A former Moorpark resident was convicted Thursday for three counts of sexual assault involving the forcible rape of a developmentally disabled woman that occurred in 2007.
Sean Carroll was found guilty by a Ventura County jury of assault with intent to commit rape, penetration with a foreign object by force, and assault with a deadly weapon.
The assault occurred when Carroll picked up the 37-year-old victim to take her shopping. The two already knew each other, and she accepted Carroll’s offer for a shopping trip to look for shoes. Carroll instead drove the victim past the shopping center and continued to his residence in Moorpark, where he assaulted her.
Although the victim is an adult, she has the mental capacity of a person under the age of ten. Carroll was remanded once the verdict was read, and he is being held without bail at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura. Carroll’s sentencing is scheduled for Mar. 17, 2009 in Ventura Superior Court. He faces up to ten years and four months in state prison.
