County Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 700 block of Calle Contento, in the City of Thousand Oaks. Upon their arrival, they discovered a fire that had fully engulfed a shed in the backyard of the residence. The shed was adjacent to the residence and was a complete loss. The home also suffered major damage as a result of the fire. Two people in the home were alerted to the fire by their small dog and were able to exit the home safely.

Upon further investigation by police and fire personnel on scene, it was determined that the shed was being used to grow marijuana. Fire investigators determined the origin of the fire to be an overloaded electrical circuit leading to the shed.
