A 48-year old inmate was found hanging in his cell at approximately 8:30 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Todd Road Jail Facility near Santa Paula. Deputies and jail medical personnel immediately initiated Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and were able to establish a pulse. The Fire Department and Paramedics arrived quickly at the jail and transported the inmate to Santa Paula Hospital where he was placed on life support. After consulting with doctors, Vizuete’s family ultimately agreed to remove him from life support today at approximately 9:50 A.M.

Deputies conduct frequent and regular checks of each cell in the jail; deputies had checked on the area housing Mr. Vizuete approximately 30 minutes prior to this incident and noted nothing unusual.

Vizuete was arrested and booked by the Oxnard Police Department for Disobeying a Domestic Relations Court Order and Failure to register as a Sex Offender on January 18, 2010.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit responded to the jail and is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the inmate’s death. The preliminary investigation indicates that foul play is not suspected.
