On July 25, 2011 at 0100 hours, Demario Beachum was booked into the Ventura County Sheriff’s East Valley Jail by the Simi Valley Police Department. Beachum was booked for 23152 (a) VC, driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and 23152(b) VC, driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level of .08 or greater.

At approximately 0745 hours, deputies entered the cell where Beachum was housed alone in order to release him from custody on a citation. Beachum, who had been served breakfast earlier in the morning and had been visually monitored during a series of routine cell checks, was found to be unresponsive and not breathing. Emergency aid was rendered by deputies on scene. Ventura County Fire personnel and AMR ambulance personnel were summoned and performed advanced life saving support. Beachum was pronounced dead at the jail shortly thereafter.

There is no foul play suspected and the Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
