This afternoon, a Camarillo traffic deputy was driving northbound on Carmen Drive when he saw a vehicle that had collided with a tree on the east side of the roadway. The deputy did not see the accident occur but came upon it moments after it happened. The location of the accident was northbound on Carmen Drive, north of Coe Street.

The deputy immediately stopped and assisted a citizen who was attempting to help the victim. Members of the Ventura County Fire Department arrived shortly thereafter and had to use the Jaws of Life to get the victim out of the vehicle. The victim was transported by ambulance to Saint John’s Regional Medical Center, in Oxnard. He went directly into surgery and is currently in critical condition.

As a result of the accident, the northbound lanes of Carmen Drive between Modesto Avenue and Edgemont Drive were closed for approximately 3 hours, while traffic was diverted around the area.

The cause of the collision has not yet been determined. Anyone who witnessed the accident, and who has not come forward, is asked to contact the Camarillo Police Department’s Traffic Bureau.
