On February 17, 2010, the Sheriff’s Department East County Narcotics Street Team, the Simi Valley Police Department’s Narcotics Unit, and the Ventura County District Attorney Office Bureau of Investigation concluded a three-month investigation of narcotics sales and money laundering. A search warrant was served at the suspect’s residence in Thousand Oaks, which resulted in the seizure of approximately $30,000 in US Currency and four firearms. David Macfarlane is suspected of laundering hundreds of thousands of dollars in profits he earned from an illegal marijuana dispensary he operated in Santa Barbara County.

Detectives with the Santa Barbara Police Department Narcotics Unit and Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit served a simultaneous search warrant at the marijuana dispensary owned and operated by Macfarlane called the “Santa Barbara Care Center.” Inside the business, investigators seized 84 marijuana plants, 8 pounds of marijuana, a loaded semi-automatic handgun, and a taser gun. Macfarlane was arrested in Ventura County for sales of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, money laundering, structuring cash deposits in financial institution, and conspiracy. He was subsequently booked into the Sheriff’s East County Jail with bail set at $250,000. Macfarlane will be arraigned in the Ventura County Superior Court on February 19, 2010 at 1:30pm.

Today’s search warrant in, Thousand Oaks, was completed in collaboration with a larger operation by the Santa Barbara Police Department and Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department, in which search warrants were served at four residences and four marijuana dispensaries in Santa Barbara County (including the Santa Barbara Care Center). A total of seven suspects were arrested in Santa Barbara County as a result of the investigation. In addition, more than 130 marijuana plants and 23 pounds of processed marijuana were seized.
